Introduction: Early increases in muscle strength following unilateral resistance training are typically accompanied by strength gains in the contralateral untrained muscles, a phenomenon known as cross-education. However, the specific motor unit adaptations responsible for this gain transfer remain poorly understood. To address this gap, we recorded myoelectrical activity from the biceps brachii using high-density electromyography.

Racism in German healthcare: uncovering the construction and silencing of the "other".

While the impact of racism on healthcare interactions has been researched extensively in many parts of the world, substantive studies on healthcare-related racism in Europe, and particularly in Germany, remain scarce. This paper builds on a study that applies Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) and aims to explore healthcare users' experiences of racism within German healthcare. Community members were trained as peer researchers and given support as they conducted a total of six focus group discussions that involved a total of 14 study participants: these participants were organized into two subsamples of seven participants each (subsample one: Black, African, Afro-diasporic healthcare users; subsample two: healthcare users perceived or self-describing as Muslim), and each subsample had three focus group discussions.

Chemical weathering processes play a key role in regulating the global climate over geological time scales. Lithium (Li) isotope compositions have proven to be a robust proxy for tracing weathering processes that produce secondary minerals, such as clays and oxides, with a focus often placed on Li adsorption to, or incorporation into, clay minerals. In addition, the interaction between Li and Fe-oxides has long been assumed and discussed based on field observations, but experimental constraints on this process are lacking.

Background: Surveillance systems for diseases serve as an early warning system and orientation for decision-makers. As part of the National Diabetes Surveillance at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), existing formats of information transfer were evaluated and an analysis of users' requirements regarding the dissemination of results of surveillance for non-communicable diseases (NCD) was carried out.

Methods: 13 semi-structured guided interviews were conducted with persons from health politics, healthcare, media and science and analysed in a qualitative content analysis (interview survey period: 10/2022 - 01/2023).

Towards a European health information system: The BRIDGE Health, InfAct and PHIRI projects.

Background: National health systems in Europe are facing similar challenges - demographic change, a rising burden of disease due to chronic non-communicable diseases, and health inequalities. Comparable health data and knowledge sharing between countries are therefore an important basis for policy decision-making. Noise-induced hearing loss is one of the most common forms of hearing loss in adults and also one of the most common occupational diseases. Extensive previous work has shown that the highly sensitive synapses of the inner hair cells (IHCs) may be the first target for irreparable damage and permanent loss in the noise-exposed cochlea, more precisely in the cochlear base. However, how such synaptic loss affects the synaptic physiology of the IHCs in this particularly vulnerable part of the cochlea has not yet been investigated.

Cactus-like Metamaterial Structures for Electromagnetically Induced Transparency at THz frequencies.

THz metamaterials present unique opportunities for next-generation technologies and applications as they can fill the "THz gap" originating from the weak response of natural materials in this regime, providing a variety of novel or advanced electromagnetic wave control components and systems.
