Adsorption-based processes are showing substantial potential for carbon capture. Due to the vast space of potential solid adsorbents and their influence on the process performance, the choice of the material is not trivial but requires systematic approaches. In particular, the material choice should be based on the performance of the resulting process.

The discovery of unconventional superconductivity often triggers significant interest in associated electronic and structural symmetry breaking phenomena. For the infinite-layer nickelates, structural allotropes are investigated intensively. Here, using high-energy grazing-incidence x-ray diffraction, we demonstrate how in-situ temperature annealing of the infinite-layer nickelate PrNiO ( ≈ 0) induces a giant superlattice structure.

Indication for this hemi-wedge high tibial osteotomy is the combination of medial osteoarthritis or cartilage damage, varus deformity of >10°, and medial proximal tibial angle of <80°. The proximal lateral tibia is exposed via a skin incision of approximately 10 cm length between the tibial tuberosity and the head of the fibula. After detachment of the anterior tibial muscle, a first oblique guidewire marks the main osteotomy plane and a second guidewire marks the hemi-wedge.

Objective: The concept of proportionate and disproportionate functional mitral regurgitation suggests that transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral repair may benefit patients with a smaller left ventricle relative to a higher regurgitant burden. The clinical relevance of proportionality remains unknown in mitral operations for ischemic mitral regurgitation. We aimed to characterize the association between mitral regurgitation proportionality and outcomes after mitral valve operations.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the association between interatrial conduction block and postoperative atrial fibrillation, which can precipitate acute cardiopulmonary instability and is associated with subsequent heart failure, stroke, and mortality following cardiac surgery.
Methods: Perioperative 12-channel electrocardiograms from 3405 patients undergoing myocardial revascularization, valve surgery, aortic surgery, or combinations thereof, were considered. Clinical and electrographic parameters were compared between patients with and without atrial fibrillation, and significant variables were analyzed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression.

Objectives: There is an ongoing debate whether percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is the better choice for treatment of left main (LM) stenosis. We aimed to provide external validation for the recently reviewed guideline recommendations for invasive LM therapy by evaluating the impact of CABG or PCI on long-term survival from local reports of different regions in the world. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to address contemporary registry studies comparing PCI and CABG for patients with LM stenosis.

Background: This study aimed to explore the potential of the Advanced Data Analytics (ADA) package of GPT-4 to autonomously develop machine learning models (MLMs) for predicting glioma molecular types using radiomics from MRI.
Methods: Radiomic features were extracted from preoperative MRI of = 615 newly diagnosed glioma patients to predict glioma molecular types (IDH-wildtype vs IDH-mutant 1p19q-codeleted vs IDH-mutant 1p19q-non-codeleted) with a multiclass ML approach. Specifically, ADA was used to autonomously develop an ML pipeline and benchmark performance against an established handcrafted model using various MRI normalization methods (N4, Zscore, and WhiteStripe).

Therapeutic proteins are commonly conjugated with polymers to modulate their pharmacokinetics but often lack a description of the polymer-protein interaction. We deployed limited proteolysis mass spectrometry (LiP-MS) to reveal the interaction of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and PEG alternative polymers with interferon-α2a (IFN). Target conjugates were digested with the specific protease trypsin and a "heavy" 15N-IFN wild type (IFN-WT) for time-resolved quantification of the cleavage dynamics.

The stability of perovskite quantum dot solar cells is one of the key challenges of this technology. This study reveals the unique degradation behavior of cesium lead triiodide (CsPbI) quantum dot solar cells. For the first time, it is shown that the oxygen-induced degradation and performance loss of CsPbI quantum dot photovoltaic devices can be reversed by exposing the degraded samples to humidity, allowing the performance to recover and even surpass the initial performance.

Methods for predicting Henry's law constants describing the solubility of solutes in solvents as a function of temperature are essential in chemical engineering. While isothermal properties of binary mixtures can conveniently be predicted with matrix completion methods (MCMs) from machine learning, we advance their application to the temperature-dependent prediction of in the present work by combining them with physical equations describing the temperature dependence. For training the methods, experimental data for 122 solutes and 399 solvents ranging from 173.

Diffusion generative models, a class of machine learning techniques, have shown remarkable promise in materials science and chemistry by enabling the precise generation of complex molecular structures. In this article, we propose a novel application of diffusion generative models for stabilizing reactive molecular structures identified through quantum mechanical screening. Specifically, we focus on the design challenge presented by singlet fission (SF), a phenomenon crucial for advancing solar cell efficiency beyond theoretical limits.

Adaptation to climate change is a social-ecological process: it is not solely a result of natural processes or human decisions but emerges from multiple relations within social systems, within ecological systems and between them. We propose a novel analytical framework to evaluate social-ecological relations in nature-based adaptation, encompassing social (people-people), ecological (nature-nature) and social-ecological (people-nature) relations. Applying this framework to 25 case studies, we analyse the associations among these relations and identify archetypes of social-ecological adaptation.

Background: The concept of "skin quality" (SQ) has gained widespread attention, with a recent international consensus defining it and outlining four "emergent perceptual categories" (EPCs), each accompanied by specific parameters and associated measurement methods. No research has confirmed whether the parameters linked to these EPCs vary objectively with age. This gap in data is significant, as understanding how these parameters correlate with age could be essential for creating an objective, age-adjusted classification of SQ.
