Introduction: With rapid elevation in population, urbanization and industrialization, the environment is exposed to uncontrolled discharge of effluents filled with broad-spectrum toxicity, persistence and long-distance transmission anthropogenic compounds, among them heavy metals. That put our ecosystem on the verge or at a stake of drastic ecological deterioration, which eventually adversely influence on public health. Therefore, this study employed marine fungal strain Rhodotorula sp.

Bee-derived pharmaceutical products, including propolis (PRO) and royal jelly (ROJ), possess outstanding pharmacological properties. However, their efficiency in counteracting the deleterious influences of cadmium (Cd) in testes and the relevant mechanisms entail further investigations. Therefore, this study sheds light on the therapeutic efficacy of PRO and ROJ against testicular dysfunction and infertility induced by Cd.

The escalating interest in bacterial cellulose (BC) confronts a substantial obstacle due to its biologically inert properties. Hence, BC was modified with ethanolic mango peel extract (EEMP) for various industrial and medical applications of the novel nanocomposite (BC/EEMP). High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) delineated the phenolic composition of EEMP, revealing a repertoire of polyphenolic compounds, notably chlorogenic acid, gallic acid, catechin, and ellagic acid.

Red kidney beans (RKB) serve as a powerhouse packed with a plethora of largely unexplored extraordinary chemical entities with potential significance. However, their nutraceutical applications as a functional hypoglycemic food still lag behind and warrant further investigation. With a scope to optimize chemical and biological traits of RKB, green modification approaches (processing methods) seem inevitable.

Metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HC) is a serious health concern. The stemness of cancer stem cells (CSCs) is a key driver for HC tumorigenesis, apoptotic resistance, and metastasis, and functional mitochondria are critical for its maintenance. Cuproptosis is Cu-dependent non-apoptotic pathway (mitochondrial dysfunction) via inactivating mitochondrial enzymes (pyruvate dehydrogenase "PDH" and succinate dehydrogenase "SDH").

Silks are a class of proteins generated naturally by different arthropods, including silkworms, spiders, scorpions, mites, wasps, and bees. This review discusses the silk fibroin and silk sericin fabricated by Bombyx mori silkworm as versatile fibers. This silk fiber is predominantly composed of hydrophobic silk fibroin and hydrophilic silk sericin.

The goal of the current work was to optimize the growth parameters needed to manufacture agarase enzyme from a non-marine PI strain of Bacillus subtilis on an agar-based medium. Using Plackett-Burman design (PBD), nine process parameters were evaluated, and agar, peptone, and yeast-extract were identified as the most significant independent factors influencing agarase production with confidence levels more than 90%. To evaluate the optimal concentrations of the indicated process parameters on agarase production, the Box-Behnken design (BBD) was applied.

The Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), a gonochoristic teleost fish with a XX/XY sex-determination system, is an ideal model for investigating gonadal sex differentiation. During gonadal differentiation, the expression of cyp19a1a in XX gonads and dmrt1 in XY gonads are required for undifferentiated tissues to develop into ovary or testis. In this study, quantitative real-time RT-PCR assessed the expression of cyp19a1a and dmrt1 genes in gonads and tail fin tissues.
