Intraductal papilloma of the sublingual gland imitating a ranula.

Ductal papillomas are rare benign lesions of the salivary glands with two distinctive types, intraductal and inverted. The rarest anatomical location where intraductal papillomas occur is the major salivary glands. In the present study, we report an intraductal papilloma of the left sublingual gland with the relevant clinical, imaging, and histopathological findings and postoperative follow-up.

An Overview of Play Therapy.

Background: Play is an essential parameter of children's growth and expression and this is the reason of why the use of play therapy is considered as fundamental means of preventing and dealing with problems and difficulties presented to children.

Objective: The aim of this paper is to review the parameters related to this issue, emphasizing the efficacy of this therapeutic approach to various problems of children.

Methods: A review of the recent literature on the issue, searching through Greek and international databases (Medline, Heal-link), in English and Greek language.

Omalizumab: An Optimal Choice for Patients with Severe Allergic Asthma.

Omalizumab is the first monoclonal antibody that was globally approved as a personalized treatment option for patients with moderate-to-severe allergic asthma. This review summarizes the knowledge of almost two decades of use of omalizumab to answer some important everyday clinical practice questions, concerning its efficacy and safety and its association with other asthma-related and drug-related parameters. Evidence suggests that omalizumab improves asthma control and reduces the incidence and frequency of exacerbations in patients with severe allergic asthma.

CoCross: An ICT Platform Enabling Monitoring Recording and Fusion of Clinical Information Chest Sounds and Imaging of COVID-19 ICU Patients.

Monitoring and treatment of severely ill COVID-19 patients in the ICU poses many challenges. The effort to understand the pathophysiology and progress of the disease requires high-quality annotated multi-parameter databases. We present CoCross, a platform that enables the monitoring and fusion of clinical information from in-ICU COVID-19 patients into an annotated database.

Role of spreader flaps in primary rhinoplasty, functional and aesthetic outcomes: a systematic review.

Background: The standard treatment for reconstructing the middle vault of the nose is to use spreader grafts. Recently, an alternative technique using spreader flaps has become widely accepted.

A 55-year-old man presented with dysphagia and a sore throat. Oral examination revealed a firm nodular mass in the midline of the pharyngeal wall. The tumor was en-bloc excised.

Background: Monogenic and polygenic inheritances are evidenced for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Pathogenic variations in surfactant protein-related genes, telomere-related genes (TRGs), and a single-nucleotide polymorphism in the promoter of MUC5B gene encoding mucin 5B (rs35705950 T risk allele) are reported. This French-Greek collaborative study, Gen-Phen-Re-GreekS in inheritable IPF (iIPF), aimed to investigate genetic components and patients' characteristics in the Greek national IPF cohort with suspected heritability.

Meta-analysis addressing the impact of cardiovascular-acting medication on peak oxygen uptake of patients with HFpEF.

As our therapeutic armamentarium for HFpEF is insufficient, research has been focusing on the potential beneficial effect of existing pharmaceutical regimens on this specific patient population. A series of RCTs have recently examined the impact of various pharmaceutical treatments with proven benefit in HFrEF, on the improvement of symptoms of HFpEF patients. This systematic review and meta-analysis comprised studies of adult patients with HFpEF and evaluated the impact of different cardiovascular acting medication on cardiorespiratory fitness, reflected by peak VO values measured during CPET.

Self-perceived quality of sleep among COPD patients in Greece: the SLEPICO study.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide accompanied by a substantial social and economic burden for the patient and the society. Poor sleep quality among COPD patients is frequently unnoticed and unaddressed by physicians and patients themselves, although it is a major source of further deterioration of these patients' quality of life. The aim of the present study was to record the quality of sleep in COPD patients among the Greek population and correlate these findings with various features of these patients, using the COPD and Asthma Sleep Impact Scale (CASIS).

Role of the lectin pathway of complement in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation-associated endothelial injury and thrombotic microangiopathy.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation-associated thrombotic microangiopathy (HSCT-TMA) is a life-threatening syndrome that occurs in adult and pediatric patients after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Nonspecific symptoms, heterogeneity within study populations, and variability among current diagnostic criteria contribute to misdiagnosis and underdiagnosis of this syndrome. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and associated risk factors precipitate endothelial injury, leading to HSCT-TMA and other endothelial injury syndromes such as hepatic veno-occlusive disease/sinusoidal obstruction syndrome, idiopathic pneumonia syndrome, diffuse alveolar hemorrhage, capillary leak syndrome, and graft-versus-host disease.

Quality of life in sinonasal tumors: an up-to-date review.

Purpose Of Review: To assess the impact of benign and malignant sinonasal tumors and their management on patients' Quality of Life (QOL) as measured by Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS).

Recent Findings: Although there is a growing consensus that endoscopic surgical management in carefully selected patients with sinonasal tumors is at least as (and probably more) effective than open resection, it is not clear to what extent this translates to better QOL outcomes. Earlier studies reported better outcomes in the emotional and physical function domains after endoscopic resection, and it seems that postsurgical morbidity is less in endoscopic compared to open approaches.

Background & Aims: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common liver disease in children and one of the leading indications for liver transplantation in adults. However, current screening methods are inadequate and are accompanied by several disadvantages. This meta-analysis aims to identify the anthropometrical and biochemical characteristics most commonly appearing in pediatric NAFLD that could contribute to the diagnosis of the disease in the every-day clinical setting.
