Most patients undergoing ambulatory surgeries experience high anxiety, but studies show technology-based distraction techniques can help reduce pain and anxiety levels.
This study tested the effectiveness of immersive Virtual Reality (VR) as a distraction tool during surgeries, using a randomized controlled experiment to compare VR patients with a control group.
Results revealed that patients using VR reported significantly lower anxiety levels after 45 and 90 minutes of surgery compared to those without VR assistance, suggesting VR could be a valuable tool for managing anxiety in surgical settings, though further research is needed.
