Can preoperative axillary ultrasound and biopsy of suspicious lymph nodes be an alternative to sentinel lymph node biopsy in clinical node negative early breast cancer?

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of preoperative axillary ultrasonography (AUS) and preoperative axillary fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) from suspicious lymph nodes in clinically node-negative breast cancer to compare with radiologically positive and sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) positive involvement.

Method: Clinically node-negative early-stage breast cancer patients were included in the study. These patients underwent preoperative AUS examination, suspicious lymph nodes were evaluated with FNAB.

This case-control study was designed to evaluate the risk of gastric cancer development in terms of VDR rs2228570 & rs731236, and VDBP rs7041 polymorphisms, and serum levels of vitamin D. The study consists of 77 gastric cancer patients and 84 healthy individuals.

Single-incision (with multi-input single-port) laparoscopic colorectal procedures: Early results.

Objective: Single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) is a "scar-less" new surgical technique which has been gaining popularity over recent years. In comparison to conventional multiport laparoscopic surgery, SILS is introduced as a less invasive method. This technique has also been applied to colorectal surgery.

Effects of diosmine-hesperidine on experimental colonic anastomosis.

Aim: Our goal was to determine the effects of a diosmine-hesperidine combination on wound healing in a rat model of colonic anastomosis.

Materials And Methods: In this study, 20 Wistar Albino female rats were randomized into four experimental groups containing five rats in each group. A segment of 1 cm of colon was excised 4 cm proximally to the peritoneal reflection in all rats without carrying out any mechanical or antibacterial bowel preparation.

Intracorporeal knotting versus metal endoclip application for the closure of the appendiceal stump during laparoscopic appendectomy in uncomplicated appendicitis.

Purpose: The goal of the study was to compare the efficacy of two methods--intracorporeal knotting and metal endoclip application--for closure of the appendiceal stump during laparoscopic appendectomy in a specific group of patients with uncomplicated appendicitis.

Methods: The patients were randomized into two groups who had their appendiceal stump secured by intracorporeal knotting (Group 1) and metal endoclipping (Group 2). Primary outcome measure was postoperative complications, whereas secondary outcome measures were intraoperative complications, operative time, length of hospital stay, and re-admissions (including rehospitalizations and reoperations).

A multicentre study on LMW-heparin effectiveness in preventing postsurgical thrombosis.
