Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in Atopic Dermatitis and Chronic Urticaria Are Underused in Clinical Practice.

J Allergy Clin Immunol Pract

June 2024

Institute of Allergology, Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Berlin, Germany; Allergology and Immunology, Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology ITMP, Berlin, Germany. Electronic address:

Background: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are validated and standardized tools that complement physician evaluations and guide treatment decisions. They are crucial for monitoring atopic dermatitis (AD) and chronic urticaria (CU) in clinical practice, but there are unmet needs and knowledge gaps regarding their use in clinical practice.

Objecctive: We investigated the global real-world use of AD and CU PROMs in allergology and dermatology clinics as well as their associated local and regional networks.

Background: Premature ovarian failure (POF) can be found in 1% of women at the age of 35-40, mostly due to unknown causes. PI3K-Akt signaling is associated with both ovarian function and growth of primordial follicles. In this study, we examined the effects of autologous ovarian activation with stem cells and autologous growth factors on reproductive and endocrine function in patients with ovarian impairment.

Objective: To compare the reproductive outcomes between the transfer of cleavage-stage embryos and blastocysts in two different age groups of patients. The reproductive capacity of women decreases by age. This decrease in capacity is directly related to a lower ovarian reserve and errors in the meiotic spindle of the oocyte, which increase chromosomal abnormalities and the formation of aneuploidy embryos with lower chances of implantation.

Quality of life is defined by the World Health Organization as "individuals' perceptions of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards and concerns." Often overlooked in the past, it is nowadays considered, in a more holistic view of medicine, a decisive factor to understand the impact of diseases and improve the quality of medical care. Such evaluation is particularly relevant for dermatological diseases, because visibility of the lesions can significantly affect self-esteem and social relationships.
