The mouse is an optimal animal model for kidney transplantation. Recent reports suggest that application of poloxamer 407, a thermosensitive in situ gel, during the sutureless technique significantly increases animal survival, compared to traditional methods. However, further improvement of this technology is greatly needed but remains unexplored.

Fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) play an important role in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) through participating in joint tissue inflammation and joint damage. MicroRNAs are a kind of small non-coding RNAs that can regulate gene expression in the transcription level to affect cell behaviors. This study intended to investigate the expression of miR-19 in FLS from RA patients and related mechanism.

Am J Transl Res

November 2016

State Key Laboratory of Military Stomatology, Department of Orthodontics, School of Stomatology, Fourth Military Medical University Xi'an 710032, Shaanxi, PR China.

miR-101 is significantly downregulated in various human cancers, including oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). However, the role of miR-101 in OSCC has not been elucidated. In this study, miR-101 lowly expressed in OSCC tissues and cell lines compared with that in adjacent normal tissues and human normal oral keratinocyte cells.

Objective: In this report, we present our experience with reconstruction of the skin defects on the dorsum of the digits using multiple flaps.

Methods: Between November 2010 and March 2013, 45 patients with dorsal digital defects underwent reconstruction using homodigital dorsal digital fasciocutaneous flap (n = 17), heterodigital dorsal digital fasciocutaneous flap (n = 14), dorsal metacarpal artery fasciocutaneous flap (n = 8) and free venous flaps (n = 6). The average flap size was 1.

Intermaxillary fixation (IMF) screws were first introduced to achieve IMF as a kind of bone borne appliance for jaw fractures in 1989. Because this method can overcome many disadvantages associated with tooth borne appliance, IMF screws have been popularly used for jaw fractures since then. From March 2011 to February 2014, we treated 168 cases with single or multiple jaw fractures by open reduction and a total of 705 IMF screws were intraoperatively applied in all the cases to achieve IMF and maintain dental occlusion as an adjuvant to open reduction.

The interleukin (IL)-23/IL-17A/IL-22 cytokine axis plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, wherein IL-22 effects on epidermal alternations by inhibiting differentiation and inducing keratinocyte proliferation. In this study, we investigated effects of curcumin on IL-22-induced proliferation in a human keratinocyte cell line (HaCaT) in vitro experiment. The HaCaT cells growth was measured by a Cell Counting Kit-8.

Upregulation of miR-195 enhances the radiosensitivity of breast cancer cells through the inhibition of BCL-2.

Int J Clin Exp Med

August 2015

Department of Radiation Oncology, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Tumor Hospital of Yunnan Province Kunming, China.

Aims: To investigate the effect of miR-195 overexpression on radiosensitivity and the relevant molecular mechanisms in breast cancer.

Methods: miR-195 mimics were transfected to breast cancer cell line MCF-7 by gene transfection; miR-195 expression level in cells was determined by real-time quantitative PCR. Cellular viability was observed by colony formation assay after the cells were irradiated with X-ray.

Heatstroke not only directly induces cell injury, but also causes large amounts of inflammatory mediators release and cells with extensive biological activities to induce a systemic inflammatory response and immune dysfunction. This study aimed to observe the effects of JAK2 inhibitor AG490 on the brain injury and inflammatory responses of rats with systemic heatstroke. Under the light microscope, the hippocampus tissues of rat with heatstroke were edema and apoptotic rate was increased.

Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) data are increasingly common and widely accepted in clinical investigations of symptoms. Agreements or differences regarding Doctor-Report Outcomes (DROs) VS PROs data are unclear. In this study, we conducted a clinical trial and investigated the agreement levels of DROs VS PROs in symptoms of diabetics.

Background: Osteopontin (OPN) is overexpressed in many human tumors and involved in promotion of cancer cells by regulating various facets of tumor progression such as cell proliferation, invasion and metastasis. To understand roles of OPN in tumor progression of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) or develop molecular marker for prognosis and treatment of LSCC, we thus explore biological function of OPN and correlation with p53 in LSCC.

Methods: The expression of OPN and p53 in tumor tissues of LSCC was determined immunohistochemically in both LSCC and adjacent normal tissues.

Purpose: To investigate the effects and mechanism of pollen typhae on spinal cord injury (SCI) in rats.

Methods: The SCI model was built and animals were randomly divided into three groups according to different concentrations of pollen typhae. Protein, mRNA, and fluorescence expression levels of light-chain-3 (LC-3) and Beclin-1 were determined by western blotting (WB), real-time PCR and immunofluorescence, along as Akt and mammalian target of rapamycin (mROT) by WB.

Aggressive angiomyxoma, mostly originating in the female pelvis and peritoneum or in the male analogous sites, is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm characterized with infiltrative growth to adjacent tissue and local recurrence after primary excision. Herein, we report a case of aggressive angiomyxoma of maxilla in a 60-year-old male patient for its rarity. The patient presented with a one-year history of progressively enlarging maxillary mass on left side.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, non-coding RNAs that can act as oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes in human cancer. Increasing evidences indicate that deregulation of miRNAs contributes to the hepatocarcinogenesis. In this study, we demonstrated that the levels of miR-543 were dramatically increased in clinical hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues and cell lines.

TGF-β is an important biological mediator. It regulates a wide range of functions including embryonic development, wound healing, organ development, immuno-modulation, and cancer progression. Interestingly, TGF-β is known to inhibit cell growth in benign cells but promote progression in cancer cells, a phenomenon known as TGF-β paradox.

It has been reported that changes in Wnt5a expression are closely related to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development, while decreased or abnormal β-catenin expression may promote the invasion and metastasis of tumor cells. In this study, the roles and clinical significance of Wnt-5a and β-catenin expression were analyzed in primary HCC. Real-time PCR (RT-PCR) analysis of Wnt-5a mRNA expression was performed in 26 fresh HCC samples and the corresponding para-carcinoma tissues.
