The aim of the study was to explore the metabolic characteristics and outcome parameters in youth with type 1 diabetes and anxiety disorders. HbA1c levels, rates of severe hypoglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), and hospital admission in children, adolescents, and young adults with type 1 diabetes and an anxiety disorder from 431 diabetes-care-centers participating in the nationwide German/Austrian/Swiss/Luxembourgian diabetes survey DPV were analyzed and compared with youth without anxiety disorders. Children, adolescents, and young adults with type 1 diabetes and anxiety disorders (n = 1325) had significantly higher HbA1c (8.

Background And Purpose: Accurate and rapid assessment of coagulation status is necessary to guide thrombolysis or reversal of anticoagulation in stroke patients, but commercially available point-of-care (POC) assays are not suited for coagulation testing in patients treated with direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs). We aimed to evaluate the direct thrombin monitoring (DTM) test card by Helena Laboratories (Texas, United States) for anti-IIa-specific POC coagulation testing, hypothesizing that its POC-ecarin clotting time (POC-ECT) accurately reflects dabigatran plasma concentrations.
Methods: A prospective single-center diagnostic study (ClinicalTrials.
Recent studies have shown that high-risk patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) treated with sodium glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have improved cardiovascular (CV) outcomes. In an exploratory analysis of data from the EMPA-REG study, elevations in haematocrit were shown to be strongly associated with beneficial CV effects. As insulin treatment has been shown to be antinatriuretic, with an associated increase in extracellular fluid volume, it is important to confirm whether haematocrit increase is maintained with concomitant insulin therapy.

Background: To evaluate the association between thyroid autoimmunity and psychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety, eating disorder, schizophrenia or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) among adolescents and young adults with type 1 diabetes (11-25 years).
Methods: We compared 9368 type 1 diabetes patients with thyroid autoimmunity (3789 of them treated with levothyroxine) with 62 438 type 1 diabetes patients without any thyroid disease from a multicentre diabetes patient follow-up registry (DPV) in terms of psychiatric disorders. Thyroid autoimmunity was defined as documented diagnosis of Hashimoto thyroiditis or positive antibodies against thyroid peroxidase or thyroglobulin.

Aims: Our aim was to comprehensively estimate the incidence of diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) recurrence and corresponding risk factors in two cohorts.
Methods: Prospective data from patients with active DFU from two diabetes centres in Germany (GER, n = 222) and the Czech Republic (CZ, n = 99) were analysed. Crude cumulative incidences were obtained.

High-throughput drug screens in cancer cell lines test compounds at low concentrations, thereby enabling the identification of drug-sensitivity biomarkers, while resistance biomarkers remain underexplored. Dissecting meaningful drug responses at high concentrations is challenging due to cytotoxicity, i.e.

Introduction: Epidemiological studies indicate an association between type 2 diabetes and cognitive dysfunction that appear to start already in the prediabetic state. Although cross-sectional studies have linked insulin resistance to impaired cognition, the potential predictive value of insulin resistance has not yet been sufficiently studied longitudinally without confounding by overt diabetes (and its pharmacological treatment).
Research Design And Methods: We investigated longitudinal data from participants of the 'Tübinger Evaluation of Risk Factors for Early Detection of Neurodegeneration' Study.

Background: Children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) are at much higher risk of developing celiac disease (CD) than the general population. The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence and differences in clinical presentation of CD in T1D in different regions of the world.
Methods: This study is based on the Better control in Pediatric and Adolescent diabeteS: Working to crEate cEnTers of Reference (SWEET) database.
The expression of short chain fatty acid receptors FFA2 and FFA3 in pancreatic islets raised interest in using them as drug targets for treating hyperglycemia in humans. This study aims to examine the efficacy of synthetic FFA2- and FFA3-ligands to modulate glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) in human pseudoislets which display intact glucose responsiveness. The FFA2-agonists 4-CMTB and TUG-1375 inhibited GSIS, an effect reversed by the FFA2-antagonist CATPB.

Long-term exposure of liquid preserved boar spermatozoa to seminal plasma (SP) can cause dramatic sperm injury. This study examined whether boar specificity exists in the sensitivity of spermatozoa to SP and whether correspondent biomarkers can be identified. Consecutive ejaculates ( = 4-5) collected from 19 boars were centrifuged, diluted with a pH-stablising extender with 10% (/) autologous SP and evaluated by computer-assisted semen analysis and flow cytometry.

Aims: To identify socioeconomic, behavioral and clinical factors that are associated with prediabetes according to different prediabetes definition criteria.
Methods: Analyses use pooled data of the population-based Cooperative Health Research in the Region of Augsburg (KORA) studies (n = 5312 observations aged ≥ 38 years without diabetes). Prediabetes was defined through either impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or elevated HbA1c according to thresholds of the American Diabetes Association.

In silico models to predict which tumors will respond to a given drug are necessary for Precision Oncology. However, predictive models are only available for a handful of cases (each case being a given drug acting on tumors of a specific cancer type). A way to generate predictive models for the remaining cases is with suitable machine learning algorithms that are yet to be applied to existing in vitro pharmacogenomics datasets.

Background: Owing to the increasing popularity of smartphones in Rwanda, almost 75% of the entire population currently has access to the internet. Although it has been shown that smartphone applications can support diabetes self-management, there was no diabetes self-management application available in Rwanda until April 2019. Based on the findings of a prior study assessing the needs and expectations of potential users, 'Kir'App' was developed to fill that void.

Background: International guidelines recommend psychosocial care for children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes.
Objective: To assess psychological care in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes in a real-world setting and to evaluate associations with metabolic outcome.
Methods: Delivery of psychological care, HbA1c, and rates of severe hypoglycemia and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes from 199 diabetes care centers participating in the German diabetes survey (DPV) were analyzed.

Aim: To analyse the associations of area deprivation and urban/rural traits with the incidence of type 1 diabetes in the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Methods: Data of incident type 1 diabetes cases in children and adolescents aged <20 years between 2007 and 2014 were extracted from a population-based diabetes register. Population data, indicators of area deprivation and urban/rural traits at the municipality level (396 entities) were obtained from official statistics.

Obesity and being overweight have become a worldwide epidemic affecting more than 1.9 billion adults and 340 million children. Efforts to curb this global health burden by developing effective long-term non-surgical weight loss interventions continue to fail due to weight regain after weight loss.

Objective: Myopathy, characterised by altered mitochondrial function, is a central part of the pathophysiology of peripheral arterial disease and the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of revascularisation on mitochondrial function.
Methods: High resolution respirometry was used to investigate mitochondrial respiration and the results were normalised to citrate synthase activity (CSA), a marker of mitochondrial content. Ten patients with symptomatic peripheral arterial disease (study group) and 10 subjects without ischaemia (control group) were included.
