Background: The risk of ischaemic heart disease (IHD) is increased in appendectomy patients, but it is not clear whether there is a causal relationship. We aimed to systematically estimate the causal relationship between appendectomy and IHD and its subtypes, acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and angina pectoris (AP), using Mendelian randomization (MR) study methods and meta-analysis.
Methods: As the discovery cohort analysis, we extracted independent genetic variants strongly associated with appendectomy from the FinnGen study (28,601 cases) as instrumental variables (IVs).

Copper-catalyzed click chemistry offers creative strategies for activation of therapeutics without disrupting biological processes. Despite tremendous efforts, current copper catalysts face fundamental challenges in achieving high efficiency, atom economy, and tissue-specific selectivity. Herein, we develop a facile "mix-and-match synthetic strategy" to fabricate a biomimetic single-site copper-bipyridine-based cerium metal-organic framework (Cu/Ce-MOF@M) for efficient and tumor cell-specific bioorthogonal catalysis.

Background: Despite the potential demonstrated by targeted plasma metabolite modulators in halting the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD), a lingering uncertainty persists concerning the causal relationship between distinct plasma metabolites and the onset and progression of CKD.
Methods: A genome-wide association study was conducted on 1,091 metabolites and 309 metabolite ratios derived from a cohort of 8,299 unrelated individuals of European descent. Employing a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis in conjunction with colocalization analysis, we systematically investigated the associations between these metabolites and three phenotypes: CKD, creatinine-estimated glomerular filtration rate (creatinine-eGFR), and urine albumin creatinine ratio (UACR).

Celiac axis stenosis can potentially lead to insufficient blood supply to vital organs, such as the liver, spleen, pancreas, and stomach. This condition result in the development of collateral circulation between the superior mesenteric artery and the hepatic artery. However, these collateral circulations are often disrupted during pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD), which may increase the risk of postoperative complications.

The primary aim of this investigation was to leverage radiomics features derived from contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography (CT) scans to devise a predictive model to discern the benign and malignant nature of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs). Radiomic signatures were meticulously crafted to delineate benign from malignant IPMNs by extracting pertinent features from contrast-enhanced CT images within a designated training cohort (n = 84). Subsequent validation was conducted with data from an independent test cohort (n = 37).
