Prevalence and Severity of Postdialysis Fatigue Are Higher in Patients on Chronic Hemodialysis With Functional Disability.

The aim of the present study was to determine the intensity, duration, frequency and prevalence of postdialysis fatigue (PDF) in patients on chronic hemodialysis (PCD) with and without functional disability. Patients underwent assessment of functional ability by the Katz ADL (activity daily living) questionnaire and the Lawton and Brody scale for the instrumental activity daily living (IADL) fatigue using the SF-36 Vitality Subscale, comorbidity through the Charlson comorbidity score index (CDI), and time of recovery after hemodialysis (TIRD). We studied 271 PCD.

Electrical stimulation of the centromedian thalamic nucleus in control of seizures: long-term studies.

Five patients with chronic incapacitating seizures averaging 15-5,000/month were selected for study. All patients had more than one seizure type and had received maximal doses of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). The centromedian thalamic nucleus (CM) was stimulated electrically through bilateral multicontact platinum electrodes stereotaxically placed in CM and connected to internalized pulse generators.

Gallium-67 scintigraphy in an AIDS patients presenting tuberculous pericarditis.

The case of a 31-year-old HIV-positive male drug addict, with a history of recurrent intermittent fever is presented. Chest x-ray showed right ilar-node enlargement and moderate venous congestion. A 67Ga-citrate scan of the chest was highly suggestive of Mycobacterial infection.
