The aim of the present study was to compare the clinical outcomes of cage-shaped demineralized bone plus local bone grafts (CDBLG) with those of autogenous iliac crest bone grafts (ICBG) implanted for the treatment of single-level lumbar intervertebral disc degenerative diseases. A total of 69 cases of degenerative spinal disorder treated between January 2011 and December 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. Of these, 44 were treated with CDBLG and 25 with autogenous ICBG.

High-altitude stress ulcer (HSU) has constantly been a formidable clinical challenge for high-altitude and severe hypoxia. Pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMFs) have been verified to have the ability to penetrate tissues, and the biological effects have been confirmed effective on various tissue restorations. However, the therapeutic effect of PEMFs on HSU has been rarely reported.

July 2019

State Key Laboratory of Military Stomatology & National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases & Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Stomatology, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Stomatology, Fourth Military Medical University, Xi'an, China.

This study aims to investigate the superiorities of fast degrading elastomeric poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS)/polycaprolactone (PCL) grafts over autologous vein grafts in the reconstruction of carotid artery, thus providing more suitable vascular grafts for carotid artery replacement. We fabricated small arterial grafts from microporous tubes of PGS reinforced with PCL nanofibers on the outer surface. As control, autologous jugular veins were harvested as vein grafts.

February 2019

State Key Laboratory of Military Stomatology, National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases, Shaanxi Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Stomatology, The Fourth Military Medical University, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China,

Purpose: Perineural invasion (PNI) is reported to correlate with local recurrence and poor prognosis of salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC). However, the pathogenesis of PNI remains unclear. The aims of this study were to investigate the correlation between sympathetic innervation and SACC PNI and to elucidate how the sympathetic neurotransmitter norepinephrine (NE) regulates the PNI process.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to explore the potential neuroprotective effects of Ginkgolide B (GB), a main terpene lactone and active component in , in hypoxia-induced neuronal damage, and to further investigate its possible mechanisms.

Materials And Methods: 54 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: the untreated control group (n=18); the hypoxia group (n=18; exposed to 6000 m simulated plateau altitude for six days); and the GB group (n=18; intragastric administration of 12 mg/kg GB three days prior to rapid adaption to 6000 m and on the first two days of hypoxia). After hypoxia exposure for six days, we dissected out the brain hippocampi and performed hematoxylin and eosin staining, Nissl staining, and TUNEL staining.

Discovery and validation of DNA methylation markers for overall survival prognosis in patients with thymic epithelial tumors.

Clin Epigenetics

March 2019

Cancer Center, Institute of Surgery Research, Third Affiliated Hospital, Army Medical University (Third Military Medical University), No. 10 Changjiang Zhilu, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, 400042, China.

Background: The current prognosis of thymic epithelial tumors (TETs) is according to the World Health Organization (WHO) histologic classification and the Masaoka staging system. These methods of prognosis have certain limitations in clinical application and there is a need to seek new method for determining the prognosis of patients with TETs. To date, there have been no studies done on the use of DNA methylation biomarkers for prognosis of TETs.

Aim: This study was designed to examine the potential mechanism underlying these roles of platelet-rich plasma in treating diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs).

Methods: and HaCaT were co-cultured under high glucose conditions to serve as an in vitro model for infected cells in DFUs. Platelet-rich gel (PRG) or extract liquid of platelet-rich gel (EPG) were used to interfere with the model to observe the growth of HaCaT cells and , and the effect of miR-21 changes in HaCaT cells on PDCD4, NF-κB activity and related inflammatory factors.

Acute brain dysfunction and the following neurological manifestation are common complications in septic patients, which are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. However, the therapeutic strategy of this disorder remains a major challenge. Given the emerging role of a clinically approved drug, probenecid (PRB) has been recently identified as an inhibitor of pannexin 1 (PANX1) channel, which restrains extracellular ATP release-induced purinergic pathway activation and inflammatory response contributing to diverse pathological processes.

Purpose: This study was conducted to compare a three-dimensional (3D) fusion image navigation system (FINS) with ultrasound (US) for guiding percutaneous microwave ablation (PMWA) for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective, non-randomized, comparative study. Our team developed a 3D FINS and used it to guide PMWAs for HCCs in 19 patients (3D group) and compared the results to those of 24 PMWAs guided by US (US group).

Electronic address:

Purpose: We investigated the expression of neuropilin-1 (NRP1), neuropilin-2 (NRP2), vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A), semaphorin-3A (Sema-3A), and semaphorin-3F (Sema-3F) in normal salivary gland (NSG) tissue, nonmetastatic salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC), and metastatic SACC to better understand their role in intratumoral angiogenesis and hematogenous metastasis of SACC.

Patients And Methods: The study included 60 SACC patients, equally divided between nonmetastatic SACC and metastatic SACC. We used 30 NSG samples as the control.

Nitric oxide (NO) is involved in neuronal modifications, and overproduction of NO contributes to memory deficits after acute hypobaric hypoxia-reoxygenation. This study investigated the ability of the iNOS inhibitor 1400W to counteract spatial memory deficits following acute hypobaric hypoxia-reoxygenation, and to affect expression of NOS, NO, 3-NT and MDA production, and apoptosis in rat cerebral cortex. We also used primary rat microglia to investigate the effect of 1400W on expression of NOS, NO, 3-NT and MDA production, and apoptosis.

Wound Repair Regen

November 2016

The Department of Ultrasound, Xijing Hospital, The Fourth Military Medical University, Xi'an, People's Republic of China.

Plateau frostbite (PF) treatments have remained a clinical challenge because this condition injures tissues in deep layers and affected tissues exhibit unique pathological characteristics. For instance, low-frequency pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) can affect tissue restoration and penetrate tissues. Therefore, the effect of PEMF on PF healing should be investigated.
