Introduction: The concept of privacy marks an astonishing gap in the discussion about care for people with dementia (PwD). In general, questions of privacy play an important role and attract much attention in the ethics of nursing care. Yet, when it comes to dementia care, there is hardly any systematic ethical debate on the topic at all.

Despite significant advances in its management, AF remains a major healthcare burden affecting millions of individuals. Rhythm control with antiarrhythmic drugs or catheter ablation has been shown to improve symptoms and outcomes in AF patients, but current treatment options have limited efficacy and/or significant side-effects. Novel mechanism-based approaches could potentially be more effective, enabling improved therapeutic strategies for managing AF.

Objectives: Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination has off-target effects on disease risk for unrelated infections and immune responses to vaccines. This study aimed to determine the immunomodulatory effects of BCG vaccination on immune responses to vaccines against SARS-CoV-2.
Methods: Blood samples, from a subset of 275 SARS-CoV-2-naïve healthcare workers randomised to BCG vaccination (BCG group) or no BCG vaccination (Control group) in the BRACE trial, were collected before and 28 days after the primary course (two doses) of ChAdOx1-S (Oxford-AstraZeneca) or BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech) vaccination.

Introduction: Marie-Unna hereditary hypotrichosis (MUHH) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by a specific pattern of hair loss. Initially described in 1925 by Marie-Unna in a German family spanning over seven generations, MUHH represents a previously unidentified form of congenital hypotrichosis. It typically presents as sparse hair at birth with a coarse texture, followed by regrowth during childhood then, finally, gradual hair loss at puberty, resembling pattern of androgenetic alopecia.

Introduction: The growth of evergreen fruit trees is influenced by the interaction of soil nitrogen (N) and leaf amino acid contents. However, information on free amino acid contents in leaves of fruiting and non-fruiting branches during long-term N fertilizer application remains scarce.
Methods: Here, a four-year field experiment (2018-2021) in a citrus orchard revealed consistently lower total N and amino acid contents in leaves of fruiting compared to non-fruiting branches.

Childhood leukemia accounts for 30% of all pediatric cancer cases with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) being the most common subtype. Involvement of the gut microbiome in ALL development has recently garnered interest due to an increasing recognition of the key contribution the microbiome plays in maintaining the immune system's homeostatic balance. Commensal gut microbiota provide a first line of defense against different pathogens and gut microbiome immaturity has been implicated in ALL pathogenesis.

The mechanisms that regulate minor and trace element biomineralization in the echinoid skeleton can be primarily controlled biologically (, by the organism and its vital effects) or by extrinsic environmental factors. Assessing the relative role of those controls is essential for understanding echinoid biomineralization, taphonomy, diagenesis, and their potential as geochemical archives. In this study, we (1) contrast geochemical signatures of specimens collected across multiple taxa and environmental settings to assess the effects of environmental and physiological factors on skeletal biomineralogy; and (2) analyze the nanomechanical properties of the echinoid skeleton to assess potential linkages between magnesium/calcium (Mg/Ca) ratios and skeletal nanohardness.

Background: The specialist palliative home service (SAPV) federal framework contract for adults, to be enacted in Germany until 2028, does not legally mandate the hiring of a third professional group beyond specialist nurses and physicians, although palliative care embraces the psychosocial dimension and an interprofessional approach.
Objectives: This article aims to explore the role of medical staff in integrating social work (SW) into SAPV.
Design: Qualitative case study.

Every person with diabetes is affected by changes in the environment and climate. At the same time, the therapy of many people itself has a negative impact on these factors. One might assume that the relevant professional associations and health organizations, as well as health policymakers, have initiated appropriate activities.

Zinc nitride (ZnN) comprises earth-abundant elements, possesses a small direct bandgap, and is characterized by high electron mobility. While these characteristics make the material a promising compound semiconductor for various optoelectronic applications, including photovoltaics and thin-film transistors, it commonly exhibits unintentional degenerate n-type conductivity. This degenerate character has significantly impeded the development of ZnN for technological applications and is commonly assumed to arise from incorporation of oxygen impurities.

Conservation agriculture, which involves minimal soil disturbance, permanent soil cover, and crop rotation, has been widely adopted as a sustainable agricultural practice globally. However, the effects of conservation agriculture practices on soil NO emissions and crop yield vary based on geography, management methods, and the duration of implementation, which has hindered its widespread scientific application. In this study, we assessed the impacts of no-tillage (NT), both individually and in combination with other conservation agriculture principles, on soil NO emissions and crop yields worldwide, based on 1270 observations from 86 peer-reviewed articles.

Engineered living materials (ELMs) made of bacteria in hydrogels have shown considerable promise for therapeutic applications through controlled and sustained release of complex biopharmaceuticals at low costs and with reduced wastage. While most therapeutic ELMs use E. coli due to its large genetic toolbox, most live biotherapeutic bacteria in development are lactic acid bacteria due to native health benefits they offer.

Many animals communicate using call and response signals, but the evolutionary origins of this type of communication are largely unknown. In most cricket species, males sing and females walk or fly to calling males. In the tribe Lebinthini, however, males produce calls that trigger a vibrational reply from females, and males use the substrate vibrations to find the responding female.

Background: Psychosocial screening is a valuable part of the assessment of patients with orofacial pain, as psychosocial factors will affect prognosis and treatment outcomes. Paper-based questionnaires are predominately used to assess the degree of psychosocial comorbidity; however, digital alternatives for screening questionnaires may be more cost-effective and resource-saving if patients are receptive to using them.
Objective: To evaluate how patients perceive digital psychosocial screening in dentistry.

Field-induced microstructure evolution can play an important role in defining the coupled magneto-mechanical response of Magneto-Active Elastomers (MAEs). The behavior of these materials is classically modeled using mechanical, magnetic and coupled magneto-mechanical contributions to their free energy function. If the MAE sample is fully clamped so it cannot deform, the mechanical coupling is reduced to the internal microscopic deformations caused by the particles moving and deforming the elastic medium that surrounds them.
