Graves' disease (GD) is characterized by the production of autoantibodies against the TSHR (TRAbs). With long-term treatment, serum concentrations of TRAbs decline but in some patients, despite being clinically stable, TRAbs persist for many years. To investigate whether GD patients with persistence of TRAbs constitute a subset of patients that could be identified by phenotypic analysis of circulating lymphocytes, suggesting disease heterogeneity.

: Different EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are currently approved for the first-line treatment of NSCLC patients with EGFR mutations. Dacomitinib is an orally administered, second-generation pan-HER inhibitor that has shown to improve PFS and OS compared to the first-generation TKI gefitinib and is the most recent inhibitor to be approved in this setting. : This article will review relevant literature regarding preclinical findings and clinical data from phase I-III trials of dacomitinib.

Introduction: The ROS1 gene rearrangement has become an important biomarker in NSCLC. The College of American Pathologists/International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer/Association for Molecular Pathology testing guidelines support the use of ROS1 immunohistochemistry (IHC) as a screening test, followed by confirmation with fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) or a molecular test in all positive results. We have evaluated a novel anti-ROS1 IHC antibody (SP384) in a large multicenter series to obtain real-world data.

Influenza is often misdiagnosed in children because of the low sensitivity of clinical diagnosis because of nonspecific signs and symptoms. This can be overcome by using digital immunoassays or rapid molecular diagnostic tests with adequate sensitivity and specificity. When using these tests at the patient care site, antibiotic consumption and number of healthcare consultations were reduced.

The administration of autologous tolerogenic dendritic cells (tolDC) has become a promising alternative for the treatment of autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis (MS). Specifically, the use of vitamin D3 for the generation of tolDC (vitD3-tolDC) constitutes one of the most widely studied approaches, as it has evidenced significant immune regulatory properties, both and . In this article, we generated human vitD3-tolDC from monocytes from healthy donors and MS patients, characterized in both cases by a semi-mature phenotype, secretion of IL-10 and inhibition of allogeneic lymphocyte proliferation.

Introduction: Bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have an important impact on reproductive health, highlighting the increase in Chlamydia trachomatis infection rates among young people. To reduce the costs of STI detection, the pooling strategy is beneficial for high-throughput tests in low-prevalence populations using non-invasive samples.
Objectives: (1) To describe the performance of a 7-STI PCR assay using the pooling of three urine samples to detect C.

Darunavir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide (D/C/F/TAF) 800/150/200/10 mg was investigated through 96 weeks in EMERALD (NCT02269917). Virologically-suppressed, HIV-1-positive treatment-experienced adults (previous non-darunavir virologic failure [VF] allowed) were randomized (2:1) to D/C/F/TAF or boosted protease inhibitor (PI) plus emtricitabine/tenofovir-disoproxil-fumarate (F/TDF) over 48 weeks. At week 52 participants in the boosted PI arm were offered switch to D/C/F/TAF (late-switch, 44 weeks D/C/F/TAF exposure).

Mesenchymal stem or stromal cells (MSC) have proven immunomodulatory properties toward B cell activation and induce regulatory B cells (Breg), through a dual mechanism of action that relies both on cell contact and secreted factors. One of them are MSC-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs), membrane nanovesicles that mediate cell communication and typically reflect the phenotype of the cell of origin. MSC-EVs could resemble MSC functions, and are being contemplated as an improved alternative to the MSC-based immunomodulatory therapy.

Background: This study is aimed at describing the prevalence of and risk factors associated with early post-operative complications after Crohn's disease-related intestinal resection.
Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of data from the PRACTICROHN cohort. Adult Crohn's disease patients who underwent ileocolonic resection with ileocolonic anastomosis between January 2007 and December 2010 were included.
Heart failure (HF) is a growing challenge in the Asia Pacific region. N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is a well-established tool for diagnosis of HF; however, it is relatively underutilized in predicting adverse outcomes in HF. Multiple studies have demonstrated the prognostic role of NT-proBNP in HF.

Background and Purpose- Risk factor control and treatment compliance in the following months after stroke are poor. We aim to validate a digital platform for smartphones to raise awareness among patients about the need to adopt healthy lifestyle, improve communication with medical staff, and treatment compliance. Methods- Farmalarm is an application (app) for smartphones designed to increase stroke awareness by medication alerts and compliance control, chat communication with medical staff, didactic video files, exercise monitoring.

With the Relationship Questionnaire, 160 men were classified as securely attached and 240 as insecurely attached (88 dismissive, 79 preoccupied, and 73 fearful). Insecurely attached GBM had more condomless sex ( = 0.

Background: Proper risk stratification of patients for early mortality after cancer-associated thrombosis may lead to personalized anticoagulation protocols. Therefore, we aimed to derive and validate a scoring system to predict early mortality in this population. To this end, we selected patients with active cancer and thrombosis from the Computerized Registry of Patients with Venous Thromboembolism database.

Background: Biological variation (BV) data can be used to set analytical performance specifications (APS) for lipid assays. Poor performance will impact upon the efficacy of international guidelines for cardiovascular risk assessment (CVR) and relevant clinical decision limits. This systematic review applies the Biological Variation Data Critical Appraisal Checklist (BIVAC) to published studies of BV of CVR biomarkers enabling metanalysis of the data.

Aim: Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) is one of the most promising therapies for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients since it has shown immunomodulatory and neuroprotective effects. However, a percentage of RRMS patients do not exhibit an optimal response to DMF. The objective of this study was to identify early biomarkers of treatment response by analyzing changes in peripheral leukocyte subpopulations directly in whole blood samples.

Purpose: Oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) malpractice risk is of special interest due to both the aesthetic component of some procedures and the complexity of the pathologies involved. This study aims to identify relevant factors involved in OMS professional liability (PL) claims to help achive better management of risks and improve patient safety.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 315 OMS claims opened between 1990 and 2014 from the database of the PL Department of the Catalonian Council of Medical Colleges, and identified their clinical, economical and juridical characteristics.

Background And Purpose: Predicting motor outcome following intracerebral hemorrhage is challenging. We tested whether the combination of clinical scores and DTI-based assessment of corticospinal tract damage within the first 12 hours of symptom onset after intracerebral hemorrhage predicts motor outcome at 3 months.
Materials And Methods: We prospectively studied patients with motor deficits secondary to primary intracerebral hemorrhage within the first 12 hours of symptom onset.
