The Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) and the Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMC) have developed together Clinical Practice Guidelines (GPC) on the management of people affected by tuberculosis (TB) resistant to drugs with activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. These clinical practice guidelines include the latest updates of the SEPAR regulations for the diagnosis and treatment of drug-resistant TB from 2017 to 2020 as the starting point. The methodology included asking relevant clinical questions based on PICO methodology, a literature search focusing on each question, and a systematic and comprehensive evaluation of the evidence, with a summary of this evidence for each question.

Background: SARS-CoV2 infection causes high morbidity and mortality in lung transplant (LT) recipients. Vaccination with messenger RNA vaccines has been shown to play a key role in controlling the severity of infection in the general population. The aim of our study is to analyze whether vaccination with 2 doses of SARS-Cov2 provides immunity in LT recipients.

(1) Background: The confinement of the population in response to the COVID-19 pandemic was related to an increased risk of suffering from anxiety and/or depression in previous studies with other populations. (2) Methods: descriptive study using surveys (Goldberg Anxiety and Depression Scale) with 808 participants over 18 years of age between 14 and 20 of May 2020 during the confinement due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Spain. (3) Results: 63% of the participants were at risk of suffering from anxiety and 64.

Background: Autologous serum eye drops, produced by separation of liquid and cellular components of the patient's blood, contain biological nutrients present in natural tears. The aim of this study was to analyse changes in conjunctival impression cytology with transfer and both lachrymal stability and flow tests in patients with dry eye disease after treatment with autologous serum eye drops.
Materials And Methods: Conjunctival impression cytology and lachrymal flow and stability tests, namely Schirmer's and tear break-up time, were prospectively studied in patients with dry eye disease before and 1 month after treatment with autologous serum eye drops.

Background And Objective: Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a mental disorder that is difficult to diagnose, causes a lot of suffering and is more prevalent in dermatology patients than in the general population. Our objective was to screen for possible cases of BDD in patients with acne and to determine the prevalence according to DSM-IV and DSM-5 criteria, as well as to analyse the relationship between dermatological and sociodemographic variables.
Methods: A total of 245 patients diagnosed with acne in 11 dermatological centres in Spain were included in the study by members of the Aragon Psychodermatology Research Group and Spanish Research Group of Psychiatric Dermatology.

Immunoglobulin M (IgM) monoclonal gammopathies show considerable variability, involving three different stages of presentation: IgM monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (IgM-MGUS), asymptomatic Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (AWM), and symptomatic WM (SWM). Despite recent findings about the genomic and transcriptomic characteristics of such disorders, we know little about the causes of this clinical heterogeneity or the mechanisms involved in the progression from indolent to symptomatic forms. To clarify these matters, we have performed a gene expression and mutational study in a well-characterized cohort of 69 patients, distinguishing between the three disease presentations in an attempt to establish the relationship with the clinical and biological features of the patients.

IL-8 promotes cancer cell growth, survival, angiogenesis, and metastasis in several tumors. Herein, we investigated the sources of IL-8 production in multiple myeloma (MM) and its potential roles in MM pathogenesis. We found that bone marrow cells from patients with MM secreted higher amounts of IL-8 than healthy donors.

Unlabelled: Identifying additional genetic alterations associated with poor prognosis in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is still a challenge.
Aims: To characterize the presence of additional DNA copy number alterations (CNAs) in children and adults with ALL by whole-genome oligonucleotide array (aCGH) analysis, and to identify their associations with clinical features and outcome. Array-CGH was carried out in 265 newly diagnosed ALLs (142 children and 123 adults).

The introduction of Rituximab has improved the outcome and survival rates of Burkitt lymphoma (BL). However, early relapse and refractoriness are current limitations of BL treatment and new biological factors affecting the outcome of these patients have not been explored. This study aimed to identify the presence of genomic changes that could predict the response to new therapies in BL.

Background: Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with laronidase, (recombinant human α-L-iduronidase; Aldurazyme) is the primary treatment option for patients with attenuated mucopolysaccharidosis type I (MPS I). This study examined the effect of early ERT on clinical manifestations.
Methods: This multinational, retrospective case series abstracted data from records of 20 patients with Hurler-Scheie syndrome within nine sibships that included older siblings treated with laronidase after the development of significant clinical symptoms, and younger siblings treated before significant symptomatology.

Gait disturbance results in an increase in the risk of falls in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The falls are events that might be related to an increase in the number of fractures, loss of mobility, being bedridden, early institutionalization, and increased use of medication. Therefore, the reduction in the number of falls is important for the maintenance of the functional independence of the patients as well as for the prevention of sequelae resulting from those events.

Background: Parkinson's disease mainly affects the elderly population causing a progressive functional disability with motor, psychic, and cognitive deterioration.
Objective: This study was carried out to evaluate disability caused by Parkinson's disease by analyzing the median time to reach Hoehn and Yahr stage III and to investigate predictor variables based on a 20-year longitudinal follow-up study.
Methods: We examined 273 patients with Parkinson's disease recruited between 1978 and 1998.

Introduction: There is growing evidence of the role of serum uric acid (SUA) as a risk factor for cardiovascular and renal disease. We analysed the association between baseline SUA and overall mortality in a cohort of elderly patients followed prospectively for 5 years.
Patients And Methods: Eighty clinically stable patients, median age 83 years (range 69-97), 31.
Background: This study aimed to evaluate the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and burden on family caregivers of chronic dialysis patients and to analyze which factors were associated with it.
Methods: A cross-sectional multicentric study was carried out with 221 patient/caregiver pairs. General population Short Form 36 (SF-36) norms were used to estimate gender and age standardized physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS) scores.

In a prospective study we evaluated in 48 patients with primary ovarian carcinoma the prognostic value of the preoperative circulating serum levels of CA 125 and TAG-72. Serum levels of CA 125 were above the cutoff level of 35 U/ml in 68% of patients, TAG-72 levels were higher than 6 U/ml in 50% of patients, while the simultaneous use of the two markers increased the sensitivity to 75%. Pretreatment CA 125 and TAG-72 levels were significantly lower (p < 0.

Traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the abdominal aorta is a rare pathology. To date aortography, CT and ultrasonography are the only diagnostic tools available for establishing the diagnosis. We report a case in which the presence of a continuous bidirectional flow in the neck of the pseudoaneurysm, as seen with duplex Doppler ultrasonography, confirmed the diagnosis.
