During summer, children may meet fewer 24 hours Movement Guidelines (24 hr-MGs) [moderate-vigorous physical activity (PA): ≥60 minutes/day, screen time: ≤2 hours/day, sleep: 9-11 hours/day) compared with the school year. Structured environments within community settings (, summer programs) support guideline adherence. Information about the relationship between structured home environments and 24 hr-MGs is needed.

Impact of American College of surgeons trauma verification on statewide collaborative outcomes.

Background: American College of Surgeons (ACS) trauma center verification has demonstrated improved outcomes at individual centers, but its impact on statewide Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) Collaboratives is unknown. A statewide TQIP Collaborative, founded in 2011, noted underperformance in six of eight patient cohorts identified in the TQIP Collaborative report. We hypothesized that requiring ACS verification for level I and II trauma centers would result in improved outcomes for the state collaborative.

Mediators of a randomized controlled trial of a preventive intervention for youth of parents with depressive disorders.

Objective: The present study assessed two theory-driven mediators of the effects of a family group cognitive-behavioral (FGCB) preventive intervention for youth of parents with a history of major depressive disorder (MDD) or dysthymia on long-term youth psychopathology symptoms and diagnoses.

Importance: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common, chronic, cardiac arrythmia in older US adults. It is not known whether AF is independently associated with increased risk of retinal stroke (central retinal artery occlusion), a subtype of ischemic stroke that causes severely disabling visual loss in most cases and is a harbinger of further vascular events.

Objective: To determine whether there is an association between AF and retinal stroke.

Automated Lesion and Feature Extraction Pipeline for Brain MRIs with Interpretability.

This paper introduces the Automated Lesion and Feature Extraction (ALFE) pipeline, an open-source, Python-based pipeline that consumes MR images of the brain and produces anatomical segmentations, lesion segmentations, and human-interpretable imaging features describing the lesions in the brain. ALFE pipeline is modeled after the neuroradiology workflow and generates features that can be used by physicians for quantitative analysis of clinical brain MRIs and for machine learning applications. The pipeline uses a decoupled design which allows the user to customize the image processing, image registrations, and AI segmentation tools without the need to change the business logic of the pipeline.

Horizontal transfer and recombination fuel Ty4 retrotransposon evolution in Saccharomyces.

Horizontal transposon transfer (HTT) plays an important role in the evolution of eukaryotic genomes, however the detailed evolutionary history and impact of most HTT events remain to be elucidated. To better understand the process of HTT in closely related microbial eukaryotes, we studied Ty4 retrotransposon subfamily content and sequence evolution across the genus Saccharomyces using short- and long-read whole genome sequence data, including new PacBio genome assemblies for two S. mikatae strains.

Pain Coping Skills Training for Patients Receiving Hemodialysis: The HOPE Consortium Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: Chronic pain is common among individuals with dialysis-dependent kidney failure.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of pain coping skills training (PCST), a cognitive behavioral intervention, on pain interference.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This multicenter randomized clinical trial of PCST vs usual care was conducted across 16 academic centers and 103 outpatient dialysis facilities in the US.

Novel robust control with disturbance rejection for permanent magnet synchronous motors and experimental validation.

A novel robust control strategy is proposed in this work to address the dynamic control problem of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) position tracking and lessen the effect of system parameter and load fluctuations on the dynamic performance of PMSM. The tracking performance is improved by a robust control element built with the Lyapunov method to reduce the impact of uncertain factors such as parameter uncertainty, nonlinear friction, and external interference; the nominal control element is stabilized by the dynamics model. The uniformly bounded and uniformly final bounded systems are proven, and the associated conclusions are provided using the Lyapunov minimax approach.

Food Policy Councils and Healthy Food Access Policies: A 2021 National Survey of Community Policy Supports.

Introduction: Food policy councils (FPCs) are frequently used to facilitate change in food systems at the local, state, and regional levels, or in tribal nations. The objective of this study was to describe the prevalence of food policy councils and similar coalitions among US municipalities and their associations with healthy food access policies.

Methods: We used data from the 2021 National Survey of Community-Based Policy and Environmental Supports for Healthy Eating and Active Living, administered to municipal officials from May through September 2021.

Interests and Preferences in Programs to Improve Health Among Men With or at Risk for Type 2 Diabetes in Racial and Ethnic Minority Groups, 2019.

Introduction: Men in racial and ethnic minority groups are less likely than non-Hispanic White men to participate in programs designed to improve health, despite having a higher prevalence of type 2 diabetes. We sought to understand 1) the interests and preferences of racial and ethnic minority men, with or at risk for type 2 diabetes, in programs designed to improve health and 2) factors that influence participation and health practices.

Methods: We designed a 43-question web-based survey on facilitators and barriers to participation in a healthy living program.

Acute mortality event in false pilchards Harengula clupeola after salinomycin and amprolium treatment for myxozoan (Enteromyxum leei) infection.

This report documents complications in false pilchard Harengula clupeola and scad Decapterus macarellus associated with a salinomycin (60 mg kg-1) and amprolium (100 mg kg-1) gel feed treatment, along with prolonged temperature increase, for an Enteromyxum leei outbreak in a salt water, mixed species, public aquarium exhibit. Shortly after administration, a mass mortality event ensued where hundreds of false pilchards and a few scad died. Medicated gel feed was noted within the gastrointestinal tracts of all affected fish.

