Aim The study aimed to evaluate the impact of incorporating microhydroxyapatite on the microhardness of three different types of glass ionomer cement. Methodology A total of 120 disc-shaped specimens (7 mm in diameter and 3 mm in height) were prepared for the study, divided into three groups, each containing four subgroups of 10 samples. The materials tested included Zirconomer, conventional glass ionomer cement (CGIC), and resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC), with the addition of microhydroxyapatite in varying concentrations of 0, 5, 15, and 25 wt%.

Background: A posterior tooth's occlusal surfaces and the proximal surface can be restored by using an inlay, which is an intra-crown cast reconstruction without affecting the cusps of the tooth. When an inlay is prepared using an indirect approach, issues with traditional filling approaches, including poor morphology of the occlusal aspect or proximal aspect, inadequate resistance to wear, or subpar mechanical qualities of the directly inserted filler substance, are overcome.

Aim: The current study was conducted in order to compare and assess the resistance to fracture of dental materials used in the preparation of inlay restorations indirectly, like composite restorations prepared by laboratories indirectly, inlays formed indirectly of monolithic translucent ceramic derived from zirconia, and inlays formed indirectly of traditional monolithic ceramic derived from zirconia.

Massive cystic lesions involving a mandible always present a diagnostic and treatment challenge. Unicystic ameloblastoma (UA) is a variant of ameloblastoma encompassing about 6% of ameloblastomas. They represent cystic lesions that reveal clinical and radiographic features of a cyst, but the histopathological features demonstrate a typical ameloblastomatous epithelium lining the cyst.

Introduction: Patients suffering temporomandibular joint internal disc derangement (IDD) ignore appointments after the first examination or after the first or second sessions of initial treatment. The dropout rate for these patients varies from 36% to 78% as per literature. Unfortunately, very few studies have investigated the dropout rate of these patients.

Mucormycosis is an emerging fungal infection which has exceptionally high mortality rates in immunocompromised patients and remains a life-threatening infection in uncontrolled diabetics. The reported cases in literature may be less in number due to its frequent misdiagnosis. Imaging techniques in the early stages are usually nondiagnostic and cytological smears are not very reliable, thus, the gold standard for definitive diagnosis remains with the histopathological examination.

Morphometric analysis of the apical foramina in extracted human teeth.

Folia Morphol (Warsz)

March 2022

Department of Preventive Dental Science, College of Dentistry, Majmaah University, Al-Majmaah, Saudi Arabia.

Background: The aim of the study was to analyse the morphology of the apical foramen in permanent maxillary and mandibular human teeth.

Materials And Methods: The anatomic parameters include shapes (rounded, oval, uneven, flat and semilunar) and location (centre, buccal/labial, lingual/palatal, mesial, and distal) of the apical foramina was evaluated. The shapes and locations of apical foramen were analysed based on tooth type (central incisor, lateral incisor, canine, premolars, and molars) arch type (maxillary and mandibular), and position (anterior and posterior).

Dental age estimation methods in adult dentitions: An overview.

J Forensic Dent Sci

January 2020

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Rishiraj College of Dental Sciences, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Age estimation is one of the essential factors in human identification. Teeth bestowed with features such as hardness and resilience to external factors such as chemicals, putrefaction, and fire explosions serve as a durable source in age estimation. Concurrently, they present with peculiar and comparable features of age-associated regressive changes along with dental procedures, which make them a mirror reflection of age changes from cradle to the grave of an individual.

When endodontically diagnosing and evaluating the morphology and anatomy of roots and root canals, especially in multirooted teeth, clinicians must exercise extremely keen vision and give careful attention to minute details. Fundamental knowledge of the most common anatomic characteristics and the possible variations of these characteristics is necessary to provide successful endodontic therapy. While all mandibular molars have significant variations in roots and root canal configuration, mandibular second molars perhaps present the biggest challenge.

Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome: Diagnosis and Management.

Kathmandu Univ Med J (KUMJ)

November 2017

Department of Prosthodontics, Geetanjali Dental and Research Institute, Geetanjali University, Udaipur, India.

Superior mesenteric artery syndrome is a life-threatening rare acquired upper gastrointestinal disorder due to mechanical compression of third part of duodenum by the acute angulation of Superior mesenteric artery, leading to obstruction. Acute loss of intervening mesenteric fat as a result of a variety of debilitating conditions is believed to be the etiologic factor causing the reduced aortomesenteric angle. Abdominal CT angiography showed the dilatation of second part of duodenum and vascular compression of the proximal third part of the duodenum between the aorta and superior mesenteric artery.

Resurrecting an unsalvageable lower incisor with a mono-block approach.

J Conserv Dent

October 2015

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal University, Mangalore, Karnataka, India.

Contemporary techniques, as well as the availability of bioactive and adhesive materials in endodontics, have helped revivifying teeth that were deemed hopeless. These newer materials and techniques would enable the clinician: (a) to predictably stop microbial activity (b) to achieve a total corono-apical fluid tight seal and (c) to strengthen mutilated teeth by obtaining intra-radicular reinforcement through mono-block effect. This case report demonstrates the successful treatment of a mutilated anterior tooth with the use of bioactive and adhesive materials to obtain a total seal and mono-block effect.
