Purpose: Only several cases of acetabular "fatigue"/insufficiency fractures have been reported in elderly patients with osteoporosis. However, fatigue acetabular fracture below lumbopelvic fixation has not been published. This study reports on sagittal craniocervical roentgenographic predictors of HRQOL (SF-36) in patients following uncomplicated CCF for fresh upper cervical traumatic (UCT) injuries.

The intestinal neoplastic transformation is a possible risk of chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Previous evidence in mice IBD provides a role for the RAS-association domain family tumor suppressor protein 1 A (RASSF1A), in the repairing process following mucosa epithelium damage, through cooperation with the HIPPO-signaling molecules p73, and YAP. This retrospective study compares efficacy and safety of balloon kyphoplasty (BK) with calcium phosphate (Group A) versus KIVA implant with PMMA (Group B) reinforced with three vertebrae pedicle screw constructs for A2 and A3 single fresh non-osteoporotic lumbar (L1-L4) fractures in 38 consecutive age- and diagnosis-matched patient populations. Extracanal leakage of both low-viscosity PMMA and calcium phosphate (CP) as well as the following roentgenographic parameters: segmental kyphosis (SKA), anterior (AVBHr) and posterior (PVBHr) vertebral body height ratio, spinal canal encroachment (SCE) clearance, and functional outcome measures: VAS and SF-36, were recorded and compared between the two groups. Between 1994 and 1999, 217 metal-on-metal total hip arthroplasties with a low-carbide bearing surface were performed with use of the cementless Zweymüller SL-Plus stem and the Bicon-Plus threaded cup in 194 consecutive patients. After a minimum follow-up of ten years, 181 living patients (203 hips) were available for evaluation. The revision rate after an average of twelve years was 18% (thirty-six hips in thirty-six patients were revised).

Total hip arthroplasty (THA) performed in patients with osteonecrosis, caused by sickle cell disease, carries a higher risk of medical and orthopedic complications, than those observed after THA for osteonecrosis related to other conditions. We report such a case of a male patient, who underwent one-stage revision hip arthroplasty due to septic cup loosening after primary cementless THA and later developed severe septic osteomyelitis of the ipsilateral hemipelvis that had a fatal outcome. The relative literature regarding loosening and infection after THA in patients with sickle cell disease is thoroughly reviewed.
