Article Synopsis
  • - Zoledronic acid (ZOL), used to treat osteoporosis, showed that the generic version Yigu® is clinically as effective as the original Aclasta® in Chinese postmenopausal women.
  • - The study involved 458 women, comparing the bone mineral density changes after 12 months of treatment between the two ZOL formulations, revealing no significant differences in effectiveness.
  • - This evaluation supports the use of Yigu® in clinical settings, having proven its safety and efficacy comparable to Aclasta® for treating osteoporosis.

Aim: Oral risedronate is effective in the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis when administered daily, weekly, or monthly. In this 1-year, randomized, double-blind, multicenter study we compared the weekly 35-mg and daily 5-mg risedronate dosing regimens in the treatment of Chinese postmenopausal women with osteoporosis or osteopenia.

Methods: Postmenopausal women with primary osteoporosis or osteopenia were randomly assigned to the weekly group or daily group (n=145 for each) that received oral risedronate 35 mg once a week or 5 mg daily, respectively, for 1 year.

Three-dimensional cell culture techniques can better reflect the in vivo characteristics of tumor cells compared with traditional monolayer cultures. Compared with their 2D counterparts, 3D-cultured tumor cells showed enhanced resistance to the cytotoxic T cell-mediated immune response. However, it remains unclear whether 3D-cultured tumor cells have an enhanced resistance to NK cell cytotoxicity.

Deep brain stimulation is an alternate treatment strategy for intractable epilepsy. The effects of low- and high-frequency electrical stimulation to the substantia nigra pars reticulata (SNr) of different sides on chemically induced neocortical seizure were investigated in the present study. After neocortical seizure was induced by ferric chloride injection into the left sensorimotor cortex, SNr was stimulated ipsilaterally, contralaterally, or bilaterally at frequencies of 130 or 20 Hz in rats.

Objective: To explore the joint diagnostic value of four temperature sensation tests in elderly patients with type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Methods: Thermal sensory analyzer-II were applied to measure cool sensation (CS), warm sensation (WS), cold pain sensation (CP)and heat pain sensation (HP) of 308 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes. Logistic regression model was adopted to create the new variable Temp4 from four temperature sensation tests to diagnose type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Glioma is the most common and aggressive tumor in human central nervous system. MMP-13 plays an important role in tumor aggressive process for it can degrade the extracellular matrix of basement membranes. The present study was to investigate the expression of MMP-13 in clinical glioma samples and its association with clinicopathological characteristics as well as survival of patients.

Aim: To explore the protective mechanism of LPS pretreatment in a rat model of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Methods: Sixty-six male Spraque-Dawley rats were randomly divided into a sham group (n=22), a control group (n=22) and a LPS group (n=22).The control group and the LPS group were subjected to focal cerebral isehmia induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) for 2 hours.

Blast-induced traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been the predominant cause of neurotrauma in current military conflicts, and it is also emerging as a potential threat in civilian terrorism. The etiology of TBI, however, is poorly understood. Further study on the mechanisms and treatment of blast injury is urgently needed.

Objective: To analyse the temporal and spatial characteristics of traumatic brain injury and the distribution of combined injuries in the Wenchuan earthquake, and describe the treatment opportunities and preferences for therapy.

Methods: The diagnosis and treatment of 92 patients with traumatic brain injury who survived the massive earthquake (magnitude 8) in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province, on 12 May 2008 were systematically analysed.

Results: The patients all came from the plains northwest of Chengdu city.
