Gasotransmitters play crucial roles in regulating many physiological processes, including cell signaling, cellular proliferation, angiogenesis, mitochondrial function, antioxidant production, nervous system functions and immune responses. Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is the most recently identified gasotransmitter, which is characterized by its biphasic behavior. At low concentrations, HS promotes cellular bioenergetics, whereas at high concentrations, it can exert cytotoxic effects.

Recently, our research group reported an upregulated expression profile of cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE) and cystathionine β-synthase (CBS), key enzymes involved in hydrogen sulfide (HS) production, in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients. However, the regulatory mechanisms underlying such altered expression patterns are not yet fully understood. In this study, we focused on the role of the STAT3/CSE/HS axis and the potential involvement of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), including long and short ncRNAs, in modulating this pivotal pathway.

Transdermal drug delivery systems are a promising option for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) because they can lower systemic adverse effects of immunosuppressants. Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors were found to be effective for the treatment of RA by inhibiting the JAK-STAT pathway and preventing autoimmune joint destruction. The aim of this study is to deliver tofacitinib (a JAK 1 and 3 inhibitor) through mannose-decorated transferosomes (MDTs) directly to inflamed joints.

ZnAlO and CuAlO spinel nanoparticles were prepared by a modified Pechini method and used with the natural chitosan (CS) and shellac (SH) polymers to form novel composite membranes as promising food packaging materials. The selection of ZnAlO and CuAlOspinel nanoparticles was based on their antibacterial characteristics, availability, and economy. Using a straightforward and adaptable solution mixing and casting method, the bio-composites were created.

Background: Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) plays a pivotal role in follicular growth and atresia. Recent studies highlighted the role of AMH in attenuating granulosa cell apoptosis and subsequent follicular atresia. Background: Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is a significant endogenous mediator that has been implicated in the progression of various forms of cancer including breast cancer (BC). Cystathionine-β-synthase (CBS), cystathionine-γ-lyase (CSE), and 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (3MST) are the three principal mammalian enzymes responsible for HS production. Overexpression of CBS, CSE and 3MST was found to be associated with poor prognosis of BC patients.

Evidence suggests that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a pivotal role in the carcinogenesis and progression of various human malignancies including gastrointestinal malignancies. This comprehensive review reports the functions and mechanisms of the lncRNA maternally expressed gene 3 (MEG3) involved in gastrointestinal malignancies. It summarizes its roles in mediating the regulation of cellular proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasiveness, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, and drug resistance in several gastrointestinal cancers such as colorectal cancer, gall bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, gastric cancer, esophageal cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumors and most importantly, hepatocellular carcinoma.

The concept of 'Hallmarks of Cancer' is an approach of reducing the enormous complexity of cancer to a set of guiding principles. As the underlying mechanism of cancer are portrayed, we find that we gain insight and additional aspects of the disease arise.
