Primary Ηypoparathyroidism in a Patient With Sarcoidosis: A Case Report.

Sarcoidosis is a complex, multisystem granulomatous disorder with a variable clinical presentation, commonly involving the lungs but potentially affecting any organ system. This case report describes a rare occurrence of primary hypoparathyroidism coexisting with sarcoidosis in a 45-year-old male patient. The patient presented with a chronic cough and progressive breathlessness.

Monkeypox: A Growing Concern for Pulmonary Health.

The re-emergence of monkeypox as a significant global health concern has highlighted the need to reassess its clinical presentation, particularly its impact on pulmonary health. Traditionally associated with dermatological symptoms, recent outbreaks in non-endemic regions have underscored the virus's potential for widespread transmission and respiratory complications. Emerging evidence indicates that monkeypox infection can lead to respiratory symptoms such as cough, sore throat, and, in severe cases, pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Investigation of the Use of Circulating Long Non-coding RNA HOXA Transcript at the Distal Tip (LncRNA HOTTIP) as a Biomarker in Breast Cancer.

The critical need for new diagnostic and prognostic methods is highlighted by the fact that breast cancer continues to be the top cause of cancer-related deaths globally. Due to the dysregulation of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in numerous malignancies, they have become potential biomarkers in cancer. Recent research has focused on the lncRNA HOTTIP (HOXA transcript at the distal tip), which has a function in breast cancer metastasis and carcinogenesis.

Filamentous Fungal Keratitis in Greece: A 16-Year Nationwide Multicenter Survey.

In a multicenter, prospective study of filamentous fungal keratitis in Greece, predisposing factors, etiology, treatment practices, and outcome, were determined. Corneal scrapings were collected from patients with clinical suspicion of fungal keratitis, and demographic and clinical data were recorded. Fungal identification was based on morphology, molecular methods, and matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass-spectrometry.

A Case of an Inflamed Pericardial Cyst As the Cause of Acute Onset Chest Pain in a Young Patient and Review of the Literature.

Among the extensive variety of disorders that can cause chest pain are the complicated pericardial cysts, pathological entities that otherwise are asymptomatic. Here, we describe a 34-year-old male patient with a symptomatic pericardial cyst presenting at the emergency department with acute chest pain that woke him up about six hours prior to presentation. The work up for his acute chest pain revealed a well-defined, fluid-filled, rounded mass next to the pericardium on the right cardiophrenic angle and increased acute phase reactants.

Preoperative Anxiety in Patients With Nonmelanoma Skin Tumors of the Face.

The manifestation of preoperative anxiety often emerges when a patient is about to experience a surgical procedure. Especially in facial plastic surgery, where the reconstruction region is very strictly confined and the visibility of the outcome is undeniable, an upcoming surgery may easily provoke the feeling of anxiety. The aim of this study is to assess the number of patients that undergo preoperative anxiety and to associate it with several factors found to be concerning for them.

Generalized Lichen Planus-like Eruption Related to Trimebutine.

Unlabelled: Trimebutine is a spasmolytic agent with antimuscarinic effects that is used for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and lower gastrointestinal tract motility disorders. Lichenoid drug eruptions (LDE) to trimebutine maleate have not been previously reported. Here we present the case of a 50-year-old male patient who developed an extensive lichenoid eruption on his upper and lower extremities and trunk 4 weeks after starting treatment with trimebutine maleate 300 mg once daily for IBS.

Vitiligo-like lesions in patients with advanced breast cancer treated with cycline-dependent kinases 4 and 6 inhibitors.

Purpose: Introduction of cyclin-dependent inhibitors was a milestone in therapeutics for patients with estrogen receptor+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer. Despite the wide use of such agents and remarkable improvement of survival rates, drug-related adverse events are not yet fully characterized. We describe vitiligo-like lesions as a new adverse event occurring in patients with advanced breast cancer treated with cyclin-dependent inhibitors.

Association between PD-L1 expression and driver gene mutations in non-small cell lung cancer patients: correlation with clinical data.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Recently, promising therapies have emerged based on PD-1/PD-L1 immune checkpoint inhibitors, which have been approved even as frontline treatment for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We examined the association between PD-L1 expression and clinicopathological parameters as well as overall survival in 220 NSCLC patients.

Diagnostic accuracy of a novel cuffless self-blood pressure monitor for atrial fibrillation screening in the elderly.

Blood pressure (BP) monitors equipped with atrial fibrillation (AF) detection algorithm are attractive screening tools for AF in elderly hypertensives. This study assessed the diagnostic accuracy of a novel cuffless pocket-size self-BP monitor (Freescan, Maisense) equipped with an AF detection algorithm, which displays results for the detection of "AF" or "Arrhythmia" during routine BP measurement. Subjects aged >65 years or 60-65 years with hypertension, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease were subjected to BP measurements using the Freescan device with simultaneous continuous Holter electrocardiography (ECG) monitoring.

Blood pressure measurement in atrial fibrillation: review and meta-analysis of evidence on accuracy and clinical relevance.

: Atrial fibrillation (AF) often coexists with hypertension in the elderly and multiplies the risk of stroke and death. Blood pressure (BP) measurement in patients with AF is difficult and uncertain and has been a classic exclusion criterion in hypertension clinical trials leading to limited research data. This article reviews the evidence on the accuracy of BP measurement in AF performed using different methods (office, ambulatory, home) and devices (auscultatory, oscillometric) and its clinical relevance in predicting cardiovascular damage.

Cutaneous toxicities of antineoplastic agents: data from a large cohort of Greek patients.

Purpose: Cutaneous toxicities from novel anticancer treatments are an emerging problem in dermato-oncology. However, the prevalence of those toxicities and necessity of skin consultations are currently unknown. The purpose of our study was to perform an epidemiologic analysis of cutaneous toxicities that were referred to our cutaneous toxicity clinic in Athens, Greece.

Femoral hernias are challenging conditions, not only because their diagnosis is often missed, but also because if left undiagnosed and untreated, their complications are severe and often life-threatening. The authors present the second reported case of a femoral hernia of the Richter's variety containing caecum and appendix that, following strangulation and perforation, manifested as a groin abscess.
