Median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS) is an uncommon condition characterized by the compression of the celiac trunk by the median arcuate ligament. Due to the anatomical proximity to the foregut, MALS has significant implications in hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery. It can pose complications in pancreatoduodenectomy and orthotopic liver transplantation, where the collateral arterial supply from the superior mesenteric artery is often disrupted.

Background: There is a lack of contemporary data describing global variations in vascular access for hemodialysis (HD). We used the third iteration of the International Society of Nephrology Global Kidney Health Atlas (ISN-GKHA) to highlight differences in funding and availability of hemodialysis accesses used for initiating HD across world regions.
Methods: Survey questions were directed at understanding the funding modules for obtaining vascular access and types of accesses used to initiate dialysis.

Background And Purpose: Renal impairment (RI) confers adverse prognosis in myeloma; its reversal and avoidance of dialysis are crucial. We investigated whether serum free light chain (SFLC) measurements can predict renal outcome, to enable change in therapy to optimize prognosis and avoid dialysis.
Patients And Methods: We investigated 36 myeloma patients (17 newly diagnosed [ND]; 19 relapsed refractory [RR]; with median of 5 prior lines) with eGFR 15-40 ml/min treated with carfilzomib (Cfz)-dexamethasone to determine whether SFLC kinetics can predict renal outcomes, and assess efficacy and tolerability.

Background: Ageing population is a worldwide phenomenon with correspondingly higher proportion of older patients being treated in the hospital setting. Sarcopenia, which increases with age, has serious negative implications on health, hospitalisation, and overall postoperative recovery. There is no mutual consensus on perioperative management of sarcopenia in surgical patients in Singapore.

Background: Tourniquets are common adjuncts in the operating theatre but can be associated with post-operative pain. This study was designed to compare what effect pre-tourniquet Esmarch bandage exsanguination has on pain, compared to pre-tourniquet exsanguination by elevation alone.
Methods: 52 volunteers (104 lower limbs) were included in this study with each volunteer acting as their own matched control.

Background/aim: Endometrial cancer (EC) is the predominant malignancy among gynecologic cancers and ranks fourth among all types of cancer. Recently, researchers have focused on the development of new prognostic biomarkers. Subunits of the SWI/SNF protein complex, like the ARID1 and BRG1, have been associated with the development of endometrial cancer.

Haemodialysis facilities have a large environmental impact due to high energy, water and consumable usage by haemodialysis equipment. As climate change and natural resource scarcity escalate, all the while the number of people requiring dialysis increases, there is an urgent need for dialysis facilities that meet care needs while minimising environmental impact. To address this, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology engaged an environmental sustainability consulting practise to develop a best practise guide for the environmentally sustainable design and operation of haemodialysis facilities.

Since their introduction, immune checkpoint inhibitors have revolutionized cancer treatment by harnessing the body's own immune system as a defense against tumor growth. The downside of activating the immune system is the development of immune-related adverse events (irAEs), which mimic autoimmune disease of various organ systems. The musculoskeletal system is an uncommon, but substantial one for patients and can lead to long-term pain and disability that affects their quality of life.
