Nonetheless, the prognostic significance of Na/Cl in individuals undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) remains unexplored. This study seeks to explore the association between initial Na/Cl levels and mortality in PD patients.

Herpes zoster is an acute infectious skin disease caused by the reactivation of latent varicella-zoster virus, vaccination, such as subunit vaccine with good safety, can effectively prevent shingles through increasing immunity of the body. However, protein antigens are prone to degradation and inactivation, which alone is generally not sufficient to induce potent immune effect. In this study, the liposomal vaccine platform modified with mPLA (TLR4 agonist) was developed to improve the immunogenicity of glycoprotein E (VZV-gE) derived from herpes zoster virus.

Sevoflurane versus propofol on immediate postoperative cognitive dysfunction in patients undergoing cardiac surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass: a comparative analysis.

Objective: This study aims to compare the effects of sevoflurane (SEV) and propofol (PRO) on postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) in patients undergoing cardiac surgery (CS) under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), with a focus on evaluating the efficacy of these anesthetic agents in preventing POCD.

Methods: A total of 113 patients undergoing CS with CPB were grouped into two: PRO group (n = 58) and SEV group (n = 55). Baseline data, anesthesia effects (CPB duration, anesthesia time, respiratory recovery time, and anesthesia recovery time), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores, POCD incidence, neurological function markers (NSE, S-100β, MMP9), and serum inflammatory markers (IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α) were analyzed.

Non-small cell lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a markedly heterogeneous disease, with its underlying molecular mechanisms and prognosis prediction presenting ongoing challenges. In this study, we integrated data from multiple public datasets, including TCGA, GSE31210, and GSE13213, encompassing a total of 867 tumor samples. By employing Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis, machine learning techniques, and comprehensive bioinformatics approaches, we conducted an in-depth investigation into the molecular characteristics, prognostic markers, and potential therapeutic targets of LUAD.

Methods: Data were obtained from the China National Stroke Screening Survey (CNSSS). From January 2016 to December 2023, a total of 15471 permanent residents aged ≥ 40 years in Yinchuan were screened.

Methods: Female C57 BL/6J mice aged 4-5 weeks were administered letrozole (1 mg/kg/d) and a high-fat diet for 21 days to establish a PCOS model, and a control group was established.

Efficacy analysis of pancreatic duct stenting in treating severe acute pancreatitis: a retrospective study.

Background: This study aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy of pancreatic duct stenting in the treatment of SAP, providing reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical data from patients with SAP admitted to the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University from June 1, 2019 to December 31, 2022. A total of 51 patients were included (33 males, 18 females).

Despite this significance, the precise molecular mechanisms governing exosome secretion and their impact on tumor progression remain incompletely understood.

[Internal heat acupuncture therapy for 44 cases knee osteoarthritis of early to middle stages].

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of internal heat acupuncture therapy for knee osteoarthritis of early to middle stages, and explore its influence on cartilage thickness.

Methods: A total of 44 patients with knee osteoarthritis of early to middle stages were treated with internal heat acupuncture therapy at points (most of them are located at the subpatellar fat pad, both sides of the patellar ligament, the tendon of the quadriceps and the attachment of the medial and lateral collateral ligaments), once a week, a total of 4 weeks of treatment. Before and after treatment, after 3 months of treatment completion (in the follow-up), the visual analogue scale (VAS) score, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities osteoarthritis index (WOMAC) score, frequency of 30-second chair stand test (30sCST), cartilage thickness of femoral intercondylar and knee joint ultrasound score were compared, and the clinical effect was evaluated.

This study mainly explored the molecular mechanism of macrophage polarization in the tumor microenvironment and its impact on the progression of gastric cancer. KPNA2 and KPNB1 expressions in cancer tissues and adjacent non-cancerous tissues were quantified via RT-qPCR and western blot.

Plastic harmful ingredients reduce the level of neurofilament light chain protein.

Population exposure to plastics is increasing, and plasticizers are frequently detected in humans as important ingredients of plastic products. However, patterns of exposure to harmful ingredients of plastics and their effects on neurofilament light chain (NFL), a marker of active brain pathology, are currently inconclusive. Herein, we employed a range of statistical methods to thoroughly investigate the impact of 24 plastic hazardous ingredients and their varying exposure patterns on NFL concentrations in the blood of the general population in 533 participants.

Clinical profile and molecular genetic analysis of alport syndrome in children: a single center experience.

Background: Alport syndrome (AS) is a multifaceted condition that primarily affects the basement membranes of the kidneys, ears, and eyes. AS is considered the second most common cause of hereditary renal failure, exhibiting varied clinical manifestations across different lifespans. The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical features and genetic profile of AS and to elucidate the genotype-phenotype correlation of AS.

