In this study, we evaluated the pollution history by metals over the twentieth century in an urban reservoir (Garças Reservoir, Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, Southeast Brazil) by the paleolimnological approach. The concentrations of eight metals (Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn) were determined in a Pb-dated sediment core (~ 100 years of information). Metal's enrichment and pollution degree were assessed using the Consensus-Based Sediment Quality Guidelines (CBSQG), enrichment factor (EF), Geoaccumulation Index (I), and Potential Ecological Risk Index (RI).

This study aims to determine the exposure to soluble tattoo ink ingredients and their excretion within 24 h after tattooing. In this clinical study, 24 subjects were tattooed with black or red tattoo ink to which the 3 tracer substances, potassium iodide, 4-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and 2-phenoxyethanol (PEtOH), had been added to mimic known substances found in tattoo inks.

Multimetallic half-sandwich complexes of the paramagnetic lanthanides gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, and erbium as well as of diamagnetic yttrium are readily accessible via AlMe/halogenido exchange reactions of Cp*Ln(AlMe) with the mild halogenido transfer reagents MeSiI and MeGeX (Cp* = CMe; X = Br, Cl). Depending on the rare-earth-metal center and halogenido ion size, complexes with distinct structural motifs and nuclearities are obtained, including dimeric compounds [Cp*Ln(AlMe)(μ-Cl)] for the smaller metal centers Ln = Ho, Er, iodido-bridged tetranuclear rings [Cp*Ln(μ-I)] (Ln = Y, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er), and a heterobimetallic tetramethylaluminato-bridged gadolinium cluster [Cp*GdI(AlMe)]. The tetranuclear dysprosium complex [Cp*Dy(μ-I)] shows single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior in zero applied field with an effective energy barrier of 164(10) cm.

Mutations occurring in the MeCp2, CDKL5 and BDNF genes have been linked to epileptogenesis in various epilepsy syndromes. This study employed bioinformatics analysis of transcriptomic data to examine the interrelationship among these genes in both epileptic and healthy individuals. The potential of the two-dimensional ruthenium carbide (RuC) nanosheet to detect highly toxic environmental compounds - namely, Furan (Fur) and 1,n-Dioxane (1,n-Diox) - was investigated utilizing the density functional theory (DFT) approach. The adsorption features of the Fur and 1,n-Diox molecules on the RuC nanosheet were evaluated in parallel and vertical configurations. From energetic manifestations, Fur and 1,n-Diox molecules preferred to be adsorbed in the parallel configuration rather than the vertical one on the RuC nanosheet with negative E values of -27.

A silver-catalyzed decarboxylative coupling of oxamic acids with styrenes has been developed to produce E-cinnamamides. Oxamic acids act as efficient precursors for carbamoy radicals. Based on the mechanistic experiments and intermediate analysis, the proposed mechanism involves radical addition to styrenes, followed by oxidation and solvent participation, ultimately leading to the formation of cinnamamides which is different from the reported cases.
