Background: Severe dry eyes often require surgical intervention. Submandibular salivary and minor salivary gland transplantation are options for refractory dry eyes but have limitations. We innovatively designed an insular infraorbital neurovascular pedicle labial salivary gland transplantation (IINPLSGT) and validated its feasibility and safety through anatomical studies.

Unintended pregnancy for female patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) raises the discussion of treatment choices due to the teratogenicity of tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). We report 51 accidental pregnant CML chronic phase (CP) patients with TKI withdrawal immediately after pregnancy from December 2010 to February 2024 to observe the effect of short exposure to TKI on the fetus and the infant outcomes. 59 pregnancies resulted in 100% normal childbirth without birth abnormalities.

Emergency Medicine Department of Anesthesia Emergency and Critical Care Diagnosis and Treatment Center, Honghui Hospital Xi'an Jiaotong University, No. 555, Youyi East Road, Nanshaomen, Beilin District, Xi'an City, 710000, Shaanxi Province, China.

This study aims to observe the hemostatic and anti-inflammatory effects of intravenous administration of tranexamic acid (TXA) in dual segment posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF). The data of 53 patients with lumbar disease treated with double-segment PLIF were included in this study. The observation group was received a single-dose intravenous of TXA (1 g/100 mL) 15 min before skin incision after general anesthesia.

Intravenous application of tranexamic acid (TXA) in posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) can effectively reduce blood loss without affecting coagulation function. However, it has not been reported whether preoperative use of anticoagulants may affect the efficacy of TXA in PLIF. The purpose of this study is to observe the effect of preoperative use of anticoagulants on coagulation indicators and blood loss after PLIF receiving intravenous unit dose TXA.

Background: Percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) is a common treatment for osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF). Perioperative bleeding is usually rare, so there are few reports of shock. However, we developed shock after treating a case of OVCF of the 5th thoracic vertebra with PVP.

There are few reports of intravenous unit-dose tranexamic acid (TXA) on the relationship between visible blood loss (VBL) and hidden blood loss (HBL) in posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF). Therefore, the objective of this randomized, prospective, double-blind, single center study was to investigate the effect of intravenous unit-dose TXA on VBL and HBL in patients who underwent PLIF. Among 100 patients, 11 were excluded due to failue to comply with the study, 1 was excluded due to non-conpliance with the study, and 88 were eligible for inclusion in the study.

Background: Tranexamic acid (TXA) has been used in posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) and reduces blood loss. However, it has not been reported whether it will continue to affect postoperative red blood cells (RBC), hemoglobin (HB), hematocrit (HCT), C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). The purpose of this study was to observed the above indicators at different time after PLIF with unit dose intravenous (iv) TXA.

Background: Delayed arterial symptomatic epidural hematoma (SEH) on the 14 day after posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) is rare but it may lead to severe complications if not identified and treated in a timely manner. After diagnosis of the current case, early surgical removal of the hematoma and strict hemostasis treatment was accomplished. This case report highlights the importance of swift diagnosis and treatment in SEH patients.

Background: A patient with type III Kummell's disease had a ruptured posterior cortex of the fractured vertebral body, which caused spinal cord compression. An open surgery was considered the best choice of operation. However, the patient and her family refused open surgery and instead demanded a minimally invasive surgical treatment such as percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP).

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Key Laboratory of Pulmonary Diseases of National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, 430022, People's Republic of China.

Background: The role of inducible costimulator (ICOS) signaling in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has not been fully elucidated.

Methods: We compared the percentages of ICOS T cells and ICOS regulatory T (Treg) cells in CD4 T cells and CD4CD25FOXP3 Tregs, respectively, in the peripheral blood of smokers with or without COPD to those in healthy controls. We further characterized their phenotypes using flow cytometry.

Background: Cervical nerve root cysts are rare and easily missed or misdiagnosed in clinical practice. Although conventional surgery is effective for cervical nerve root cysts, it is limited by the small surgical field of view and operating range, relatively difficult procedure, and incomplete cyst resection. Microscope-assisted magnification of the surgical field of vision reduces the difficulty and ensures complete cyst resection.

Background: A ruptured drainage tube which remains in the incision is a rare surgical complication. The usual mode of retrieval is to detach the suture and explore the pre-existing incisional wound. However, spinal endoscopy provides an alternative method for successful removal, avoiding the enlargement of the surgical wound.

Introduction: Oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most commonly occurring devastating tumours worldwide, including in China. To date, the standard care of patients with stage IV OSCC is systemic chemotherapy and palliative care, which results in poor prognosis. However, no consensus has been established regarding the role of radiotherapy in targeting the primary tumour in patients with stage IVa OSCC.

Recent studies have illustrated the role of aberrant regulatory interactions in the mediation of malignant phenotypes of cancer cells, which could potentially provide novel therapeutic targets to limit the destructive recurrence and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Herein, we clarify the oncogenic role of the long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) distal-less homeobox 6 antisense 1 (DLX6-AS1) in HCC in vivo and in vitro. To this end, we knocked down lncRNA DLX6-AS1 and manipulated the expression of miR-513c to characterize their effects in HCC cell viability, migration, invasion, and apoptosis.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of lncRNA KCNQ1OT1 on HCC and to explore the possible underlying mechanisms. The expression levels of KCNQ1OT1, miR-149 and S1PR1 were detected by qRT-PCR assay. A dual luciferase reporter assay was used to detect the interaction between KCNQ1OT1 and miR-149, as well as miR-149 and S1PR1.

Background: Most surgeons now accept lymphadenectomy as an essential feature of the operative treatment of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Three-field and two-field lymphadenectomy are two of the most popular excision scopes among surgeons. Over recent years, researchers have performed a range of comparative studies regarding these techniques, although the conclusions remain inconsistent.

RNA editing is a widespread post-transcriptional mechanism to introduce single nucleotide changes to RNA in human cancers. Here, we characterized the global RNA editing profiles of 373 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and 50 adjacent normal liver samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and revealed that most editing events tend to occur in minor percentage of samples with moderate editing degrees (20-30%). Moreover, these RNA editing prefer to be A-to-I RNA editing in protein coding genes, especially in 3'UTR regions.
