The use of serum soluble interleukin 2 receptor (sIL-2R) for the diagnosis of febrile illnesses has not been examined. In this study, febrile patients were classified according to etiology and disease, and serum sIL-2R levels were evaluated. We determined whether serum sIL-2R is a useful marker for differentiating between malignant lymphoma (ML) and non-ML patients and between patients with ML and Kikuchi disease, which present similar clinical manifestations.

In Japan, nutritional guidance based on food-recording apps and food frequency questionnaires (FFQs) is becoming popular. However, it is not always recognized that different dietary assessment methods have different nutritional values. Here, we compared the compatibility of dietary intake data obtained from an app with those obtained from FFQs in 59 healthy individuals who recorded information regarding their diet for at least 7 days per month using an app developed by Asken (Tokyo, Japan).

Background: Subacute myelo-optico-neuropathy (SMON) is a neurological disorder associated with the administration of clioquinol, particularly at very high doses. Although clioquinol has been used worldwide, there was an outbreak of SMON in the 1950s-1970s in which the majority of cases were in Japan, prompting speculation that the unique genetic background of the Japanese population may have contributed to the development of SMON. Recently, a possible association between loss-of-function polymorphisms in NQO1 and the development of SMON has been reported.

ROS are involved in the pathogenesis of bullous pemphigoid (BP), but this involvement has not been fully elucidated. In this study, to further elucidate the pathogenic role of ROS in BP, we examined the results of the diacron-reactive oxygen metabolite test and the biological antioxidant potential test for 16 patients with BP who visited our hospital before being treated with systemic corticosteroids. In the patients with BP, the average diacron-reactive oxygen metabolite levels, expressed in Carratelli units, were significantly reduced at 1 month of treatment (from 335.

Malignant tumors metastasizing to the bladder are uncommon, and bladder metastasis from uterine cancer is particularly rare. Several cases of bladder metastasis from malignant melanoma, gastric cancer, breast cancer, and renal cancer have been documented. However, to our knowledge, only four cases of bladder metastasis from endometrial cancer had been reported up until 2024.

Introduction: Although ab-interno trabeculotomy-related (goniotomy-related) surgeries has a favorable safety profile, cyclodialysis cleft refractory to conservative management could occur, thereby requiring additional surgical treatment. External and, more recently, internal cycloplexy have been attempted to treat cyclodialysis clefts with hypotony maculopathy, however the traditional methods require conjunctival or scleral incisions and have been inappropriate for glaucoma patients who need to undergo future trabeculectomy. Therefore, we report two cases who underwent a novel reliable technique for suture fixation of the detached ciliary body onto the original scleral bed directly through the intraocular approach without conjunctival or scleral incision, minimally invasive direct internal cyclopexy, in the management of goniotomy-related cyclodialysis cleft with hypotony maculopathy.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) and panic disorder (PD) are prevalent anxiety disorders characterized by a complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors. Both disorders share overlapping features and often coexist, despite displaying distinct characteristics. Childhood life adversity, overall stressful life events, and genetic factors contribute to the development of these disorders.

Evidence is accumulating that osteal macrophages, in addition to bone-resorbing osteoclasts and bone-forming osteoblasts, participate vitally in bone remodeling process. Oncostatin M (OSM), an inflammatory cytokine belonging to interleukin-6 superfamily, is recognized as an essential factor secreted by osteal macrophages to orchestrate bone remodeling. Osteoprotegerin (OPG) produced by osteoblasts regulates osteoclastogenesis.

Background: To examine whether the "Effectiveness of Guideline for Dissemination and Education in psychiatric treatment (EGIUDE)" project affects the rate of prescriptions of hypnotic medication and the type of hypnotic medications prescribed among psychiatrists, for schizophrenia and major depressive disorder in Japan.
Methods: The EGUIDE project is a nationwide prospective study of evidence-based clinical guidelines for schizophrenia and major depressive disorder in Japan. From 2016 to 2021, clinical and prescribing data from patients discharged from hospitals participating in the EGUIDE project were used to examine hypnotic medication prescriptions The prescribing rate of hypnotics and the prescribing rate of each type of hypnotic (benzodiazepine receptor agonist, nonbenzodiazepine receptor agonist, melatonin receptor agonist, and orexin receptor antagonist) were compared among patients who had been prescribed medication by psychiatrists participating in the EGUIDE project and patients who had been prescribed medication by nonparticipating psychiatrists.

Accurate diagnosis of the localization of prostate cancer (PCa) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) remains a challenge. We aimed to assess discrepancy between the location of PCa pathologically diagnosed using surgical specimens and lesions indicated as possible PCa by the Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System on MRI. The primary endpoint was the concordance rate between the site of probable clinically significant PCa (csPCa) identified using biparametric MRI (bpMRI) and location of PCa in the surgical specimen obtained using robot-assisted total prostatectomy.

Background: Yokukansan, a traditional Japanese medicine (Kampo), has been widely used to treat neurosis, dementia, and chronic pain. Previous in vitro studies have suggested that Yokukansan acts as a partial agonist of the 5-HT receptor, resulting in amelioration of chronic pain through inhibition of nociceptive neuronal activity. However, its effectiveness for treating postoperative pain remains unknown, although its analgesic mechanism of action has been suggested to involve serotonin and glutamatergic neurotransmission.