Comparison of the Effects of H37Rv and Infiltration on Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha and Interleukin-1 Beta Expression in Osteoblasts.

This study aims to compare the expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) in osteoblasts infiltrated with H37Rv (H37Rv) and to understand the differential bone destruction in spinal tuberculosis (STB) versus spondylitis (BS). Primary osteoblasts were isolated and cultured from the cranial bones of 2-5 days old mice and characterized by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining and alizarin red staining (ARS). H37Rv and were cultured to the logarithmic phase, and transfection solutions were prepared.

Factors affecting poor prognosis of COVID-19 in people living with human immunodeficiency virus: A systematic review and meta-analysis of co-infection.

Objectives: This study aims to assess the correlation between clinical features and mortality in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected individuals with COVID-19.

Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted for cohort, cross-sectional, and case series that reported co-infection with HIV and COVID-19 published from January to September 2020. Clinical features such as age, comorbidities, CD4T lymphocyte counts, HIV RNA levels, and antiretroviral regimens were evaluated using meta-analyses and systematic reviews.

Genomic characterization of ST11-KL25 hypervirulent KPC-2-producing multidrug-resistant from China.

The global prevalence of ST11 hypervirulent carbapenem-resistant (hv-CRKP) isolates has been increasingly documented, yet genomic characterization of this clone remains insufficiently explored. Here, we report a clinical ST11-KL25 hv-CRKP strain (KP156) that exhibited resistance to multiple antibiotics and demonstrated hypervirulence in a mouse infection model. Whole-genome sequencing revealed that KP156 harbored one virulence plasmid (pKP156-Vir) and two resistance plasmids (pKP156-KPC and pKP156-tetA).

Tumor burden with AFP improves survival prediction for TACE-treated patients with HCC: An international observational study.

Background & Aims: Current prognostic models for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) are not extensively validated and widely accepted. We aimed to develop and validate a continuous model incorporating tumor burden and biology for individual survival prediction and risk stratification.

Methods: Overall, 4,377 treatment-naive candidates for whom TACE was recommended, from 39 centers in five countries, were enrolled and divided into training, internal validation, and two external validation datasets.

[The application value of the magnetic resonance T2 mapping sequence in evaluating early cartilage injury of the glenohumeral joint].

To explore the quantitative value of the T2mapping sequence in evaluating the early glenohumeral joint cartilage injury. A total of 92 patients with shoulder joint pain who underwent routine sequence and T2mapping sequence scanning in General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University from March 2023 to March 2024 were retrospectively collected as a case group. The patients were classified into tendinitis group, partial tear group and full tear group according to the degree of tendon injury.

TiRobot-assisted versus freehand femoral neck system placement in the treatment of femoral neck fractures: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and effectiveness of TiRobot-assisted treatment for femoral neck fractures, in comparison to traditional freehand treatment methods. Throughout the research process, we conducted an extensive literature search across numerous databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), CQVIP, and Wanfang. Based on the literature screening criteria, we selected six studies, encompassing 358 cases of femoral neck fracture patients, for this meta-analysis.

Background: Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a highly aggressive malignancy with a poor prognosis due to its late-stage diagnosis and limited treatment options.

Objectives: This study aimed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying PC progression and identify potential molecular targets for its diagnosis and treatment.

Methods: DAZAP1 expression in PC tissues, normal tissues and cell lines was assessed using immunohistochemistry (IHC), reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blotting.

Screening for retinopathy of prematurity in China: a five-year cohort study in seven screening centers.

Background: To analyze the demographic characteristics of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in China, attempting to propose optimized screening criteria and hopefully providing valuable information for future updates to the ROP guideline.

Methods: A multicenter, retrospective-cohort study was conducted. The study included infants born between January 1, 2018, and July 31, 2023, who underwent ROP screening and were diagnosed with ROP at seven screening centers in China.

Near-infrared-II-driven Z-scheme heterojunction Polyglycolated MoS/CoFeO amplified edge potential for dual-mode imaging guided tumor synergistic therapy.

In this study, acid-responsive Z-scheme heterojunctions polyglycolated MoS/CoFeO (MoS = molybdenum disulfide, CoFeO = cobalt ferrite) was synthesized using a two-step hydrothermal method, designated as MSCO-PEG, guided by dual modes of photoacoustic imagine (PAI) and nuclear magnetic imaging (MRI). MSCO-PEG (PEG = polyethylene glycol) responded to the acidic environment of tumor tissues and overexpression of hydrogen peroxide to turn on multimodal synergistic treatment of tumor cells under near-infrared-II (NIR-II) illumination.
