BACKGROUND: Sequential nab-paclitaxel plus gemcitabine followed by modified FOLFOX-6 (oxaliplatin, leucovorin, and 5-fluorouracil) (nab-P/Gem-mFOLFOX) showed a good safety and clinical profile in metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (mPDAC) in the phase I SEQUENCE trial. METHODS: The safety and efficacy of sequential nab-P/Gem-mFOLFOX was compared with standard nab-paclitaxel plus gemcitabine (nab-P/Gem) as first-line treatment in a multi-institutional, randomized, open-label, phase II trial in patients with untreated mPDAC. We randomly assigned patients in a 1:1 ratio to receive nab-P/Gem on days 1, 8, and 15 followed by mFOLFOX on day 29 of a 6-week cycle (experimental group) or nab-P/Gem on days 1, 8, and 15 of a 4-week cycle (control group).

Importance: A clear dosing regimen for methotrexate in psoriasis is lacking, and this might lead to a suboptimal treatment. Because methotrexate is affordable and globally available, a uniform dosing regimen could potentially optimize the treatment of patients with psoriasis worldwide.
Objective: To reach international consensus among psoriasis experts on a uniform dosing regimen for treatment with methotrexate in adult and pediatric patients with psoriasis and identify potential future research topics.

Pembrolizumab is a treatment that has shown a survival benefit in patients with metastatic melanoma. Programmed death receptor 1 inhibitors are new therapeutic agents that produce clinical responses with a more manageable profile of adverse effects compared to chemotherapy. The most frequent adverse effects include fatigue, rash, myalgia, pyrexia and cough, with less frequent occurrence of immune-mediated adverse reactions such as colitis, pneumonitis, hepatitis and encephalitis.

Objectives: To explore the pathophysiology of proliferative verrucous leukoplakia, a rare oral disorder that exhibits high rates of recurrence and malignant transformation, through a RNAseq case-control study.
Material And Methods: We obtained oral biopsies from 10 patients with verrucous leukoplakia lesions and from the mucosa of 5 healthy individuals for sequencing using RNAseq technology. Using bioinformatic methods, we investigated gene expression and enrichment differences between patients both with and without the disorder.
Background: A retrospective clinical-histopathological study was made of the evolution of oral leukoplakia over time, staging the disease according to the classification of van der Waal.
Material And Methods: A study was made of 412 patients with oral leukoplakia, analyzing the corresponding clinical factors and histopathological findings; assessing associations between the different clinical presentations and epithelial dysplasia; and evaluating the factors influencing malignant transformation of the lesions.
Results: Clinically, homogeneous presentations were seen to predominate (n = 336, 81.

Background: For performing peripheral nerve blocks, the risk for needle-nerve contact (NNC) as an adverse event for low and high current thresholds has not yet been clearly defined when nerve stimulator guided techniques were applied. This experimental study aimed to investigate the risk of NNCs when applying stimulation currents between 0.1 and 2 mA (in increments of 0.

Graft versus host disease (GVHD) is one of the most frequent and serious complications of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and is regarded as the leading cause of late mortality unrelated to the underlying malignant disease. GVHD is an autoimmune and alloimmune disorder that usually affects multiple organs and tissues, and exhibits a variable clinical course. It can manifest in either acute or chronic form.

Background: Aim was to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of a moxifloxacin-containing second-line triple regimen in patients whose previous Helicobacter pylori eradication treatment failed.
Methods: Prospective multicentre study including patients in whom a triple therapy or a non-bismuth-quadruple-therapy failed. Moxifloxacin (400mg qd), amoxicillin (1g bid), and esomeprazole (40 mg bid) were prescribed for 14 days.

Increased RDW has been found to be a marker of adverse outcomes in cardiovascular disease (CVD), although the exact mechanism remains unclear. Recently, several authors have found that higher RDW is associated with decreased erythrocyte deformability, which can impair blood flow through microcirculation, a fact which may explain the increased risk for CVD events associated with elevated RDW. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between RDW and erythrocyte deformability in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

The present literature review examines the etiopathogenesis, risk factors, clinical forms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of bisphosphonate-induced ONJ. In addition, a review is made of all the series involving over 15 patients diagnosed with this disorder between 1 January 2011 and 15 May 2011.
