Glycolipids are known to stabilize biomembrane multilayers through preferential sugar-sugar interactions that act as weak transient membrane cross-links. Here, we use small-angle and quasi-elastic neutron scattering on oligolamellar phospholipid vesicles containing defined glycolipid fractions in order to elucidate the influence of glycolipids on membrane mechanics and dynamics. Small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) reveals that the oligolamellar vesicles (OLVs) obtained by extrusion are polydisperse with regard to the number of lamellae, , which renders the interpretation of the quasi-elastic neutron spin echo (NSE) data nontrivial.

Research into novel two-dimensional (2D) materials has boomed over the past decade, with a bewildering diversity of distinct properties being discovered. In this work, layered PtSe, grown by chemical vapor deposition and thermally converted to non-layered tetragonal PtSe, is experimentally and theoretically investigated. Notably, the resultant PtSe is distinctly metallic, which highlights the significance of sub-stoichiometric phases within transition metal dichalcogenide films.

Gluconeogenesis, the reciprocal pathway of glycolysis, is an energy-consuming process that generates glycolytic intermediates from non-carbohydrate sources. In this study, we demonstrate that robust and efficient gluconeogenesis in bacteria relies on the allosteric inactivation of pyruvate kinase, the enzyme responsible for the irreversible final step of glycolysis. Using the model bacterium as an example, we discovered that pyruvate kinase activity is inhibited during gluconeogenesis via its extra C-terminal domain (ECTD), which is essential for autoinhibition and metabolic regulation.

Fifteen elite male athletes performed maximal effort push starts, while ground reaction forces (GRF) and 3D marker trajectories were simultaneously recorded for ground contacts of different sub-sections of the push phase (start acceleration phase: first and second ground contact after the initial push-off from the start block, acceleration phase: 10 m and high-velocity phase: 30 m). To obtain a comprehensive view of the push phase, whole-body kinematics as well as joint kinetics were analysed and compared across the push phase.

Nonadiabatic coupling between electrons and molecular motion at metal surfaces leads to energy dissipation and dynamic steering effects during chemical surface dynamics. We present a theoretical approach to the scattering of molecules from metal surfaces that incorporates all nonadiabatic and quantum nuclear effects due to the coupling of the molecular degrees of freedom to the electrons in the metal.
