Introduction: Metabolic syndrome has become a major health risk affecting patients worldwide and has been shown to be a risk factor for postoperative complications following abdominal surgery. Introduction: Oncotype Dx (ODX) is a genetic assay that analyzes tumor recurrence risk and provides chemotherapy recommendations for T1-T2 stage, hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor-negative, and nodal-negative breast cancer patients. Despite its established validity, the utilization of this assay is suboptimal. The study aims to evaluate factors that are associated with adherence rate with the testing guidelines and examine changes in utilization trends.

Background: Prostate needle biopsy (PNB) remains the referent standard for diagnosing prostate cancer. Contemporary data highlight an increase in PNB-related infections particularly when performed transrectally. Non-infectious complications, however, may similarly contribute to biopsy-related morbidity.

Revision paraesophageal hernia repair outcomes in patients with typical and atypical reflux.

Background: Revision laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery (RLARS) is effective in alleviating the typical symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). RLARS outcomes in patients with atypical GERD symptoms has not been well established. A composite Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) score greater than 13 indicates extraesophageal manifestation of pathological reflux.

Background: Laparoscopic paraesophageal hernia repair (PEHr) is a safe and effective procedure for relieving foregut symptoms associated with paraesophageal hernias (PEH). Nonetheless, it is estimated that about 30-50% of patients will have symptomatic recurrence requiring additional surgical intervention. Revision surgery is technically demanding and may be associated with a higher rate of morbidity and poor patient-reported outcomes.
