Article Synopsis
  • Pathology of the long head of the biceps tendon (LHB) is a frequent cause of shoulder pain, often requiring surgical intervention when conservative methods fail, with this study focusing on arthroscopic suprapectoral biceps tenodesis.
  • A case series of 23 patients treated surgically between 2016 and 2022 showed significant improvements in shoulder function and pain relief, with assessments indicating substantial gains in scores after one year.
  • The study concludes that arthroscopic suprapectoral biceps tenodesis is both effective and safe for treating isolated LHB pathology, as no postoperative complications were reported.

Article Synopsis
  • * Follow-up over approximately 29 months revealed that ILRs helped establish diagnoses in significant portions of these patients, particularly detecting issues like atrial fibrillation in those with a history of cryptogenic stroke.
  • * The findings suggest that ILRs not only aid in diagnosis but also lead to changes in treatment strategies for around one-fourth of the patients, making them a valuable tool in cardiac evaluations.

Glaucoma is a common and potentially blinding complication of uveitis. Many mechanisms are involved alone or in combination in the pathogenesis of uveitic glaucoma (UG). In terms of diagnostic evaluation, the effects of inflammatory activity in the retinal nerve fiber layer may be a source of bias in the interpretation of optical coherence tomography measurements.

Pathogenesis and prognosis of intrarenal reflux.

Folia Med Cracov

July 2023

First Department of Pediatric Surgery, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, General Hospital "G. Gennimatas", Thessaloniki, Greece.

Scar development in the children's renal cortex with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is one of the most important parameters of prognosis. It can develop regardless of the chosen treatment, even after the regression of VUR. The shape of the renal papillae, the ascending urinary tract infection, the greater than third-degree VUR, and finally the increased intra-calyceal pressure, induce the formation of renal scarring in the renal parenchyma.
