Differences among Indian and European pemphigus patients based on demographics, clinical parameters and propensity for relapse: results of a prospective bicontinental cohort study.

Limited studies have explored pemphigus variations among different ethnic groups residing in their respective geographical locations. This bicontinental study aimed to compare clinical and immunological parameters in Indian and European pemphigus patients in complete remission, off therapy, or on minimal therapy. 105 patients (India, n= 75; Bulgaria, n=15; Greece, n=15) with pemphigus vulgaris (PV) or pemphigus foliaceous (PF) in complete remission on minimal therapy (n=64) or complete remission off therapy (n=41) were recruited.

Assessment of Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients With Traumatic Fractures Following Thoracolumbar Fusion: Short-Term Results.

Introduction: Thoracolumbar vertebral fractures (TVFs) constitute frequent injuries with specific therapeutic challenges and remarkable implications for affected individuals. The aim of this study is to investigate the alteration of overall health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with traumatic TVFs undergoing thoracolumbar fusion surgery.

Materials And Methods: A total of 72 patients with single-level traumatic thoracic or lumbar vertebral fractures (AO type A3 or A4) were enrolled in this prospective cohort study.

ESPRAS Survey: National and European Societies for Plastic Surgeons.

Background: The European Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (ESPRAS) comprises 40 national societies across Europe. In addition to ESPRAS, there are 8 different European Plastic Surgery societies representing Plastic Surgeons in Europe. The 4 European Leadership Forum (ELF) of ESPRAS, held under the motto "Stronger together in Europe" in Munich in 2023, aimed to collect and disseminate information regarding the national member societies of ESPRAS and European societies for Plastic Surgeons.

Comparison of two protocols of diode laser transscleral cyclophotocoagulation in refractory glaucoma.

Introduction: Diode laser transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (DLTSCPC) remains the most commonly used cyclodestructive procedure. Nonetheless, there is no common consensus on a standardized technique.

Methods: In this prospective randomized pilot study we compare the "pop"-titrated and "slow-burn" DLTSCPC techniques for a follow-up period of 3 months.

Mydriasis for retinopathy of prematurity screening in Europe: A cross-sectional online survey.

Purpose: To compile real-time data on the preferred mydriasis practice patterns for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening in Europe.

Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted from December 2022 to January 2023, using a self-report online questionnaire which was distributed via email to the members of the European Pediatric Ophthalmological Society and the Greek National ROP Task Force. A six-week period of recruitment was determined, and a reminder email was sent after two weeks.

In this study, we report a rare incidence of bilateral hematoma following air travel in a patient who had recently undergone breast augmentation surgery. The case underscores the potential risks associated with flying shortly after such procedures. Through a literature review, we aimed to explore the incidence rates and highlight the need for further research in this area.

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) remains the main cause of death worldwide, and thus its prevention, early diagnosis and treatment is of paramount importance. Dyslipidemia represents a major ASCVD risk factor that should be adequately managed at different clinical settings. 2023 guidelines of the Hellenic Atherosclerosis Society focus on the assessment of ASCVD risk, laboratory evaluation of dyslipidemias, new and emerging lipid-lowering drugs, as well as diagnosis and treatment of lipid disorders in women, the elderly and in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia, acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, stroke, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Small bowel non-Meckelian diverticulosis is a rare condition with only a few published cases despite being described over 200 years ago. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, studies suggested that many patients may experience gastrointestinal manifestations. Intestinal symptoms could worsen the inflammation and infection associated with small bowel diverticulitis.

Primary Staged Bilateral Total Hip Arthroplasty in a Patient With Short Stature and Hartofilakidis Type I Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip.

Syndromes associated with osteochondrodysplasia, short stature, and DDH are rarely reported in the literature. Total hip arthroplasty (THA) in such cases is a complex procedure with a high rate of complications and difficulties. In this case report, we describe the staged bilateral complex primary THA of a patient with the rare occurrence of a syndrome involving osteochondrodysplasia and DDH, highlighting the surgical challenges and importance of the right prosthesis selection.

Exploring vismodegib: A non-surgical breakthrough in the management of advanced periocular basal cell carcinoma.

The management of periocular basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is challenging due to its proximity to the eyeball. Vismodegib, a Hedgehog pathway inhibitor, has emerged as a therapeutic option for locally advanced and metastatic BCC. To critically appraise the relevant evidence, we conducted a systematic review of observational and experimental studies assessing the efficacy and safety of vismodegib for periocular BCC.

Introduction: This systematic review aims to critically assess the literature comparative studies investigating collared and collarless Corail stem in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) to find differences in revision rates, radiographic and clinical outcomes, and postoperative complications between these two types of the same stem.

Methods: Eligible studies were found by searching PubMed, Science Direct/Scopus, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews from conception till May 2023. The PRISMA guidelines were followed.

Acetabular Reconstruction in a Rare Case of Ligamentum Teres Tenosynovial Giant Cell Tumour (TGCT) Causing Extensive Destruction.

Tenosynovial giant cell tumour (TGCT), previously called pigmented villonodular tenosynovitis (PVNS), is a rare benign, locally aggressive condition that primarily affects the synovial lining of large joints, such as the knee, the hip, and the ankle. TGCT of the hip joint is a relatively scarce entity, and its diagnosis is often challenging. This article reports a case of TGCT affecting the left acetabulum, the left femoral head, and the ligamentum teres of the hip joint in a 39-year-old woman who presented to our clinic three months after the onset of symptoms.

Recurrent Sialolithiasis following Intraoral Deep Hilar/Intraparenchymal Stone Removal from Wharton's Duct.

Nonetheless, transoral stone removal remains viable for distal, deep hilar, and intraparenchymal stones. However, data are limited regarding recurrence and revision surgery; (2) Patients/Methods: This retrospective study included 226 patients with SMG stones treated using Wharton's duct slitting and marsupialisation over nine years; 138 had deep hilar or intraparenchymal stones, while 88 had distal stones.

Obesity and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in adults with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: An analysis from HELLAS-FH registry.

Background: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and obesity are well-established risk factors of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Despite high prevalence, their joint association with ASCVD remains largely unknown.
