Neural processes of auditory perception in Heschl's gyrus for upcoming acoustic stimuli in humans.

Hear Res

March 2020

Aix Marseille Université, Inserm, Institut des Neurosciences des Systemes, Marseille, France; Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute, Epilepsy Center, Cleveland, OH, USA.

In the natural environment, attended sounds tend to be perceived much better than unattended sounds. However, the physiological mechanism of how our neural systems direct the state of perceptual attention to prepare for the detection of upcoming acoustic stimuli before auditory stream segregation remains elusive. In this study, based on the direct intracerebral recordings from the auditory cortex in eight epileptic patients with refractory focal seizures, we investigated the neural processing of auditory attention by comparing the local field potentials before 'attentional' and 'distracted' conditions.

The Mitochondrial Protein MAVS Stabilizes p53 to Suppress Tumorigenesis.

Cell Rep

January 2020

Department of Genetic Engineering, Beijing Institute of Biotechnology, Beijing 100850, China. Electronic address:

Recent reports have shown the critical role of the mitochondrial antiviral signaling (MAVS) protein in virus-induced apoptosis, but the involvement of MAVS in tumorigenesis is still poorly understood. Herein, we report that MAVS is a key regulator of p53 activation and is critical for protecting against tumorigenesis. We find that MAVS promotes p53-dependent cell death in response to DNA damage.

Introduction: Several studies have reported that the V89L and TA repeat polymorphisms [(TA)n] of the SRD5A2 gene were associated with SRD5A2 activity. The activity of dihydrotestosterone, which is converted from testosterone by SRD5A2, is responsible for sebum secretion and the formation of acne. We hypothesized that abnormalities in SRD5A2 action could contribute to the formation of acne.

Background: Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) has become the preferred method to diagnose pancreatic masses due to its minimally invasive approach and diagnostic accuracy. Many studies have shown that rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) improves diagnostic yield by 10-30%; however, more recent studies have demonstrated effective diagnostic accuracy rates without ROSE. Our study aims to examine whether the current standard of performing ROSE after each FNA pass adds diagnostic value during EUS-guided FNA of pancreatic masses.