Trends and disparities in cardiovascular disease-related mortality among adults with myeloproliferative neoplasms in USA.

Aims: We aimed to perform a retrospective cohort study using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) Wide-Ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research (WONDER) database to analyse the trends in cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related mortality in patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) from 1999 to 2020.

Methods And Results: We analysed the death certificate data from the CDC WONDER database from 1999 to 2020 for CVD with co-morbid myeloproliferative disorders in the US population. Age-adjusted mortality rates (AAMRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were computed per 1 million population by standardizing crude mortality rates to the 2000 US census population.

Real World Data Versus Probability Surveys for Estimating Health Conditions at the State Level.

Government statistical offices worldwide are under pressure to produce statistics rapidly and for more detailed geographies, to compete with unofficial estimates available from web-based big data sources or from private companies. Commonly suggested sources of improved health information are electronic health records (EHRs) and medical claims data. These data sources are collectively known as real world data (RWD) because they are generated from routine health care processes, and they are available for millions of patients.

Efficacy of priming and commitment posters on urgent care patients' antibiotic expectations and knowledge: a cluster randomized trial.

Objective: Successfully educating urgent care patients on appropriate use and risks of antibiotics can be challenging. We assessed the conscious and subconscious impact various educational materials (informational handout, priming poster, and commitment poster) had on urgent care patients' knowledge and expectations regarding antibiotics.

Filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs) are manufactured in discrete sizes, with some models being limited in relation to accommodating the fit of some sex and race combinations. This study presents the development of a custom-fit respiratory protective device (RPD) which conforms to a user's facial features and flexes and moves with facial movements during use. Our design also integrates a pressure-sensing network, which continuously monitors fit and will alert the user when the fit is compromised.

Donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) in the peripheral blood of allograft recipients has shown to early identify allograft injury. In this study, we assessed the factors that influence the amount of circulating dd-cfDNA during the first month postkidney transplant as well as its longitudinal trend. A consecutive series of 98 adult kidney transplant recipients at a single center between July 2018 and January 2020 were included in this study.

Quantifying capacity of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery in Zimbabwe.

Objectives: To evaluate the otolaryngology surgical capacity in Harare, Zimbabwe by analyzing procedural volumes across four hospitals, one private and three public, from 2019 to 2022.

Methods: A retrospective review of hand-written surgical case logs was conducted at Harare Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Institute (HEENT), Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals (PGH), Sally Mugabe Children's Hospital (SMCH), and Sally Mugabe Adult's Hospital (SMAH). Patient age and surgical intervention for all otolaryngology surgeries performed in the operating room from 2019 to 2022 were recorded.

The pygmy sperm whale (Kogia breviceps) possesses an exocrine gland associated with its false gill slit pigmentation pattern. The cervical gill slit gland is a compound tubuloalveolar gland that produces a holocrine secretion and displays maturational changes in size and secretory histology. While the morphology of the cervical gill slit gland has been described in detail, to date, the chemical composition of its secretion remains uncharacterized.

Reducing Postoperative Opioid Use: A Comparison of Open Versus Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia for Patients Undergoing Open Pancreatoduodenectomy.

Background: Opioid crisis is a national issue with significant economic burden and marked increase in opioid-related deaths, particularly following surgical procedures. Reducing opioid requirements while maintaining effective analgesia is critically challenging, perioperatively. Multimodal drug regimens and guided regional anesthesia (RA) have been adopted to address this issue.

Management of alar webbing using a CAD-CAM splint: A case report.

Alar webbing is a functional and aesthetic defect of the nasal structure noted in cleft lip and palate patients (CLP), which is thought to be due to a deficiency in nasal lining tissue. Surgical procedures have previously focused on the removal of lining or alar cartilage leading to worse post-operative defects. This case demonstrates a novel technique of releasing the tissue, followed by using a CAD-CAM splint to help mold the tissue during the healing process to better control esthetics, symmetry, and prevent relapse.

Prevention and Management of Infectious Complications in Pediatric Patients With Cancer: A Survey Assessment of Current Practices Across Children's Oncology Group Institutions.

Introduction: While clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for pediatric oncology infection prophylaxis and management exist, few data describe actual management occurring at pediatric oncology centers.

Methods: An electronic survey querying infection management practices in nontransplant pediatric oncology patients was iteratively created by the Children's Oncology Group (COG) Cancer Control and Supportive Care Infectious Diseases Subcommittee and sent to leaders at all COG institutions, limiting each site to one response to represent their institution.

Results: The response rate was 57% (129/227 institutions).

Female dental students' perceptions on barriers and motivators in pursuing oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Purpose: Although females represent more than half of US dental students, less than 10% are practicing oral surgeons. This study sought to identify barriers and motivators perceived by female dental students in their D1 and D4 years concerning a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS).

Methods: This cross-sectional study used a single survey in 2023 sent to all US dental schools for female D1 and D4 students.

Background: Community-level social vulnerabilities may affect HIV outcomes. This analysis assessed the association between county-level social vulnerability and CDC-funded HIV testing program outcomes.

Setting: HIV testing data from 60 state and local health departments and 119 community-based organizations were submitted to CDC during 2020-2022.
