The performance of Cu-exchanged chabazite (Cu-CHA) for the ammonia-assisted selective catalytic reduction of NO (NH-SCR) depends critically on the presence of paired complexes. Here, a machine-learning force field augmented with long-range Coulomb interactions is developed to investigate the effect of Al-distribution and Cu-loading on the mobility and pairing of complexes. Performing unbiased and constrained molecular dynamics simulations, we obtain unique information inaccessible to first-principle calculations and experiments.

Using an inferior decoy alternative to nudge COVID-19 vaccination.

Sci Rep

January 2025

NIHR Policy Research Unit in Behavioural and Social Sciences - Behavioural Science Group, Warwick Business School, University of Warwick, Scarman Rd, Coventry, CV4 7AL, UK.

Optimizing vaccine uptake is a public health challenge that requires the implementation of effective strategies. The asymmetric dominance (or decoy) effect describes the increasing likelihood of selecting an option when a clearly inferior alternative is offered. Therefore, we aimed to test the impact of offering decoy alternatives-less convenient vaccination appointments-on vaccination intentions.

Evolution of Omicron lineage towards increased fitness in the upper respiratory tract in the absence of severe lung pathology.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Laboratory of Virology, Division of Intramural Research, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health, Hamilton, MT, USA.

The emergence of the Omicron lineage represented a major genetic drift in SARS-CoV-2 evolution. This was associated with phenotypic changes including evasion of pre-existing immunity and decreased disease severity. Continuous evolution within the Omicron lineage raised concerns of potential increased transmissibility and/or disease severity.

Vessel-generated waves and currents significantly impact coastal and estuarine waterways. In-situ measurements record all relevant physical phenomena that occur under a wide range of conditions and are therefore a valuable resource in the investigation of ship waves. Here we present a comprehensive compound dataset from in-situ ship wave measurement campaigns conducted over several decades in German coastal waterways.

Plate tectonics predicts that mountain ranges form by tectono-magmatic processes at plate boundaries, but high topography is often observed along passive margins far from any plate boundary. The high topography of the Scandes range at the Atlantic coast of Fennoscandia is traditionally assumed isostatically supported by variation in crustal density and thickness. Here we demonstrate, by our Silverroad seismic profile, that the constantly ~44 km thick crust instead is homogenous above the Moho, and Pn-velocity abruptly change from 7.

This paper addresses a non-interacting torque control strategy to decouple the d- and q-axis dynamics of a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM). The maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) method is used to determine the reference currents for the desired torque. To realize the noninteracting control, knowledge concerning the inductances L and L of the electrical machine is necessary.

Axial spondyloarthritis manifests as a chronic inflammatory disease primarily affecting the sacroiliac joints and spine. Although chronic back pain and spinal stiffness are typical initial symptoms, peripheral (ie, enthesitis, arthritis, and dactylitis) and extra-musculoskeletal (ie, uveitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and psoriasis) manifestations are also common. Timely and accurate diagnosis is challenging and relies on identifying a clinical pattern with a combination of clinical, laboratory (HLA-B27 positivity), and imaging findings (eg, structural damage on pelvic radiographs and bone marrow oedema on MRI of the sacroiliac joints).

Establishing In-vivo brain microdialysis for comparing concentrations of a variety of cortical neurotransmitters in the awake rhesus macaque between different cognitive states.

J Neurosci Methods

January 2025

Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory, German Primate Center - Leibniz Institute for Primate Research, Goettingen, Germany; Faculty of Biology and Psychology, University of Goettingen, 37077 Goettingen, Germany.

Background: Neuronal activity is modulated by behavior and cognitive processes. The combination of several neurotransmitter systems, acting directly or indirectly on specific populations of neurons, underlie such modulations. Most studies with non-human primates (NHPs) fail to capture this complexity, partly due to the lack of adequate methods for reliably and simultaneously measuring a broad spectrum of neurotransmitters while the animal engages in behavioral tasks.
