Alcohol consumption is a known, modifiable risk factor for incident atrial fibrillation (AF). However, it remains unclear whether the protective effect of moderate alcohol consumption-that has been reported for various cardiovascular diseases also applies to the risk for new-onset AF. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the role of different drinking patterns (low: <14 grams/week; moderate: <168 grams/week; and heavy: >168 grams/week) on the risk for incident AF.

Background: Atrial fibrillation in WolffParkinsonWhite syndrome may result in life-threateningly rapid antegrade conduction over a bypass tract, manifested by an irregular broad-complex (pre-excited) tachycardia that can degenerate to ventricular fibrillation. The shortest pre-excited RR interval below 250 ms during atrial fibrillation (AF) predicts increased risk of sudden cardiac death.
Case Summary: We report a case of a 43-year-old man with unremarkable cardiac history who presented due to sudden-onset feeling of palpitations and pre-syncope after strenuous lifting.

Vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 are known to be less immunogenic for some individuals, whereas others present notably high levels of antibody production. We assessed the cellular response to BNT162b2 among individuals with low post-vaccination antibody levels as well as in a small group of individuals with high titers. Antibody levels were assessed by the Abbott SARS-CoV-2 IgG II Quant assay.

The worldwide upward trend in obesity in adults and the increased incidence of overweight children suggests that the future risk of obesity-related illnesses will be increased. The existing anti-obesity drugs act either in the central nervous system (CNS) or in the peripheral tissues, controlling the appetite and metabolism. However, weight regain is a common homeostatic response; current anti-obesity medications show limited effectiveness in achieving long-term weight loss maintenance; in addition to being linked to various side effects.

Metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL)-producing Gram-negative bacteria are increasing worldwide and very few agents are active against these pathogens. Taniborbactam (formerly VNRX-5133) is a newly developed bicyclic boronate beta-lactamase inhibitor that directly inhibits all four Ambler classes of beta-lactamases. In the present study the in vitro activity of cefepime or meropenem combined with taniborbactam against 100 Klebsiella pneumoniae and cefepime combined with taniborbactam against 100 Pseudomonas aeruginosa molecularly characterized MBL-producing strains were investigated using ISO standard broth microdilution assays and compared with a panel of antimicrobial agents that are used in clinical practice (amikacin, aztreonam, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, gentamicin, piperacillin/tazobactam, imipenem, tigecycline, ceftolozane-tazobactam, cefepime-tazobactam, meropenem-vaborbactam, ceftazidime-avibactam).
