Tuberculosis is a mycobacterial infection that can affect the lungs as well as other organs. The involvement of the spine, although rare, can have major consequences if not diagnosed and treated in a timely and effective manner, such as residual deformities and neurological deficits. On occasion, the atypical presentation of tuberculous spondylitis may cause a delay in treatment and therefore lead to less favorable outcomes.

Specific bacterial infections can cause rapid necrosis of the nasal mucosa in immunocompromised patients, mimicking an invasive fungal infection. The exclusion of the latter is a priority because rapid deterioration and death may ensue within hours to days. The time lag between investigations and final diagnosis warrants empiric administration of Amphotericin B but patients are exposed to significant side effects.

Background: Hepatectomy with inflow occlusion results in ischemia-reperfusion injury; however, pharmacological preconditioning can prevent such injury and optimize the postoperative recovery of hepatectomized patients. The normal inflammatory response after a hepatectomy involves increased expression of metalloproteinases, which may signal pathologic hepatic tissue reformation.
Aim: To investigate the effect of desflurane preconditioning on these inflammatory indices in patients with inflow occlusion undergoing hepatectomy.

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths and despite extensive research, the survival rate of lung cancer patients remains significantly low. Recent data reveal that aberrant Kras signaling drives regulatory T cells (Tregs) present in lung tumor microenvironment to establish immune deregulation and immunosuppression but the exact pathogenic mechanism is still unknown. In this study, we investigate the role of oncogenic Kras in Treg-related immunosuppression and its involvement in tumor-associated metabolic reprogramming.

Introduction: Intracerebral haemorrhage in patients suffering from cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is relatively uncommon. CVT typically occurs in hypercoagulable state of various causes. Some drugs play a causative role in CVT and thrombopoietin receptor agonists are among them.

Lifelong professional education is considered as a qualitative indicator in the health discipline, as it can improve health professionals' knowledge and skills, as well as nursing care. The purpose of this original research is to examine and record the attitudes and behavior of nurses working in state-run hospitals in the Municipality of Thessaloniki regarding lifelong education through new technologies. Identification of nurses' motivations for lifelong distance education, recording of nurses' perception of the need for continuing nursing education, and determining how nurses pursue lifelong learning are the objectives of this study.

Background: "Carney Complex (CNC) is a familial lentiginosis syndrome, caused by mutations that lead to cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) signaling pathway abnormalities, predisposing to a variety of skin tumors, myxomas and endocrine tumors.
Methods/results: We describe a Greek family diagnosed with CNC after recurrent embolic strokes, secondary to left-sided atrial myxomas. There are limited cases in the literature describing this type of presentation for CNC; typically, most cases present with an endocrine syndrome.

Tuberculous vertebral osteomyelitis (TVO) is an extrapulmonary tuberculosis form characterized by difficulty and delay in diagnosis. PET/CT is a valuable, well-established tool in the diagnostic workup of cancer and fever of unknown origin, which is increasingly appreciated in the management of infectious diseases. We report a TVO case where PET/CT had a valuable contribution towards diagnosis and monitoring of treatment response, highlighting its advantages and future perspectives when dealing with infectious diseases.

Redox status (RS) perturbations and inflammation are fundamental features of chronic kidney disease (CKD) that are substantially exacerbated in end-stage renal disease (ESRD). This study aimed at investigating the efficacy of a 6-month intradialytic exercise training program on RS, inflammation and physical performance in patients with ESRD. Twenty hemodialysis (HD) patients (17 males, three females) were randomly assigned to either an intradialytic training (bedside cycling) group (TR; = 10) or a control group (CON; = 10) for 6 months.

Background: We report a case of a 30-year-old patient who presented with acute Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection that was complicated by reactive arthritis and asymmetric proximal myopathy and progressed to chronic spondyloarthropathy. Reactive arthritis and sacroiliitis are unusual extrapulmonary manifestations of M. pneumoniae infection, which is a common condition.

In the past decade, the Transradial Approach (TRA) has constantly gained ground among interventional cardiologists. TRA's anatomical advantages, in addition to patients' acceptance and financial benefits, due to rapid patient mobilization and shorter hospital stay, made it the default approach in most catheterization laboratories. Access-site complications of TRA are rare and usually of little clinical impact, thus, they are often overlooked and underdiagnosed.

Background And Aim: Νon-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is estimated to be the most common cause of end-stage liver disease in the next years. Vitamin E has shown beneficial effects as a possible "scavenger" of oxidative stress products, which play a major role in pathogenesis of the disease. The purpose of the present meta-analysis is to investigate the effects of vitamin E supplementation in biochemical and histological parameters in adult patients with NAFLD.

Immunosuppressive chemoresistance is a major burden in lung cancer. Recent data reveal that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) present in the lung tumor microenvironment are implicated in chemoresistant-related immune deregulation, and metastasis but their exact pathogenic role is still unknown. In this study, we investigate the role of lncRNA PCAT-1 in chemoresistant immunosuppression and its involvement in tumor stroma remodeling.

Background: Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is a rare immune-mediated disease of the peripheral nervous system characterized by motor weakness, sensory symptoms, areflexia, and specific electrophysiological findings. Rarely, Anti-Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (anti-TNFa) agents, which are used as a treatment for immune-mediated diseases, can cause neurological adverse effects on the central nervous system, as well as peripheral nervous system demyelination.
Case Report: We describe the case of a 63-year-old woman with ankylosing spondylitis who developed chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy after infliximab initiation.

Background: Jugular bulb diverticulum constitutes a rare clinical entity that may present with variable symptoms. When obstructing the endolymphatic duct, it may cause sensorineural hearing loss and vertigo, mimicking Meniere's disease. Diagnosis is based on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging scans, with magnetic resonance and digital subtraction angiography being more specific and detailed diagnostic methods.
