Antiangiogenesis therapies targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) have revolutionized the treatment of neovascular ocular diseases, including neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). Compelling evidence has implicated the vital role of complement system dysregulation in AMD pathogenesis, implying it as a potential therapeutic strategy for geographic atrophy in dry AMD and to enhance the efficacy of anti-VEGF monotherapies in nAMD. This study reports the preclinical assessment and phase 1 clinical outcomes of a bispecific fusion protein, efdamrofusp alfa (code: IBI302), which is capable of neutralizing both VEGF isoforms and C3b/C4b.

Background: Previous cluster-randomized controlled trials evaluating the impact of implementing evidence-based guidelines for nutrition therapy in critical illness do not consistently demonstrate patient benefits. A large-scale, sufficiently powered study is therefore warranted to ascertain the effects of guideline implementation on patient-centered outcomes.
Methods: We conducted a multicenter, cluster-randomized, parallel-controlled trial in intensive care units (ICUs) across China.

Monochorionic twins are generally considered to be monozygotic, as monochorionic dizygotic (MCDZ) twins are extremely rare in natural pregnancies. Several studies have reported this rare occurrence, and most of these pregnancies have been conceived by assisted reproductive technology (ART). These reports mostly focused on MCDZ twin pregnancies and the childhood development of the twins; a follow-up into adulthood and the effect on their reproduction has not been reported.

Periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) are characterized by multiple differentiation potential and potent self-renewal ability, yet much remains to be elucidated that what determines these properties. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been suggested to involve in multiple biological process under physiological and pathological conditions, including osteogenic differentiation. In the present study, we performed comprehensive lncRNA profiling by lncRNA microarray analysis and identified prostate cancer-associated ncRNA transcript-1 (lncPCAT1) was gradually increased in PDLSCs during consecutive osteogenic induction, and it could further positively regulate the osteogenic differentiation both in vitro and in vivo, whereas lncPCAT1 inhibition led to suppressed osteogenic differentiation.

The transmission of normal sensory and/or acute noxious information requires intact expression of pain-associated genes within the pain pathways of nervous system. Expressional changes of these genes after peripheral nerve injury are also critical for neuropathic pain induction and maintenance. Methyl-CpG-binding domain protein 1 (MBD1), an epigenetic repressor, regulates gene transcriptional activity.
