Article Synopsis
  • Fatigue is a common issue for patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), and the Fatigue Impact Scale (FIS) is a key tool used to assess different dimensions of fatigue.
  • The study focused on validating the FIS for MS patients in Serbia, involving 121 MS patients and 122 matched healthy controls who completed the FIS and the Beck Depression Inventory.
  • Results showed that FIS scores significantly differed between MS patients and healthy controls, with strong internal consistency (Cronbach's Alpha of 0.966) and reliable test-retest results, suggesting the FIS is an effective measure for evaluating fatigue and functionality in Serbian MS patients.

Introduction: The health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of people with (Pw) multiple sclerosis (MS) is usually deteriorated. It has been recently suggested that comorbidities may have the negative influence on the quality of life of the PwMS, but according to the best of our knowledge, only one study investigated, although in a very small cohort, the impact of individual comorbidity on the quality of life of PwMS. The aim of our investigation was to assess, in an international, multicentric study, the impact of comorbid seizure/epilepsy on the HRQoL in PwMS.

Background: Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and diabetes are the major causes of lower extremity amputations (LEAs) worldwide. Morbidity and mortality in patients with LEAs are high with an associated significant burden on the global health system. The aim of this article is to report the overall morbidity and mortality rates after major and minor LEAs from the Serbian Vascular Registry (SerbVasc), with an analysis of predictive factors that influenced adverse outcomes.

Background and Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to significant changes globally, which has also affected patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). This study aimed to determine the incidence of T1DM and the characteristics of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) during the pandemic comparing it to pre-pandemic period. Materials and Methods: Data from patients <19 years with newly diagnosed T1DM between 1st January 2017 and 31st December 2021 from four regional centers in Vojvodina were retrospectively collected and analyzed.

We aimed to collect data on all paediatric patients who were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) between the years 2000 and 2019 in Serbia and estimate for the first time its prevalence. Also, the trends of diabetes ketoacidosis (DKA) occurrence at the time of diagnosis are monitored. We collected and retrospectively analysed the data of patients <19 years with newly diagnosed T1DM.

Association between anthropometric measures of regional fat mass and heart rate variability in obese women.

Nutr Diet

February 2017

Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders, Institute of Internal Disease, Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad, Novi Sad, Serbia.

Aim: Impaired autonomic function could be the mechanism for the development of cardiometabolic diseases in obesity. Hence, simple anthropometric measures of overall and central obesity could be screening markers for autonomic imbalance. We analysed the relationship between heart rate variability (HRV) parameters and obesity indicators.

Content: Metabolically healthy obese (MHO) individuals are characterized by absence of metabolic syndrome. The role of autonomic nervous system in metabolic profile of obese subjects has not been sufficiently investigated.

Objective: We analyzed heart rate variability (HRV) in MHO and metabolically unhealthy obese (MUO) premenopausal women.

Objectives: The aims of the study were to determine the percentage of patients on regular hemodialysis (HD) in Serbia failing to meet KDOQI guidelines targets and find out factors associated with the risk of time to death and the association between guidelines adherence and patient outcome.

Methods: A cohort of 2153 patients on regular HD in 24 centers (55.7% of overall HD population) in Serbia were followed from January 2010 to December 2012.

Prolactin is a metabolic hormone. The hypothesis is that hyperprolactinemia can cause metabolic and inflammatory changes which are associated with accelerated atherosclerotic process, but the treatment of hyperprolactinemia with dopamine agonists, leads to reversibility of these processes. The first aim of this study was to determine whether hyperprolactinemia in premenopausal women is accompanied with the increase in body mass index (BMI), changes in body composition, lipid disturbances, the presence of inflammation and changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure as risk factors for the development of early atherosclerosis.

The coexistence of Down syndrome (DS) and celiac disease (CD) has been reported in many studies. In our study, we examined 82 children with DS aged 8 months to 8.6 years for the existence of CD using serological markers immunoglobulin A (IgA) and immunoglobulin G (IgG) transglutaminase antibodies, followed by follow-up determination of total IgA levels.
