To develop a robust segmentation model, encoding the underlying features/structures of the input data is essential to discriminate the target structure from the background. To enrich the extracted feature maps, contrastive learning and self-learning techniques are employed, particularly when the size of the training dataset is limited. In this work, we set out to investigate the impact of contrastive learning and self-learning on the performance of the deep learning-based semantic segmentation.

This study aims to determine whether 1) individuals with treatment-resistant schizophrenia display early cognitive impairment compared to treatment-responders and healthy controls and 2) N-methyl-D-aspartate-receptor hypofunction is an underlying mechanism of cognitive deficits in treatment-resistance. In this case‒control 3-year-follow-up longitudinal study, n = 697 patients with first-episode psychosis, aged 18 to 35, were screened for Treatment Response and Resistance in Psychosis criteria through an algorithm that assigns patients to responder, limited-response or treatment-resistant category (respectively resistant to 0, 1 or 2 antipsychotics). Assessments at baseline: MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery; N-methyl-D-aspartate-receptor co-agonists biomarkers in brain by MRS (prefrontal glutamate levels) and plasma (D-serine and glutamate pathways key markers).

Introduction: Magnetic resonance guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) thalamotomy is an effective treatment for drug-resistant tremor. The most frequent side effects are ataxia, gait disturbance, paresthesias, dysgeusia, and hemiparesis. Here, we report the first case of thalamic hand dystonia rapidly occurring after MRgFUS thalamotomy of the ventral intermediate nucleus (V.

Objective: To validate the prognostic accuracy of anti-apolipoprotein A-1 (AAA1) IgG for incident major adverse cardiovascular (CV) events (MACE) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and study their associations with the lipid paradox at a multicentric scale.
Method: Baseline AAA1 IgG, lipid profile, atherogenic indexes, and cardiac biomarkers were measured on the serum of 1,472 patients with RA included in the prospective Swiss Clinical Quality Management registry with a median follow-up duration of 4.4 years.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the organ doses assessed through a digital phantom-based and a patient specific-based dosimetric tool in adult routine thorax computed tomography (CT) examinations with reference to physical dose measurements performed in anthropomorphic phantoms.
Methods: Two Monte Carlo based dose calculation tools were used to assess organ doses in routine adult thorax CT examinations. These were a digital phantom-based dosimetry tool (NCICT, National Cancer Institute, USA) and a patient-specific individualized dosimetry tool (ImpactMC, CT Imaging GmbH, Germany).

Fentanyl is a powerful painkiller that elicits euphoria and positive reinforcement. Fentanyl also leads to dependence, defined by the aversive withdrawal syndrome, which fuels negative reinforcement (that is, individuals retake the drug to avoid withdrawal). Positive and negative reinforcement maintain opioid consumption, which leads to addiction in one-fourth of users, the largest fraction for all addictive drugs.

Objective: To explore the registration of enthesitis among biologic-naïve patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) initiating tumour necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi) treatment across 12 European registries, compare the disease burden and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) between patients with and without enthesitis, and assess the enthesitis treatment response.
Method: Demographics, clinical characteristics, and PROs at first TNFi (TNFi-1) initiation (baseline) were assessed in patients with PsA, diagnosed by a rheumatologist, with versus without assessment of entheses and between those with versus without enthesitis. Enthesitis scores and resolution frequency were identified at follow-up.

Purpose: This study elucidates the preoperative anxiety (PA), information need (IN), and health literacy (HL) levels of an elective preoperative sample in Switzerland and examines the possible associations between PA and the patients' characteristics. By knowing these patient dimensions, which can influence perioperative outcomes, one can tailor individualized nursing interventions to improve patients' surgical experience.
Design: This was a cross-sectional and correlational study.

Gradual elevation of the periosteum from the original bone surface, based on the principle of distraction osteogenesis, induces endogenous hard and soft tissue formation. This study aimed to assess the impact of alternating protocols of activation with relaxation (periosteal pumping) on bone modeling and remodeling. One hundred and sixty-two adult male Wistar rats were used in this study.

Non-small cell lung cancer is a heterogeneous disease and molecular characterisation plays an important role in its clinical management. Next-generation sequencing-based panel testing enables many molecular alterations to be interrogated simultaneously, allowing for comprehensive identification of actionable oncogenic drivers (and co-mutations) and appropriate matching of patients with targeted therapies. Despite consensus in international guidelines on the importance of broad molecular profiling, adoption of next-generation sequencing varies globally.

This review casts a spotlight on intraoperative positron emission tomography (PET) scanners and the distinctive challenges they confront. Specifically, these systems contend with the necessity of partial coverage geometry, essential for ensuring adequate access to the patient. This inherently leans them towards limited-angle PET imaging, bringing along its array of reconstruction and geometrical sensitivity challenges.

. The primary goal of this research is to demonstrate the feasibility of radiation-induced acoustic imaging (RAI) as a volumetric dosimetry tool for ultra-high dose rate FLASH electron radiotherapy (FLASH-RT) in real time. This technology aims to improve patient outcomes by accurate measurements ofdose delivery to target tumor volumes.

Health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) data are central to capturing the quality of patients' life, while endpoints like overall survival (OS) focus on the quantity of life. When analyzing HRQoL data gathered from patients in a randomized trial, a key consideration is the completion rate - indicating the proportion of patients remaining in the trial and with completed questionnaires. When completion rates are disproportionately low in one treatment arm, one likely explanation is that patients who did not complete questionnaires suffered more from toxicities, negatively impacting their HRQoL.

Speakers with motor speech disorders (MSD) present challenges in speech production, one of them being the difficulty to adapt their speech to different modes. However, it is unclear whether different types of MSD are similarly affected when it comes to adapting their speech to various communication contexts. This study investigates the encoding of speech modes in individuals with AoS following focal brain damage and in individuals with hypokinetic dysarthria (HD) secondary to Parkinson's disease.

Background: Negative symptoms in schizophrenia (SZ), such as apathy and diminished expression, have limited treatments and significantly impact daily life. Our study focuses on the functional division of the striatum: limbic-motivation and reward, associative-cognition, and sensorimotor-sensory and motor processing, aiming to identify potential biomarkers for negative symptoms.
Study Design: This longitudinal, 2-center resting-state-fMRI (rsfMRI) study examines striatal seeds-to-whole-brain functional connectivity.

Drug discovery aims to identify potential therapeutic compounds capable of modulating the activity of specific biological targets. Molecular docking can efficiently support this process by predicting binding interactions between small molecules and macromolecular targets and potentially accelerating screening campaigns. SwissDock is a computational tool released in 2011 as part of the SwissDrugDesign project, providing a free web-based service for small-molecule docking after automatized preparation of ligands and targets.
