Background: Health institutions advocate for psychosocial and recovery-oriented interventions alongside pharmacological treatment for severe mental illness. Participatory arts interventions appear promising in promoting personal recovery by fostering connectedness, hope, renegotiation of identity, meaning-making, and empowerment. Despite encouraging findings, however, the evidence base remains thin.

Background: While antipsychotic medication reduces the risk of relapse for patients with schizophrenia, high prevalence of adverse effects results in low adherence. Lower doses of antipsychotics have been associated with increased level of function but also with increased risk of relapse. This study presents findings from a specialized deprescribing clinic.

Background: Immune mechanisms are associated with adverse outcomes in schizophrenia; however, the predictive value of various peripheral immune biomarkers has not been collectively investigated in a large cohort before.
Objective: To investigate how white blood cell (WBC) counts, ratios, and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels influence the long-term outcomes of individuals with schizophrenia spectrum disorder (SSD).
Methods: We identified all adults in the Central Denmark Region during 1994-2013 with a measurement of WBC counts and/or CRP at first diagnosis of SSD.

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease associated with lower quality of life and higher risk of anxiety and depression in adults. We investigate whether adolescents with psoriasis also experience poorer mental health than their peers.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we included questionnaire data on psoriasis and mental health from the 18-year follow-up of the Danish National Birth Cohort.

Inflammatory responses to acute stimuli are proposed to regulate sleep, but the relationship between chronic inflammation and habitual sleep duration is elusive. Here, we study this relation using genetically predicted level of chronic inflammation, indexed by CRP and IL6 signaling, and self-reported sleep duration. By Mendelian randomization analysis, we show that elevated CRP level within <10 mg/L has a homeostatic effect that facilitates maintaining 7-8 h sleep duration per day - making short-sleepers sleep longer (p = 2.

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The risk of CVD increases with the severity of psoriasis, and exposure to systemic inflammation may partly explain the increased risk of CVD in these patients. This raises the question of whether anti-psoriatic treatment, in addition to treating the skin lesions, also lowers the risk of developing CVD.

Introduction: Autopsy rates are declining worldwide, resulting in increasing selectivity in referral for forensic autopsy and increased uncertainty about the validity of assigned causes of death. Persons with psychiatric disorders have high rates of premature death but not all are referred for forensic autopsies. Knowledge is needed on which decedents with psychiatric disorders are chosen for forensic autopsy to determine whether causes of death are at risk of being misclassified among certain subgroups of decedents.

Background: Patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis are candidates for systemic treatment, but it is unknown how many receive such therapy at a national level in Denmark.
Objectives: We aimed to determine the prevalence of conventional systemic therapy use in patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis and, further, to investigate the time to discontinuation of conventional systemic therapy and initiation of biological therapy among biologic-naïve patients.
Methods: This registry-based study identified a cohort of patients with psoriasis in Denmark.

Background: Activity and participation are critical to health and wellbeing. Limited evidence exists on how to support people with mental illness in participating in everyday activities.
Aim: To investigate the effectiveness of Meaningful Activities and Recovery (MA&R), a co-led peer occupational therapy intervention focusing on activity engagement, functioning, quality of life, and personal recovery.

Background: Comorbid disease may increase mortality in persons with schizophrenia, but how specific diseases are associated with natural and unnatural death in different age groups is unclear.
Aims: To investigate the association between eight major comorbid diseases and death from natural and unnatural causes in different age groups in persons with schizophrenia.
Method: Retrospective register-based cohort study in 77,794 persons with schizophrenia in Denmark, 1977-2015.

Background: Neuroinflammation has been suggested as a contributor to the pathophysiology of depression; however, large case-control studies investigating cytokine levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from patients with recent-onset depression by multiplex analyses are missing.
Methods: An individually matched (sex and age) prospective case-control study comparing patients with recent-onset depression to healthy controls. CSF was analyzed with the Mesoscale V-PLEX Neuroinflammation Panel 1.

Purpose: Knowledge about predictors of return to work (RTW) in people on sick leave with common mental disorders (CMDs) may inform the development of effective vocational rehabilitation interventions for this target group. In this study, we investigated predictors of RTW at 6 and 12 months in people on sick leave with depression, anxiety disorders or stress-related disorders.
Methods: We have performed a secondary analysis, utilizing data from two RCTs that evaluated the efficacy of an integrated health care and vocational rehabilitation intervention.

Objectives: Integrating vocational rehabilitation and mental healthcare has shown effects on vocational outcomes during sick leave with common mental disorders. In a previous paper, we showed that a Danish integrated healthcare and vocational rehabilitation intervention (INT) had a surprisingly negative impact on vocational outcomes compared to service as usual (SAU) at 6- and 12-month follow-up. That was also the case with a mental healthcare intervention (MHC) tested in the same study.

Integration of vocational rehabilitation and mental healthcare has shown some effect on work participation at 1-year follow-up after sick leave with depression and anxiety. We aimed to study the effect on work and health outcomes at 2-year follow-up, why we performed a randomized trial was conducted to study the effectiveness of integrated intervention (INT) compared to service as usual (SAU) and best practice mental healthcare (MHC). We included 631 participants, and at 24-month follow-up, we detected no differences in effect between INT and SAU.

Background: While administrative health records such as national registries may be useful data sources to study the epidemiology of psoriasis, they do not generally contain information on disease severity.
Objectives: To develop a diagnostic model to distinguish psoriasis severity based on administrative register data.
Method: We conducted a retrospective registry-based cohort study using the Danish Skin Cohort linked with the Danish national registries.

Recommendations for duration of treatment with antipsychotics before considering a switch vary from 2 to 8 weeks, although several studies suggest a rapid onset of action. The objective of this review was to estimate time to onset of action and time to maximum antipsychotic effect of asenapine, olanzapine, quetiapine, and zotepine (pines). We searched bibliographic databases for randomized, placebo-controlled trials in adults with schizophrenia estimating the antipsychotic effect of pines over time.

Onset of mental health disorder peaks during adolescence making continuity of care during this period of life crucial both to ensure a smooth treatment course and high quality of mental health services for adolescents. We aimed to examine which clinical and sociodemographic features predict transfer from child and adolescent mental health services to adult mental health services and if transfer is associated with prognosis. A Danish register study including all 16-17-year-olds with an outpatient contact in child and adolescent mental health services, who were discharged in the period of 1/1/06-10/05/15.
