Objectives: To identify an optimal pediatric musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) protocol for the detection of knee arthritis in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) including a comparison with existing protocols. Secondary aims were to correlate MSUS-identified B-Mode (BM) and Power Doppler-Mode (PD) synovitis with clinical findings.
Methods: Consecutive JIA patients with confirmed knee arthritis after clinical examination underwent a thorough MSUS study protocol which included views identified and consented by the Pediatric Rheumatology european Society (PReS) Imaging Working Party for the detection of synovitis.

Background: Systemic autoinflammatory disorders (SAIDs) represent a growing spectrum of diseases characterized by dysregulation of the innate immune system. The most common pediatric autoinflammatory fever syndrome, Periodic Fever, Aphthous Stomatitis, Pharyngitis, Adenitis (PFAPA), has well defined clinical diagnostic criteria, but there is a subset of patients who do not meet these criteria and are classified as undefined autoinflammatory diseases (uAID). This project, endorsed by PRES, supported by the EMERGE fellowship program, aimed to analyze the evolution of symptoms in recurrent fevers without molecular diagnosis in the context of undifferentiated AIDs, focusing on PFAPA and syndrome of undifferentiated recurrent fever (SURF), using data from European AID registries.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the clinical manifestations, course and outcome of SARS-CoV-2 infection among children and adolescents with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMD). Due to their underlying disease as well due to therapeutic immunosuppression, these patients may be at risk for a severe course of COVID-19 or for a flare of the underlying disease triggered by SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Methods: Demographic, clinical and treatment data from juvenile patients with RMD as well as data about SARS-CoV-2 infection like test date and method, clinical characteristics, disease course, outcome and impact on the disease activity of the RMD were documented on a specific SARS-CoV-2 questionnaire implemented in the National Paediatric Rheumatology Database (NPRD) in Germany.

Objectives: To describe a German cohort of patients with juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) and to evaluate clinical manifestations, disease course and prognosis in JDM patients with a certain myositis-specific autoantibody.
Methods: Cross-sectional data on patients with JDM documented in the National Paediatric Rheumatologic Database in Germany between 2014 and 2016 were analysed. In a subgroup of the cohort, MSAs were determined with a commercial multiplex array, and a retrospective chart review was conducted to specify the clinical phenotype and patient outcome.

MTX is the medication most commonly used for antirheumatic treatment in juvenile idiopathic arthritis. It has high efficacy, is usually well tolerated and has an excellent safety profile. However, frequently intolerance symptoms develop that manifest as nausea, feelings of disgust or abdominal complaints prior to or directly after administration of the medication.

Acid Ceramidase Deficiency (Farber disease, FD) is an ultra-rare Lysosomal Storage Disorder that is poorly understood and often misdiagnosed as Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). Hallmarks of FD are accumulation of ceramides, widespread macrophage infiltration, splenomegaly, and lymphocytosis. The cytokines involved in this abnormal hematopoietic state are unknown.

Objective: To describe the disease characteristics of patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) included in an inception cohort, to analyse how many patients from each JIA category reach an inactive disease state within the first year of specialised care and to determine predictors for attaining inactive disease.
Methods: Patients with JIA were enrolled in this study at 11 large German paediatric rheumatology units within the first 12 months after diagnosis. Laboratory and clinical parameters such as JIA core criteria and data on the medication used were collected every 3 months.

Objectives: A significant proportion of patients with juvenile spondyloarthritis (JSpA) are refractory to treatment with established medications. The objective of this study was to assess long-term efficacy of treatment with anti-TNF agents in patients with JSpA.
Methods: An observational study of 16 patients with JSpA from 3 centres treated with infliximab (n=10) and etanercept (n=6) was performed, with a median follow-up period of 7.
