  • Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) affects about 2% of adults, and there is a lack of standardized outcomes in clinical research, leading to inconsistencies in study results; creating a standardized minimum data set could enhance comparability.* -
  • The study used a modified Delphi method to develop a core outcome set (COS), core data elements (CDEs), and a core measurement set (CMS) for DCM research, with input from an international stakeholder group.* -
  • In total, 28 outcomes were identified across 6 key domains, culminating in a structured data set that can be utilized in future clinical trials to ensure consistency and improve measurement accuracy in DCM research.*

Article Synopsis
  • * Data from 459 patients with vessel perforation showed a 90-day mortality rate of 51.9%, with only 16.3% achieving a favorable recovery (mRS 0-2).
  • * The findings indicate that large vessel perforation leads to worse outcomes, while thrombolysis doesn’t worsen prognoses; quick management of bleeding is crucial for survival.

Background: Emergency triage, which involves complex decision-making under stress and time constraints, may suffer from inaccuracies due to workplace distractions. A serious game was developed to simulate the triage process and environment. A pilot study was undertaken to collect preliminary data on the effects of distractors on emergency nurse triage accuracy.

Article Synopsis
  • Functional neurological disorder (FND) is a significant cause of neurological disability in Europe, but it receives inadequate attention in medical training compared to conditions like multiple sclerosis (MS).
  • A survey of 25 countries revealed that FND is often not included in mandatory neurology training and has limited representation in examinations and specialized services.
  • There is a notable disparity in access to care and disability benefits for FND patients, highlighting the need for improvements in education, healthcare policies, and patient advocacy.

Objectives: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a highly heritable disorder characterized by emotion dysregulation and recurrent oscillations between mood states. Despite the proven efficacy of early interventions, vulnerability markers in high-risk individuals are still lacking. BD patients present structural alterations of the hippocampus, a pivotal hub of emotion regulation networks composed of multiple subregions with different projections.

In up to two thirds of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) PET scans, unspecific bone uptake has been described. The aim of this study was to estimate the diagnostic accuracy of [Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT for bone metastases and the occurrence of equivocal lesions. We analyzed retrospectively 118 patients who underwent a [Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT for initial staging or recurrence evaluation.

Biomechanical stress may exacerbate inflammation in psoriatic arthritis (PsA). This study aimed to investigate disease activity, work disability, and drug response/retention rates in PsA patients among two different occupation's types: blue-collar workers (BCol) with manual labor versus white-collar workers (WCol) with sedentary occupations. PsA patients registered in the Swiss cohort (SCQM) were classified as BCol or WCol workers and assessed at the initiation of a biologic or targeted synthetic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (b-/tsDMARD).

A comprehensive knowledge of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) molecular variation worldwide is essential in human population genetics research and disease association studies and is also indispensable for clinical applications such as allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation, where ensuring HLA compatibility between donors and recipients is paramount. Enormous progress has been made in this field thanks to several decades of HLA population studies allowing the development of helpful databases and bioinformatics tools. However, it is still difficult to appraise the global HLA population diversity in a synthetic way.

Evidence is growing that the individual adjustment of energy targets guided by indirect calorimetry (IC) can improve outcome. With the development of a new generation of devices that are easier to use and rapid, it appears important to share knowledge and expertise that may be used to individualize nutrition care. Despite the focus of this tutorial being on one contemporary device, the principles of IC apply across existing devices and can assist tailoring the nutrition prescription and in assessing response to nutrition therapy.

We introduce an innovative, simple, effective segmentation-free approach for survival analysis of head and neck cancer (HNC) patients from PET/CT images. By harnessing deep learning-based feature extraction techniques and multi-angle maximum intensity projections (MA-MIPs) applied to Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography (FDG-PET) images, our proposed method eliminates the need for manual segmentations of regions-of-interest (ROIs) such as primary tumors and involved lymph nodes. Instead, a state-of-the-art object detection model is trained utilizing the CT images to perform automatic cropping of the head and neck anatomical area, instead of only the lesions or involved lymph nodes on the PET volumes.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore sex differences in patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) among patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) starting their first tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi).
  • Data from 15 registries were analyzed, focusing on changes in BASDAI and BASFI scores over 24 months using linear mixed models.
  • Results indicated that women reported significantly worse outcomes than men, with the sex differences in scores nearly doubling after 6 months, and baseline characteristics such as HLA-B27 positivity and disease duration helped explain some but not all of the differences.

Unlabelled: Over two decades, most cancer vaccines failed clinical development. Key factors may be the lack of efficient priming with tumor-specific antigens and strong immunostimulatory signals. MVX-ONCO-1, a personalized cell-based cancer immunotherapy, addresses these critical steps utilizing clinical-grade material to replicate a successful combination seen in experimental models: inactivated patient's own tumor cells, providing the widest cancer-specific antigen repertoire and a standardized, sustained, local delivery over days of a potent adjuvant achieved by encapsulated cell technology.

This qualitative study of the situation of Latin American migrants with Chagas Disease in Geneva analyses how precarious migration-related socioeconomic conditions determine health priorities and disease perception. The study was conducted between 2016 and 2019 and is based on survey data collected in three Chagas-related community events, as well as on open-ended interviews with Bolivian migrants. This research contributes to more appropriate development of public health policies for migrants, as well as to a more nuanced and culturally sensitive understanding of how precarity affects the delivery of, and access to, healthcare in Western Europe.
