Background: Despite extensive knowledge of tuberculosis (TB) and its control, there remains a significant gap in understanding the comprehensive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on TB incidence patterns. This study aims to explore the impact of COVID-19 on the pattern of pulmonary tuberculosis in China and examine the application of time series models in the analysis of these patterns, providing valuable insights for TB prevention and control.

Methods: We used pre-COVID-19 pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) data (2007-2018) to fit SARIMA, Prophet, and LSTM models, assessing their ability to predict PTB incidence trends.

Golgi protein 73 (GP73), also called Golgi membrane protein 1 (GOLM1), is a resident Golgi type II transmembrane protein and is considered as a serum marker for the detection of a variety of cancers. A recent work revealed the role of the secreted GP73 in stimulating liver glucose production and systemic glucose homeostasis. Since exaggerated hepatic glucose production plays a key role in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), GP73 may thus represent a potential therapeutic target for treating diabetic patients with pathologically elevated levels.

Vascular endothelial cell (VEC) dysfunction plays an important role in the ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI)-related diseases, and microRNAs (miRNAs) are key factors during this process. We conducted this study to investigate whether miRNA-26a (miR-26a) has effect on the IRI-induced VEC injury via the AMPK pathway by targeting 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase-fructose-2,6-biphosphatase 3 (PFKFB3). IRI rat models were successfully constructed by an abdominal incision.

Background: Developing more effective strategies to prevent relapse remains one of the major challenges of treating substance dependence. Previous studies have identified brain abnormalities in abstinent alcoholics. However, whether these persistent brain deficits in abstinence could predict early relapse to alcohol use has not been well established.

Introduction: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is widely used for type B aortic dissection, although with satisfactory outcome in a limited proportion of patients. To better inform patient prognostication, the Registry Of type B aortic dissection with the Utility of STent graft (ROBUST) study aims to identify imaging-based predictors of post-TEVAR adverse outcomes up to 10-year follow-up.

Methods And Analysis: ROBUST is designed as an ambispective, multicentre, open cohort study.

Delayed wound healing in diabetic patients is one of the most challenging complications in clinical medicine, as it poses a greater risk of gangrene, amputation and even death. Therefore, a novel method to promote diabetic wound healing is of considerable interest at present. Previous studies showed that injection of MSC-derived exosomes has beneficial effects on wound healing.

Background: Identifying the risk factors predisposing to aortic enlargement after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is needed for DeBakey IIIb aortic dissection. The aim of the study is to assess the novel morphological features for DeBakey IIIb aortic dissection in predicting distal thoracic aortic enlargement after TEVAR.

Methods: Sixty-seven patients who underwent TEVAR for DeBakey IIIb aortic dissection between January 2011 and December 2013 at our center were divided based on preoperative computer tomography angiography (CTA) features into 3 groups: I (n = 27) and III (n = 9), with true and false lumen, respectively, coursing closely along thoracic vertebral bodies and II, spiral configuration (n = 31).

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to examine the correlation between the level of serum inflammatory markers and the stability of carotid plaques in patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease and to assess the ability of each inflammatory marker to identify vulnerable carotid plaques.

Methods: For the early identification of vulnerable carotid plaques, 65 patients with carotid plaques were divided into a stable plaque group (n = 21) and an unstable plaque group (n = 44) according to magnetic resonance imaging characteristics. The unstable plaque group was divided into an unstable unruptured plaque group (n = 29) and an unstable ruptured plaque group (n = 15) according to whether the fibrous cap was ruptured.

GDF-15 gene expression alterations in human lymphoblastoid cells and peripheral blood lymphocytes following exposure to ionizing radiation.

Mol Med Rep

June 2017

China CDC Key Laboratory of Radiological Protection and Nuclear Emergency, National Institute for Radiological Protection, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Beijing 100088, P.R. China.

The identification of rapid, sensitive and high‑throughput biomarkers is imperative in order to identify individuals harmed by radiation accidents, and accurately evaluate the absorbed doses of radiation. DNA microarrays have previously been used to evaluate the alterations in growth/differentiation factor 15 (GDF15) gene expression in AHH‑1 human lymphoblastoid cells, following exposure to γ‑rays. The present study aimed to characterize the relationship between the dose of ionizing radiation and the produced effects in GDF‑15 gene expression in AHH‑1 cells and human peripheral blood lymphocytes (HPBLs).

Renal Division, Department of Medicine, Peking University First Hospital, Institute of Nephrology, Peking University, Key Laboratory of Renal Disease, Ministry of Health of China and Key Laboratory of CKD Prevention and Treatment, Ministry of Education of China, Beijing, PR China; Peking-Tsinghua Center for Life Sciences, Beijing, PR China.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by overproduction of numerous autoantibodies. Many studies have sought to identify such biomarkers to distinguish patients with active lupus nephritis from SLE patients without renal involvement. Because antibodies to complement C1q appear to be prevalent in patients with active lupus nephritis, we analyzed the frequency of antigenic epitopes of C1q and their clinical significance in a large multicenter study of Chinese patients.

Article Synopsis
  • A study explored the relationship between sagittal lumbosacral parameters, particularly pelvic incidence (PI), and lumbar spondylolysis in a sample of Han Chinese adults, noting a gap in research for this demographic.
  • The research included 52 patients with lumbar spondylolysis, divided into two subgroups, and compared their lumbosacral parameters to those of 207 healthy adults using radiographs.
  • Results indicated that the spondylolysis group had higher PI, pelvic tilt, sacral slope, and lumbar lordosis but a lower sacral table angle, suggesting these parameters are important in understanding lumbar spondylolysis in this population.

Laboratory for Shock and Multiple Organ Dysfunction of Burns Institute, Key Research Laboratory of Tissue Repair and Regeneration of PLA, and Beijing Key Research Laboratory of Skin Injury and Repair Regeneration, First Hospital Affiliated to the Chinese PLA General Hospital, Beijing 100048, China. Electronic address:

Background: To investigate whether pyruvate-enriched oral rehydration solution (Pyr-ORS), compared with citrate-enriched ORS (Cit-ORS), improves hemodynamics and organ function by alleviating vasopermeability and plasma volume loss during intra-gastric fluid rehydration in dogs with severe burn.

Methods: Forty dogs subjected to severe burn were randomly divided into four groups (n=10): two oral rehydrated groups with Pyr-ORS and Cit-ORS (group PR and group CR), respectively, according to the Parkland formula during the first 24h after burns. Other two groups were the intravenous (IV) resuscitation (group VR) with lactated Ringer's solution with the same dosage and no fluid rehydration (group NR).
