An enlargement of multiple asymptomatic pelvic masses was detected during a regular checkup of a 39-year-old woman. Twelve years earlier, she had undergone laparoscopic-assisted myomectomy, at which time an uncontained manual extraction of a posterior intramural myoma was performed. This was followed by 2 uneventful cesarean deliveries after spontaneous conceptions.

Background And Aim: Endoscopic reintervention for stent occlusions following bilateral self-expandable metallic stent (SEMS) placement for malignant hilar biliary obstruction (MHBO) is challenging, and time to recurrent biliary obstruction (RBO) of the revisionary stent remains unclear. We aimed to clarify a suitable reintervention method for stent occlusions following bilateral SEMS placement for MHBO.
Methods: Between 2002 and 2014, 52 consecutive patients with MHBO who underwent endoscopic reintervention for stent occlusion after bilateral SEMS placement were enrolled at two university hospitals and one tertiary care referral center.

Background/aims: Self-expandable metallic stent (SEMS) placement is effective for dysphagia that results from malignant obstruction of the esophagus or gastric cardia; however, stent-related complications may be life-threatening. Thus, the goal of this study was to identify risk factors associated with complications following esophageal stenting.
Methods: Of the 71 patients who underwent SEMS placement for dysphagia as a result of malignant stricture of the esophagus or gastric cardia, 53 patients with squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma, without previous SEMS placement, without a fistula, and without recurrent tumor after surgery were retrospectively identified.

We investigated the optical properties of a near-infrared (NIR) fluorochrome, di-β-cyclodextrin-binding indocyanine derivative (TK-1), and its pharmacokinetic differences with indocyanine green (ICG). TK-1 was designed to have hydrophilic cyclodextrin molecules and, thus, for higher water solubility and smaller particle sizes than the plasma protein-bound ICG. We compared optical properties such as the absorption and fluorescence spectra, quantum yield, and photostability between both dyes in vitro.

Pulmonary thromboembolism is a potentially life-threatening disorder, which can occur secondary to deep vein thrombosis. Ovarian vein thrombosis has classically been considered to be a postpartum complication and is less frequently associated with other disease processes, such as recent pelvic surgery. Herein, we report a case of pulmonary thromboembolism as a result of ovarian vein thrombosis in a 39-year-old woman after an uneventful laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy for uterine myoma.
