DNA methylation and whole-genome transcription analysis in CD4 T cells from systemic lupus erythematosus patients with or without renal damage.

Background: Lupus nephritis (LN) is the most common cause of kidney injury in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients and is associated with increased mortality. DNA methylation, one of the most important epigenetic modifications, has been reported as a key player in the pathogenesis of SLE. Hence, our article aimed to explore DNA methylation in CD4 T cells from LNs to identify additional potential biomarkers and pathogenic genes involved in the progression of LN.

Efficacy and Safety of AbobotulinumtoxinA for the Treatment of Glabellar Lines in Chinese Patients: A Pivotal, Phase 3, Randomized, Double-Blind and Open-Label Phase Study.

Background: Various botulinumtoxinA formulations are approved for glabellar lines treatment worldwide, including abobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport).

Objectives: Assess abobotulinumtoxinA superiority versus placebo and non-inferiority versus active comparator (onabotulinumtoxinA; Botox), for the treatment of Chinese patients with moderate/severe glabellar lines.

Methods: Phase 3, randomized study (NCT02450526) comprising a double-blind (cycle 1) phase and an open-label (cycles 2-5) phase.

Fracture Mapping of Both-Column Acetabular Fractures.

Objectives: To characterize the location and frequency of the fracture lines and comminution zones of both-column fractures using fracture mapping.

Methods: Both-column fractures were retrospectively reviewed in 4 Level 1 trauma centers. Mimics software was used to reconstruct the both-column fractures and simulate the fracture reduction.

Optimal Implantation Site of Orthodontic Micro-Screws in the Mandibular Anterior Region Based on CBCT.

To determine the optimal implantation site of orthodontic micro-screws based on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) analysis in the mandibular anterior tooth region, provide a theoretical basis for orthodontic implant placement and improve post-implantation stability. Forty patients who underwent CBCT scanning were selected for this study. CBCT scanning was applied to measure the interradicular distance, buccolingual dimension, labial cortical bone thickness and lingual cortical bone thickness between mandibular anterior teeth at planes 2, 4, 6, and 8 mm below the alveolar ridge crest.

Generation and application of patient-derived xenograft models in pancreatic cancer research.

Objective: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma cancer (PDAC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death worldwide. Hence, the development of effective anti-PDAC therapies is urgently required. Patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models are useful models for developing anti-cancer therapies and screening drugs for precision medicine.

Cell cycle and complement inhibitors may be specific for treatment of spinal cord injury in aged and young mice: Transcriptomic analyses.

Previous studies have reported age-specific pathological and functional outcomes in young and aged patients suffering spinal cord injury, but the mechanisms remain poorly understood. In this study, we examined mice with spinal cord injury. Gene expression profiles from the Gene Expression Omnibus database (accession number GSE93561) were used, including spinal cord samples from 3 young injured mice (2-3-months old, induced by Impactor at Th9 level) and 3 control mice (2-3-months old, no treatment), as well as 2 aged injured mice (15-18-months old, induced by Impactor at Th9 level) and 2 control mice (15-18-months old, no treatment).

T category of non-small cell lung cancer invading the fissure to the adjacent lobe.

Background: Dispute arises in the tumor category of non-small cell lung cancer invading the fissure to the adjacent lobe. The purpose of this study is to determine the long-term prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer with such an invasion and to propose an appropriate T category.

Methods: In total, 53 cases of non-small cell lung cancer invading the fissure to the adjacent lobe (fissure group) were identified in patients who underwent pulmonary resection from 1997 to 2014.

Chest wall resection for non-small cell lung cancer: A case-matched study of postoperative pulmonary function and quality of life.

Background: To assess the pulmonary function and quality of life (QOL) after chest wall resection for non-small cell lung cancer.

Material And Methods: One hundred and thirty-five patients (cases) who underwent pulmonary resection with chest wall removal were identified from January 1997 to December 2015. Propensity score matching (1:3) was applied to balance known confounders for pulmonary function and QOL between the cases and the control group who underwent pulmonary resection without chest wall invasion.

Methods: A systematic search of the Medline, EMBASE and Cochrane's library databases was conducted for the randomized controlled trials published till February 2015 that compared the effects of fish oil supplementation with a control diet in women during pregnancy.

Results: Twenty-one studies comprising 10,802 pregnant women were included.

Comparison of intramedullary fibular allograft with locking compression plate versus shoulder hemi-arthroplasty for repair of osteoporotic four-part proximal humerus fracture: Consecutive, prospective, controlled, and comparative study.

Objectives: To compare the outcomes of intramedullary fibular allograft (IFA) with locking compression plates (LCPs) versus shoulder hemi-arthroplasty (HA) in osteoporotic four-part proximal humeral fracture (PHF).

Methods: Between January 2010 and December 2012, totally 60 cases with osteoporotic four-part PHF were enrolled in this study and were randomly separated into IFA and LCPs group and HA group (n=30). Additionally, surgery indexes for patients in the two groups, such as Constant-Murley score (CMS), the Disability of Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) score, individual subject evaluation of the outcomes, plain X-ray, and computer tomography (CT) scanning were evaluated and compared.

Background: The effects of gestational supplementation with fish oil on risks for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), and pre-eclampsia (PE) have not been confirmed. In this study, a meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the effect of fish oil supplementation on these gestational complications.

Material And Methods: Randomized controlled human trials that investigated the effects of fish oil supplementation in pregnant women were identified by a systematic search of Medline, Embase, and Cochrane's Library, and references of related reviews and studies up to December 2014.

Clinical outcomes of allograft with locking compression plates for elderly four-part proximal humerus fractures.

Background: The aim of this study is to explore the clinical outcomes of anatomical allograft or fibula shaft augmentation with locking compression plates (LCPs) in elderly patients with four-part proximal humeral fracture (PHF).

Methods: A total of 22 elderly patients with four-part PHF underwent allograft augmentation with LCPs for treatment. Among them, 7 cases received anatomical allograft and 15 patients received fibula shaft.

Validation of the simplified Chinese (Mainland) version of the Disability of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire (DASH-CHNPLAGH).

Background: We developed a simplified Chinese version of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire (shorthand for DASH-CHNPLAGH) by conducting cross-cultural adaptation and evaluating its reliability and validity.

Methods: Both the forward and back translations were performed by language officers and medical professionals from different fields to translate the original DASH version into the DASH-CHNPLAGH version with minimized culture discrepancies. A total of 300 patients with upper extremity disorders were recruited to complete two DASH-CHNPLAGH questionnaires with 3-week test interval time.

Amplification, overexpression, and somatic mutation of the HER2 gene have been reported to play a critical role in tumorigenesis of various cancers. The HER2 H878Y mutation was recently reported in 11% of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. However, its functional impact on the HER2 protein and its role in tumorigenesis has not been determined.
