Objective: To analyze the expression of immunoglobulin mucin molecule 3 (TIM-3) in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and the effects of TIM-3 knockdown and overexpression on proliferation and migration of ovarian cancer cells.

Methods: We analyzed TIM-3 expression in EOC and normal ovarian tissues using GEPIA database. We also detected TIM-3 expression levels in 82 surgical specimens of EOC and 18 specimens of normal ovarian tissues using immunohistochemistry, and analyzed the correlation of TIM-3 expression with clinicopathological parameters and survival outcomes of the patients.

Background: Methylmalonic aciduria (MMA), a rare inherited disorder, is the most common organic aciduria in China, and prenatal diagnosis has contributed to its prevention. However, the prenatal diagnosis of MMA using cultured amniocytes or chorionic villi to detect gene mutations is exclusively applicable to families with a definite genetic diagnosis. To evaluate the reliability of mass spectrometry assays for the prenatal diagnosis of MMA, we conducted a retrospective study of our 10 years' experience.

Objective: To investigate the factors influencing the outcome of initial 131I remnant ablative therapy in intermediate- to high-risk patients with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC).

Methods: We divided 99 patients with PTMC who underwent total thyroidectomy into two groups according to their response to initial 131I remnant ablative therapy: excellent response (ER) and non-ER groups. Clinical and laboratory characteristics were collected and retrospectively analyzed using univariate and multivariate binary logistic regression.

Recent research on inherited metabolic diseases in children.

Zhongguo Dang Dai Er Ke Za Zhi

March 2022

Department of Pediatrics, General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin 300052, China.

With the improvement in the research level and the diagnosis and treatment technology of inherited metabolic diseases (IMD), the research on pediatric IMD in China has made great progress, but there is still some distance from the international level. Due to the vast territory of China and the uneven distribution of medical resources, the regional characteristics of IMD remain unclear in China, and there are many problems and difficulties in early diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the understanding of pediatric IMD among pediatricians, so as to improve the diagnosis and treatment level, achieve an early identification, diagnosis, and treatment of pediatric IMD, and effectively reduce the fatality and disability rates of children with IMD.

Objective: This study aimed to identify the hub genes and pathways of genes related to oxidative stress of cartilage in osteonecrosis of femoral head (ONFH), and to predict the transcription factors of the hub genes.

Methods: The GSE74089 was obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, including 4 necrotic tissues and 4 normal tissues, and the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified by limma package in R language. Simultaneously, we searched for the genes related to oxidative stress in the Gene Ontology (GO) database.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) often presents with satellite nodules, rendering current curative treatments ineffective in many patients. The heterogeneity of HCC is a major challenge in personalized medicine. The emergence of spatial transcriptomics (ST) provides a powerful strategy for delineating the complex molecular landscapes of tumours.

Background: This study explores whether the differences in cognitive performance among individuals with permanent atrial fibrillation (AF) are attributable to the duration of AF and anticoagulant therapy and explores the possible inflammatory mechanism of cognitive dysfunction related to AF.

Methods: A total of 260 patients aged 50-75 years without previous cerebrovascular events were enrolled in this study. These 260 patients had been divided into the AF group (140 patients) and sinus rhythm group (120 patients).

The clinical characteristics of patients with primary central nervous system lymphoma-diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (PCNSL-DLBCL) and the effects of different treatment schemes on their survival and prognosis were analyzed retrospectively. A total of 49 patients with PCNSL-DLBCL who presented at the Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from July 2014 to December 2020 were included, and their clinical data were retrospectively analyzed. They were divided into four groups: the MTX group, the R-CDOP group, the BTKi-R-MTX group, and the RLZT group.

Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is required for the cellular entry of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. ACE2, via the Ang-(1-7)-Mas-R axis, is part of the antihypertensive and cardioprotective effects of the renin-angiotensin system. We studied hospitalized COVID-19 patients with hypertension and hypertensive human(h) ACE2 transgenic mice to determine the outcome of COVID-19 with or without AT1 receptor (AT1R) blocker treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • eIF4E is a protein linked to tumor initiation and immune cell infiltration in breast cancer, with higher expression levels in cancerous tissues compared to normal ones!
  • Studies indicate that higher eIF4E levels correlate with worse patient survival and increased recurrence rates in breast cancer!
  • Experimental results show that reducing eIF4E expression inhibits cancer cell migration and invasion, while its expression is associated with increased presence of immune cells, suggesting a role in tumor progression and immune evasion!

A large number of epidemiological studies have confirmed that arteriosclerosis (AS) is a risk factor for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). However, the relationship between AS and AAA remains controversial. The objective of this work is to better understand the association between the two diseases by identifying the co-differentially expressed genes under both pathological conditions, so as to identify potential genetic biomarkers and treatment targets for atherosclerosis-related aneurysms.

To evaluate the influence of the abdominal incision length on the gastrointestinal function recovery post-operatively. Gut motility recovers more quickly after the minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery compared than after the traditional open surgery; however, whether the minimal abdominal incision contributes to the faster gut motility recovery is controversial and lacks solid clinical evidence. A registry-based secondary cohort analysis was conducted to evaluate the association between the abdominal incision length and gut motility recovery post-operatively based on a multicenter, prospective, and observational study of the prolonged post-operative ileus (PPOI) incidence and the risk factors in the patients with the major abdominal surgery.

Ferroptosis plays a critical role in different types of cancers, but the prognostic impact of ferroptosis in cutaneous melanoma remains lacking. Therefore, ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) were firstly obtained from the FerrDb database and the differentially expressed FRGs were identified by the "limma" algorithm. Next, the prognostic differentially expressed FRGs were screened out by univariate Cox regression, which were subsequently used to cluster melanomas into two subtypes (clusters A and B).
