Hypertrophic non-union, after an isolated fibular fracture with intact tibia, is an extremely uncommon complication. The aim of the current study is to present an infrequent case of hypertrophic non-union after an isolated fracture in the proximal diaphysis of fibula which was treated surgically. A 23-year-old male patient presented to our hospital with persistent pain on the lateral aspect of his right leg.

Multinodular and vacuolating neuronal tumors (MVNTs) of the cerebrum are rare, seizure-related, low-grade tumors of the central nervous system that usually affect young adults. First described by Huse et al. in 2013, these neoplasms are usually located within the deep cortical ribbon and the superficial white matter and have a characteristic cytoarchitecture of cells with neuronal and glial differentiation that form multiple nodules with conspicuous vacuolation.

The purpose of this study was to demonstrate a rare case of pelvic ring injury in a healthy man without a history of high energy damage. A 43-year-old man presented to the emergency with local pain in pubic symphysis and difficulty walking after horseback riding. The patient did not report any fall or injury during this recreational activity, and apart from tachycardia, he was hemodynamically stable with normal blood pressure.

Introduction The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of transferring the pectoralis minor (PM) in its entirety and assess its relationship with the musculocutaneous nerves (MCN) and axillary nerves (AXN). Methods Sixteen fresh transthoracic cadaver specimens were used. After PM transfer, the following measures were obtained: (a) the distance between the coracoid process (CP) and the subscapularis insertion on the lesser tubercle during external, neutral, and internal rotation.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) avulsion fractures without any concomitant injuries are extremely rare in skeletally mature patients and sporadically reported in the literature. Such injuries are more likely to be associated with tibial plateau fractures, other knee ligament ruptures, distal femoral fractures, or knee dislocations. In this article, a case of a 55-year-old male, who suffered a combined displaced ACL-posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion fracture, without any related injuries, is reported.

Split hand/foot malformation is a heterogeneous congenital disorder mainly presented with a median cleft of hands or/and feet. It can be associated with long bone aplasia, a syndrome also known as split hand/foot syndrome with long bone deficiency (SHFLD), which is a very rare condition. We report a very rare case of a male fetus with SHFLD syndrome combined with fibular aplasia, tibial campomelia, and oligosyndactyly (FATCO) syndrome.

Hip dislocations are traumatic injuries that commonly derive from high energy trauma such as traffic accidents or falls from great heights. In addition, these injuries present an increased incidence after partial or total hip arthroplasty in elderly patients. Associate literature dictates that in case of a native hip dislocation, early reduction is crucial for avoidance of further complications such as avascular necrosis of the femoral head and post traumatic arthritis.

Introduction Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) is considered one of the leading causes of poor bone quality. It may also be related to severe muscular weakness, especially in the elderly, which leads to frequent falls. Thus, VDD might be associated with fragility fractures of the hip, wrist, and spine in this age category.

Post-traumatic compartment syndrome in the lower extremity has been commonly associated with fractures of the tibia. Only in rare cases, this critical condition might be related to isolated fibular fractures. We present a rare case of delayed onset of acute compartment syndrome after a solitary fracture of the fibula.

Carpometacarpal (CMC) dislocations without associated fractures of the adjacent bones are extremely infrequent injuries. Dorsal or volar dislocations occur after high-energy injuries and may lead to early post-traumatic arthritis and carpal instability. The purpose of this study was to present a case of dorsal dislocation of both the fourth and fifth CMC joints that were treated with closed reduction and casting.

Aims: Administration of insulin degludec and liraglutide (IDegLira) correlates to fasting lipid profile changes of diabetic patients, while data concerning apoB-containing lipoprotein subclasses and HDL lipidome are scarce. We evaluated its effect on fasting lipid parameters, apolipoproteins, apoB-containing lipoprotein subclasses and HDL lipidome in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: Sixty three patients with HbA1c > 7 % on oral glucose-lowering drugs received either IDegLira or insulin degludec for 3 months.

Actinic keratoses (AKs) are the most common neoplastic lesions and are recognized as a precursor to squamous cell skin cancer. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a therapeutic option for multiple AKs in line with field cancerization. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of PDT on patients with AKs using a meta-analysis, in order to evaluate the possible superiority of one treatment over the others.

Greece introduced a 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) into the infant national immunization program in 2010 (3 + 1 schedule until June 2019). Since 2015, PCV13 has been recommended for adults aged 19-64 years with comorbidities and adults ≥65 years sequentially with 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23). We examined pneumococcal serotype distribution among Greek adults aged ≥19 years hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) during November 2017-April 2019.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate if there is a bias in bone mineral density measurements among major densitometric techniques across multiple skeletal sites.
Methods: In 25 advanced ankylosing spondylitis patients, bone mineral density measurements were acquired in the lumbar spine, the hip, and the forearm.
Results: In total, 60% of patients had a bone mineral density Z-score of -2 or less at one or more skeletal sites.

The changes in the composition and function of gut microbiota affect the metabolic functions (which are mediated by microbial effects) in patients with obesity, resulting in significant physiological regulation in these patients. Most of the studies emphasize that the Western-style diet (high fat and low vegetable consumption) leads to significant changes in the intestinal microbiome in individuals with metabolic syndrome. A deeper understanding of the profiles of gut microbes will contribute to the development of new therapeutic strategies for the management of metabolic syndrome and other metabolic diseases and related disorders.

Introduction: Physician adherence, or lack therefore, to diabetes care and follow-up guidelines may be linked to the rates of achieving suboptimal glycaemic, blood pressure and lipid targets in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). In this cross-sectional study we evaluated physician adherence to the patient follow-up protocol (PFP) of the 2017 Hellenic Diabetes Association (HDA) guidelines and also assessed glycated haemoglobin (HbA), blood pressure and lipid control achievement rates in the routine care setting in Greece.
Methods: Eligible subjects were adults with T2DM receiving oral hypoglycaemic agents (OHAs) for ≥ 1 year who had ≥ 2 HbA measurements in the previous year and an HbA target < 7%.
