Objectives: Chemokines are inflammatory mediators directly involved in immunological mechanisms that mediate alloimmune responses; recently, gene expression analysis studies have aroused great interest in the field of transplantation. We aimed to evaluate the predictive role of chemokine gene expression in rejection in renal transplant patients.

Materials And Methods: Our study included 91 patients who underwent living-related renal transplant.

Article Synopsis
  • * Conducted over three years, the study included elderly patients with moderate to severe aortic stenosis, evaluating their demographics, hemodynamics, and outcomes after surgery under low-dose spinal anesthesia.
  • * The results indicated a notable mortality rate of 8.9% at 30 days and 24.4% at 180 days, but the procedure was generally safe, with low complication rates and quick onset of nerve block, suggesting this anesthesia approach is viable for such high-risk patients.

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Istinye University, Maltepe Mah., Edirne Cırpıcı Yolu, No.9 Zeytinburnu, 34010, Istanbul, Turkey.

Thoracic incisions are very painful and complicated incisions. Many analgesic drugs including opioids are used to relieve pain in patients. We hypothesized that early mobilization and patient-centered strategy after lung resection reduce the incidence of perioperative complications and postoperative pain.

Purpose: Recent studies indicate that circulating micro RNAs (miRNAs) are novel class of non-invasive biomarkers with diagnostic and prognostic information. We evaluated the miRNA expressions in bladder cancer (BC) and their associations with disease diagnosis.

Methods: We profiled the expressions of 379 miRNAs in the plasma samples from patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) (n = 34) and non-malignant urological diseases as a control group (n = 32).

Background: Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) is an autoimmune disease and the most common cause of hypothyroidism. The widespread lymphocyte infiltration in the thyroid gland and intolerance of the body against its thyroid antigens leads to the destruction of thyroid cells and impaired thyroid function. Granulysin (GNLY) is a cytolytic antimicrobial peptide that has been associated with a wide range of diseases such as various infections, cancer, transplantation, and skin problems.

Study Objective: To evaluate the effects of physiological dose 17 beta-estradiol (E) replacement on low bone mineral density (BMD) and compare the results of oral and transdermal (TD) E administration in adolescents and young women with hypogonadism DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients aged 15 to 24 years who were diagnosed with hypogonadism, who had begun receiving oral or TD E replacement, and whose initial dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scan detected a lumbar spine BMD Z-score of -1 or lower between 2014 and 2018. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to the E route of administration as those who received 2 mg orally (Group 1) and 0.1 mg TD (Group 2).

There is a lack of evidence regarding the short-term predictive value of serum albumin to creatinine ratio (sACR) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). This study aims to investigate the relationship between sACR and short-term outcomes in these patients. We retrospectively enrolled 3057 patients with STEMI who underwent primary percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) (median age was 58 years, and 74.

Background: One of the reasons for unsuccessful replantation is recipient site problems. In cases where proximal stump status cannot be predicted exactly, reamputation may be required depending on the result of infection and tissue necrosis. The ectopic banking method has been defined for this type of injury.

Background: With the development of microsurgical techniques, the replantation survival rate has increased, but in some cases, revision surgery is required. Although there are many studies on replantation survival rate, studies on revision surgery are limited. In this study, we evaluated replantation patients requiring revision surgery in terms of amputation level, injury type, and amputation type (single-multiple).

The Effect of Antioxidant Agents on Cisplatin-Induced Laryngeal Histological Alterations in Rats.

J Med Food

February 2021

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, İstanbul Faculty of Medicine, İstanbul University, İstanbul, Turkey.

The larynx-related adverse effects that depend on cisplatin decrease patient comfort and many antioxidants have been used to eliminate these side effects. We aimed to identify the laryngeal mucosal changes imposed by cisplatin and investigated whether antioxidants, and their healing effects on these changes, may help reduce laryngeal complications in patients resulting from adverse effects in the larynx. A rat model was designed to evaluate the effects of cisplatin on the larynx and the protective role of antioxidants.
