Background: The main purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of sparing the rectoprostatic fascia (RPF) in adult male cadavers and in adult male patients who underwent total mesorectal excision (TME) for rectal cancer. A secondary objective was to evaluate urogenital function following rectal cancer surgery, pathologic, and oncologic outcomes.
Methods: In accordance with PRISMA guidelines, we performed a systematic review with an a priori design to identify relevant studies via MESH terms and keywords.

Background: The pattern of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence after resection/ablation is intrahepatic and/or systemic. The efficacy of atezolizumab-bevacizumab treatment as early therapy after recurrence has not been extensively evaluated.
Methods: We evaluated 32 patients (group A) with early HCC recurrence after resection/ablation and 24 patients (group B) initially diagnosed as Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC)-C, all treated with atezolizumab-bevacizumab.

Precise classification of sarcomas is crucial to optimal clinical management. In this prospective, multicenter, observational study within the Hellenic Group of Sarcoma and Rare Cancers (HGSRC), we assessed the effect of expert pathology review, coupled with the application of molecular diagnostics, on the diagnosis and management of sarcoma patients. Newly diagnosed sarcoma patients were addressed by their physicians to one of the two sarcoma pathologists of HGSRC for histopathological diagnostic assessment.

Aim: The aim of our study was to evaluate the accuracy of serum biomarkers (AFP/PIVKA-II) and their combination in HCC diagnosis among Caucasian cirrhotic patients.
Methods: Serum AFP/PIVKA-II levels were evaluated in 218 cirrhotics (163 males, 118 CTP-A, 66 ALBI-I, 111 with varices, 63 with diabetes) with (n = 90) or without (n = 128) HCC. Patients with HCC were categorized to BCLC Stage 0/A (n = 12), B (n = 21), C (n = 48), and D (n = 9).

Background And Aims: Hepatitis D virus (HDV) underdiagnosis remains common. We assessed the HDV screening and prevalence rates in HBsAg-positive patients seen at tertiary liver centres throughout Greece as well as factors affecting HDV diagnosis.
Methods: All adult HBsAg-positive patients seen within the last 5 years were included.

Purpose: The aim of our study was to evaluate, under real-life conditions, survival of patients with advanced HCC (BCLC-C), either initially presenting in that stage or migrating from BCLC-A to BCLC-C within 2 years after curative LR/RFA, treated either with Atezolizumab-Bevacizumab or TKIs.
Methods: Sixty-four cirrhotic patients with advanced HCC, who either initially presented as BCLC-C and were treated with Atezo-Bev (group A, N = 23) or TKIs (group B, N = 15) or who migrated from BCLC-A to BCLC-C stage within 2 years after LR/RFA and were either treated with Atezo-Bev (group C, N = 12) or TKIs (group D, N = 14), were retrospectively evaluated.
Results: The four groups were comparable for all baseline parameters (demographics/platelets/liver disease etiology/diabetes/varices/Child-Pugh stage/ALBI grade) except for CPT score and MELD-Na.

Wunderlich syndrome is an uncommon condition of spontaneous subcapsular and perirenal hemorrhage of atraumatic etiology in the kidney, with the potential to spread to the retroperitoneal region beyond the perirenal fascias. Its clinical manifestations usually include Lenk's triad, namely, acute flank pain, flank mass, and hemodynamic instability, which vary depending on the causative underlying renal pathology. Tumor bleeding of benign and malignant renal neoplasms is the most common cause of this syndrome, followed by vascular disorders and renal cystic diseases.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are transcripts of more than 200 nucleotides which cannot be translated into proteins. Small nucleolar RNA host gene 15 (SNHG15) is a lncRNA whose dysregulation has been found to have an important impact on carcinogenesis and affect the prognosis of cancer patients in various cancer types. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers with a poor long-term prognosis, while the best prognostic factor of the disease is its early diagnosis and surgery.

Nowadays, through the wide use of both magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography, the diagnosis of adrenal incidentaloma is becoming increasingly frequent. Pheochromocytomas are neuroendocrine tumors which produce catecholamine, and they are characterized by headaches, palpitations, sweating and hypertension. Aldosterone-secreting adrenal cortical adenomas can cause various metabolic and cardiovascular diseases due to aldosterone excess.

Dulaglutide is a once-weekly injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist that has shown a durable glycemic efficacy as well as beneficial effects on body weight and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) outcomes, making it an important option for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Common side effects of dulaglutide include nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal distension, and these are usually mild to moderate in severity and tend to diminish over time. Morbilliform drug eruptions to dulaglutide are very rare, with only one case reported until now.

Acute pericarditis is the most common inflammatory disorder of the pericardium, responsible for approximately 5% of visits to the emergency departments, concerning chest pain without myocardial infarction. We report a case of a 41-year-old man who presented to our hospital, complaining about retrosternal and epigastrium pain. The transthoracic echocardiogram showed pericardial effusion while the electrocardiogram and laboratory findings revealed acute pericarditis.

The intestinal microbiota consists of numerous microbial species that collectively interact with the host, playing a crucial role in health and disease. Colorectal cancer is well-known to be related to dysbiotic alterations in intestinal microbiota. It is evident that the microbiota is significantly affected by colorectal surgery in combination with the various perioperative interventions, mainly mechanical bowel preparation and antibiotic prophylaxis.

Rectal anatomy is one of the most challenging concepts of visceral anatomy, even though currently there are more than 23,000 papers indexed in PubMed regarding this topic. Nonetheless, even though there is a plethora of information meant to assist clinicians to achieve a better practice, there is no universal understanding of its complexity. This in turn increases the morbidity rates due to iatrogenic causes, as mistakes that could be avoided are repeated.
