Positive acceleration adaptive training attenuates gastric ischemia-reperfusion injury through COX-2 and PGE2 expression.

Exp Ther Med

April 2019

Department of Gastroenterology and Research Center of Aeropathy, General Hospital of The Air Force, People's Liberation Army, Beijing 100036, P.R. China.

The mechanism involved in the effects of positive acceleration adaptive training (PAAT) on gastric ischemia-reperfusion injury (GI-RI) has not been fully characterized. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of PAAT in attenuating GI-RI in a rat model. The inflammatory factor and caspase-3 levels were measured using ELISA kits.

Clinical utility of flexion-extension ratio measured by surface electromyography for patients with nonspecific chronic low-back pain.

J Chin Med Assoc

January 2019

Chronic Disease Epidemiology, Central Regional Health Office, Group Corporate Development & Operations, National Healthcare Group, Singapore.

Background: Patients with chronic nonspecific low-back pain (CNSLBP) lack the flexion-relaxation phenomenon in full-trunk bending. This can be quantified by surface electromyography (SEMG) measurement of lumbar erector muscle. The study objective is to explore the clinical utility of the SEMG flexion-extension ratio (FER) in distinguishing patients with CNSLBP from painfree persons.

The objective was to evaluate the fracture resistance properties of maxillary incisors with flared canals restored with computer aided design and computer aided manufacture (CAD/CAM) integrated glass fiber post-and-core. Thirty prepared flared root canals were selected in vitro and restored with CAD/CAM integrated fiber post-and-core (Group A), prefabricated fiber posts (Group B), and cast gold alloy (Group C), respectively. After submitted to fatigue loading, each specimen was subjected to a static loading until fracture.

The functionally specialized melanosome is a membrane-enclosed lysosome-related organelle, which coexists with lysosomes in melanocytes. Pre-melanosomal protein (PMEL) initiates pre-melanosome morphogenesis and is the only cell-specific pigment protein required for the formation of fibrils on which melanin is deposited in melanosomes. But the effects of PMEL on melanin synthesis and lysosome activity remain unclear.

Ursolic acid has various pharmacological activities, and can reduce blood fat as well as having antihepatic, antitumoral, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. However, the pro-apoptotic mechanism by which ursolic acid influences human prostate cancer requires additional study. The aim of the present study was to assess whether ursolic acid activates the apoptosis of prostate cancer and to investigate the mechanism by which the Rho-associated protein kinase 1 (ROCK1)/phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) signaling pathway performs a role in ursolic acid-mediated cofilin-1 to induce apoptosis in human prostate cancer.

PPARγ agonist rosiglitazone switches fuel preference to lipids in promoting thermogenesis under cold exposure in C57BL/6 mice.

J Proteomics

March 2018

State Key Laboratory of Toxicology and Medical Countermeasures, Beijing 100850, China; Beijing Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Beijing 100850, China. Electronic address:

Unlabelled: Brown and beige adipose tissues play key roles in adaptive thermogenesis, which is essential for homoiotherms to maintain core temperature under cold exposure. PPARγ is a transcriptional regulator critical for brown adipose tissue (BAT) recruitment and white adipose tissue (WAT) browning. Here we evaluated the impact of PPARγ activation on thermogenic activity in C57BL/6 mice under thermo-neutral and 4 °C cold environment, and revealed the regulating mechanism and metabolic basis.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed risk factors in 73 children undergoing haploidentical stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT) for high-risk acute leukemia, using statistical analyses to evaluate outcomes.
  • - Results showed that a higher number of nucleated cells in the graft led to significantly faster neutrophil and platelet engraftment times, especially in younger children.
  • - Overall survival rates varied based on the type of leukemia and treatment stage, with higher nucleated cell counts correlated with improved outcomes and reduced transplant-related mortality.

Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as key players in various human biological processes, including tumorigenesis. Here, we investigated the roles of miR-375 in the pathogenesis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

Methods: We performed quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) to detect miR-375 expression in OSCC tissues and corresponding normal oral epithelial tissues and analyze the correlation of miR-375 expression with OSCC metastasis and patient's survival.

Elevated IL-37 levels in the plasma of patients with severe coronary artery calcification.

J Geriatr Cardiol

May 2017

Department of Cardiology, Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University; Beijing Institute of Heart, Lung and Blood Vessel Disease, the Key Laboratory of Remodelling-related Cardiovascular Disease, Ministry of Education, Beijing, China.

Background: Coronary artery calcification (CAC) is a predictor of cardiovascular events and plaque burden and is closely associated with chronic inflammation. Interleukin (IL)-37 is a newly discovered member of the IL-1 family and is considered an anti-inflammatory cytokine. Our recent study on mice indicated that IL-37 could attenuate atherosclerosis and vascular calcification, which suggests that IL-37 could be associated with the development of atherosclerosis and related diseases.

Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) activity in China was surveyed to assess its current status. A record number of HCTs (21 884: 16 631 allogeneic (76%) and 5253 autologous (24%)) were reported by 76 centers in China between 1 January 2008 and 30 June 2016. HCT trends included continued growth in transplant activity, a continued rapid increase in haploidentical donors (HID), and slower growth for unrelated donors, matched-related donors (MRD) and cord blood transplantation (CBT).

The aim of the present study was to explore the clinical and histopathological characteristics and treatment of patients with bullous pemphigoid (BP) that initially manifested as non-bullous lesions and provide information for early diagnosis and improved treatment. Medical records of 491 cases of BP were collected. The clinical and histopathological characteristics, treatment and outcomes of patients who initially presented with non-bullous lesions (prodromal BP, PBP) were analyzed and compared with those from patients who initially presented with bullous lesions (classical BP, cBP).

Networked 21st century society, globalization, and communications technologies are paralleled by the rise of electromagnetic energy intensity in our environments and the growing pressure of the environtome on human biology and health. The latter is the entire complement of environmental factors, including the electromagnetic energy and the technologies that generate them, enacting on the digital citizen in the new century. Electromagnetic pulse (EMP) irradiation might have serious damaging effects not only on electronic equipment but also in the whole organism and reproductive health, through nonthermal effects and oxidative stress.

As a widely used nanomaterial in daily life, silver nanomaterials may cause great concern to female reproductive system as they are found to penetrate the blood-placental barrier and gain access to the ovary. However, it is largely unknown about how silver nanomaterials influence ovarian physiology and functions such as hormone production. This study performs in vitro toxicology study of silver nanomaterials, focusing especially on cytotoxicity and steroidogenesis and explores their underlying mechanisms.
