The Use of Perpendicular Reconstruction Plates for the Buttressing of the Quadrilateral Surface Fractures of the Acetabulum: An Easy and Low-Cost Choice.

The quadrilateral surface fractures of the acetabulum are becoming more frequent due to the aging population. The optimal fixation of the quadrilateral surface through an appropriate surgical approach and a reliable and effective technique presents a challenge for orthopedic trauma surgeons. In this study, we present the results of 12 patients treated in our department who underwent internal fixation of the quadrilateral surface with two reconstruction plates in a vertical orientation for adequate fracture buttressing.

The Effect of Preoperative Information and Education on the Clinical Outcome of Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Prospective, Randomized Trial.

Introduction Preoperative patient information and education is an essential aspect of modern surgical care, particularly for patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA). This prospective, randomized trial aimed to assess the effects of structured preoperative education and information on clinical outcomes in patients undergoing THA. Materials and methods A total of 102 patients were randomized into two groups: the intervention group (n = 51) receiving standardized preoperative information and education, and the control group (n = 51) receiving standard preoperative care without a formal educational component.

Objective: The aim of the study was to summarize epidemiologic data about aortobronchial fistulas and compare outcomes (mortality, recurrence, re-operation) of open, staged, and endovascular repair of aortobronchial fistula.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a complex metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia, which derives from either insufficient insulin production [type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM)] or both impaired insulin sensitivity along with inadequate insulin production [type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)] and affects millions of people worldwide. In addition to the adverse effects of DM on classical target organs and tissues, skeletal health can also be adversely affected. There is considerable evidence linking DM with osteoporosis.

While the surgical techniques and implants used in THA have advanced significantly, the importance of preoperative information and education cannot be overstated. The aim of this narrative review is to explore the effect of preoperative information and education on the outcome of THA.

The Impact of the Doctor-Patient Relationship on the Treatment Goal in Rheumatology.

Objectives: To assess the perceptions of patients with rheumatic diseases about the doctor-patient relationship and the impact on their treatment and their quality of life.

Methods: A quantitative study collecting data from patients with rheumatic diseases using the following tools: (a) the Doctor-Patient Relationship Assessment Questionnaire-16 (DoPRAQ-16), assessed the quality of doctor-patient relationship, (b) the Short Form 36 (SF-36) assessed the quality of life of patients, and (c) the Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ), assessed the functional ability of patients. From the statistical analysis, it appears that there is no linear correlation between the DoPRAQ-16 scales and the dimensions of the SF-36 Health Survey, except for the scale of negative emotions and the dimension of Physical Functioning.

Impact of Hysteroscopic Polypectomy on IVF Outcomes in Women with Unexplained Infertility.

To assess the effect of hysteroscopic polypectomy on the in vitro fertilization (IVF) results in infertile women with at least one prior negative IVF outcome. This retrospective cohort study included women who had attended the "2nd Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens" and "Iaso" Maternity Hospital from October 2019 to January 2023 for infertility treatment. The medical records of 345 women aged 18-45 years old without abnormal findings in hysterosalpingography (HSG) and with at least one previous failed IVF procedure were analyzed.

An Update on Spinal Dural Arteriovenous Fistulae: Case Series and Systematic Review.

Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulae (sDAVFs) are rare entities with delayed diagnosis, potentially dramatic clinical manifestations, and complex management. We aim to present our mini case series and perform an updated systematic review of the usual patient profile, to search for established prognostic factors, to compare the effectiveness and safety of surgical and endovascular intervention, and to discuss trends in therapeutic strategy. We retrospectively collected data from patients treated in our department in the last decade (2014-2024) and we systematically reviewed the literature according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) criteria and searched the PubMed database for relevant articles published in the same period.

Patch Infection Following Carotid Endarterectomy: A Single-Center Audit and Literature Review.

Introduction: Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is a surgical procedure that carries a rare but serious risk of patch infection. This study examines the management and outcomes of patch infections in CEA patients treated in our department over 23 years. A literature review of studies on prosthetic patch infection following CEA published from January 1992 up to December 31, 2022 was also carried out.

Introduction: Isolated ruptures of the vastus lateralis (VL) tendon are exceptionally rare, with few reported cases in the orthopedic literature. This case report sheds light on non-surgical management for partial VL tendon ruptures, providing insight into an alternative treatment pathway that avoids surgical intervention.

The aim of this study was to review the available evidence as to the psychometric properties of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) used in ACL surgery.

Giant Lipoma in the Index Finger of a 60-Year-Old Patient: A Rare Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Introduction: Lipomas are the most common benign mesenchymal tumors found on the head, neck, shoulder, and back, but they are rarely encountered in the fingers, constituting <1% of such tumors.

Case Report: This case report presents an exceptional location of a giant lipoma on the proximal phalanx of a 60-year-old Caucasian male's rightindex finger, alongside a literature review that identified 20 similar cases. The patient, with no significant health issues, reported that the growthhad been asymptomatic for 2 years before seeking consultation due to aesthetic concerns and impaired finger extension.

Case Report on Botulinum Toxin Treatment for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in a Digit Reconstruction.

To evaluate subcutaneous Botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) efficacy in alleviating severe allodynia in complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) type II post-digit reconstruction. After surgical debridement and flap reconstruction for post-traumatic necrosis, a CRPS type II patient received subcutaneous BTX-A. Assessments tracked symptom changes and daily life improvements.
